Finally... a book on understanding spectator sports written for women that will make them as knowledgeable on the major spectator sports as any of their couch potato husbands or boyfriends. A treasure trove of information on the four major sports (baseball, basketball, football, and hockey) that keep men glued to their television sets and paying top dollar for tickets, Men Are From Locker Rooms, Women Are From Luxury Boxes -- A Woman's Survival Guide to Understanding Spectator Sports has everything today's stronger sex needs to be able to keep up with their male counterparts.

Men Are From Locker Rooms is loaded with illustrations and all the information a woman needs to know about the rules of the games to how they're played. Curious expressions and phrases so dear to the hearts of the "old boys" network are hilariously explained. A unique alternative to other books on the subject, Men Are From Locker Rooms, Women Are From Luxury Boxes takes a humorous look inside a man's world as seen from a woman's perspective, while teaching the fundamentals necessary to watch, understand, and become full-fledged fans of the games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, witty, & a surprisingly fun way to learn sports!, May 19, 1999

I finally found it: a book that teaches as well as entertains. I've been searching for a way to learn more about sports, so I can actually participate in conversations without seeming ignorant. Ms. Selwitz really educated me without beating me over the head with technicalities, and suddenly my interest in sports has skyrocketed. Bravo to Ms. Selwitz for reaching out to those of us who have been waiting a long time for something like this. A great read, an informative and fact-filled book, laden with good humor and wit -- a surefire way to please everyone. I highly recommend it! A+!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I thought this book is both funny and informative., June 7, 1999

Every red-blooded American male should get this for his girl. It's written in a unintelligible language (in which females communicate amongst themselves), and should help keep the peace during playoff season. Very well done.
