Book Description

January 6, 2005 Motorbooks Classic
This unprecedented examination of the development of Lockheed's stealth program explains in depth how Skunkworks designers and engineers minimize and even eliminate radar, thermal, and acoustic signatures in the U-2, F-117, F-22, and X-35. Illustrated with photos from the company's archives and private collections, Sweetman gives current service and battle records of these planes, and describes the technologies and design elements that help these aircraft avoid detection.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book on the background of stealth airplanes, June 11, 2006

For those who are interested in stealth airplanes I think this is a great little book. Lots of great pictures and a good brief history of the development of stealth airplanes at Lockheed. Its not really about any one airplane so if you wanted something specifc, you would probably be better off trying to buy an old copy of World Airpower Journal with an article written by Sweetman on one of the airplanes. If you wanted alot of info on the 117 or B-2, the book Black Jets is very good. And if you wanted more detail about the Skunk Works, check out the book by Ben Rich. Thats a fun read as well.

An excellent up-to-date history of Lockheed's (and others) contributions to the art and science of stealth airplanes, including both the F-22 and F-35. This book complements Ben Rich's "Skunk Works."
