Book Description

May 1, 1999 0942612426 978-0942612424
Lockheed had an early lock on military jet trainer production in the United States with its very successful two-seat derivative of the P-80/F-80 Shooting Star, the T-33A/TV-2. As good as the T-Bird was, Lockheed believed a much more capable trainer could be developed from the basic T-33 design. As a private venture, under the guidance of Kelly Johnson, Lockheed sought to improve the instructor's visibility and the aircraft's low speed handling characteristics. These changes, along with a redesigned and strengthened landing gear, would allow the aircraft to be considered for a carrier trainer.

4.0 out of 5 stars An average Naval Fighters offering..., September 13, 2009

This review is from: Lockheed T2V/T-1A Seastar (Consign) (Naval Fighters) (Paperback)
...which means very good indeed.

This is an 8-1/2" x 11", 72 page, stapled card cover. Color is restricted to the front and rear covers.

The Lockheed T2V Seastar was the last variation on the P-80/T-33/F-94 family. Author/publisher Steve Ginter gives his standard adequate text, extensive photographic coverage. There are also numerous contemporary technical manual illustrations reproduced.

Since the squadron service of this aircraft was brief and not particularly widespread Ginter tries to show a photo of each individual aircraft. Although most of the photos are portrait shots there are a number of detailed closeups. The book closes out with the normal review of plastic model kits.

All in all this 1999 Naval Fighters doesn't really get by blood pumping but that's probably more the subject than the book itself. If you happen to be modelling this subject or have a special interest in it this book won't disappoint.
