A really worthwhile new Connie book,
By
This review is from: Lockheed Constellation (Classic Airliners) (Paperback)
Although dozens (maybe scores or even hundreds)of books have been written about this most beautiful of propliners, this is a very worthy addition and one which all propliner buffs should buy.The book is very well written, gives the full Connie story and is profusely illustrated with dozens of colour photos, most of which date from the 1940s and 1950s and a very large number of which I had never seen before. Also, there is a full production list of Connies, with their fates-an invaluable reference source. I did wonder, before buying this book, if I really needed yet another book about even so beautiful an aircraft, but by the time I finished reading this, I knew I had made a very worthwhile purchase-strongly recommended.

This review is from: Lockheed Constellation (Classic Airliners) (Paperback)
If you're a fan of the Lockheed Constellation, this is a great first book to get...and may be the only book on the subject that you'll need. The layout is well designed and logically follows the development and use of this beautiful airplane. The thing that pushed this book over the top is it's attention to detail, wonderful wealth of vintage photographs (B&W and color) on high quality paper, and supplemental data...such as tables that show information regarding every Constellation built, it's operator, and it's eventual fate. Also included are tables showing accidents/incidents and a table showing surviving airframes (as of 2001). All of these things require true research, making this book all the more valuable to Constellation fans.I purchased this book simultaneously with the Airliner Tech Constellation book (by Germain). When comparing the two, I can whole heartedly recommend the Winchester book over the Germain volume. The small extra price goes a long way towards delivering a satisfying volume that is sure to please any Connie nut.

An excellent look at the Lockheed Constellation,

This review is from: Lockheed Constellation (Classic Airliners) (Paperback)
The Airlife's Classic Airliner series of books cover individual commercial aircraft types in an interesting, in-depth manner. Each volume of this British series covers a unique commercial aircraft type from its design, production, entry into service, its usage by airlines, and in some cases eventual demise. Each volume features plenty of color and black and white photographs of the subject aircraft along with a complete construction list (accurate to date of publication for aircraft types still being built). Volume 2 covers the Lockheed Constellation series of aircraft ... including most, if not all of the many derivatives and provides an interesting look at the genesis of this long-range inter-continental piston airliner.
