I don't know how long this price will last, but at a buck twenty-nine, it's a screaming deal. Shipping is 300 percent of the price on the first one, so buy a bunch.

I don't know how long this price will last, but at a buck twenty-nine, it's a screaming deal. Shipping is 300 percent of the price on the first one, so buy a bunch.

Anyway, on one hand the unlocking mechanism is somewhat dangerous, requiring you to put your hand between the knife and the clasp. On the other, this is a knife, so some sharpness is to be expected. The checked Zytek-like handle is solid but could use sharper detail; it provides only OK grip. The clip a nice compromise between tension and the ability actually to use it.

The drop-point blade comes with average sharpness, but the steel is relatively soft and takes an edge well. The hinge is also the clip attachment and is an Allen screw, potentially very handy, although you'd want to check for looseness every now and then. If you were really ambitious, it makes it super-easy to replace the handle for something a little more grippy.

Ultra light weight, very handy. Perfect backup for boating, hunting, for an emergency toolkit. Nice everyday pocketknife for our country types, or where you might not want to risk damaging/losing your good Buck folder.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent knife, July 27, 2010

This is your typical decent, inexpensive whittling knife, I'd say. I managed to accidentally bend the tip, about a year ago, I believe by dropping, throwing, or striking it point-first against a stone. With effort, I sharpened that bent portion of the blade off, causing the tip to be somewhat less pointed, and shorter, but still quite workable. This is a good knife for the reasonable price. I have another or two I like better, but that's me, mainly, and this is a good choice, if you're going for a simple knife. It will stay closed, and lock open, well.

Love this knife, has great quality and durability, this is not my first maxam knife, this is my fourth, had another one just like it and it really took a beating, finally I lost it and that's the reason for replacing it with an exact model, I also like the fact that it is just the right size for everyday handling, not to big, not too small, not to mention it comes with a clip to fasten it to your pocket which comes in really handy, another thing is that it is slim enough not make such a big bulge in your pocket which is nice, and like I said, it is very sturdy and very sharp as well, love it. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a durable and practical multi-use knife for every day use.

The Maxam lockback is a good all around carry knife, with a 420 Surgical Steel Blade that is good steel. This is a good knife for every day normal use.

2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, September 27, 2011

This review is from: Maxam® Lockback Pocket Knife with 420 Surgical Stainless Steel Honed Blade and Durable LeymarTM Handle (Misc.)
I bought this knife out of curiosity and had some credit that would make shipping free. I have to say that you indeed get what you pay for - a $00.01 knife that performs just as the price suggests. A little piece of advice - pay the extra money for a higher quality knife. This is only good as a "last ditch" type of knife, in my opinion, because the only task this knife is capable of doing (probably only once) is stabbing something. I've tested the lock back mechanism and nearly cut my finger off (good thing the blade comes pretty dull). Anyhow, I think I've made my point (sorry, no pun intended).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little knife, January 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maxam® Lockback Pocket Knife with 420 Surgical Stainless Steel Honed Blade and Durable LeymarTM Handle (Misc.)
I'm not a knife collector nor do I know a lot about knives. And the only knives I had before buying this knife were kitchen knives to cut food. I do a lot of online shopping, especially from Amazon.com, and because of that I get a lot of packages delivered. So I wanted a small knife to help me open those packages so I bought this Maxam knife. So far it's been great. It's nice and sharp and it has kept its sharpness after many uses and I haven't had to sharpen it yet. It's very easy to open and close and it's just the right size - not too big and not too small. The stainless steel and the handle are great quality and I feel the knife will last a long time. This knife also comes with a metal clip so you can attach it easily to your belt. I'm very impressed with this knife. What made this purchase even better was the fact that I bought it at a really great price. I'm sure I'll find other uses for this knife around the house.
