5.0 out of 5 stars Sophomore effort new and different
This is the second album from the California band, and it took me a while to get used to it. I expected it to be more like the group's earlier stuff, but it ain't. The horns are gone and their is a harder more punk feel to the music. Once again, the lyrics focus on bad relationships, but the more I listened to it, the more I realized that the songs are more...

3.0 out of 5 stars You'll get tired of this cd...
Although DHC are extremely talented musicians, I wouldn't buy any more of their cd's. I barrowed Lockjaw from a friend and loved it but when I bought it myself it became annoying and tiresome. Every now and again I pull it out to listen to, but halfway through the second song I have to take it out again. They're good but the songs song alike...number 5 and 11 are...

This is the second album from the California band, and it took me a while to get used to it. I expected it to be more like the group's earlier stuff, but it ain't. The horns are gone and their is a harder more punk feel to the music. Once again, the lyrics focus on bad relationships, but the more I listened to it, the more I realized that the songs are more thought out and the music really fits the subject matter. My favorites are Buried Alive, Go, Sticky, and Enough. A lot of people complain that this isn't ska anymore, but who cares. Whatever it is, it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a shocker..., July 14, 2004

I found this CD in a bunch of burned CDs a friend was throwing away. It was the first one I picked up, and I let her keep the rest. After I found out who exactly I was listening to I rushed to buy the real CD. The entire Lockjaw album is upbeat and catchy, and is one you can listen to over and over. The harmonies are fun, and the band builds a solid backbone behind the girly duo. Pay special attention to the song GO- it's my personal favorite, and a good starting point for anyone looking to love DHC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Old Record, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Lockjaw (Audio CD)
This album is not for everyone, but if you really enjoy ska it's great. The singer has a higher-pitched voice and some of the songs have drug content, which could be a down-side, it's up to you, but if you want something peppy to listen to, this is just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooooooo good, July 7, 1998

This review is from: Lockjaw (Audio CD)
This album could possibly be Dance Hall Crashers at their best! Despite the complete loss of horns, the c.d. is still a treat for any ska fan. Karina and Elyse, the vocalists, are brilliant on this record. I have seriously listened to Lockjaw a hundred times and still love it! Hopefully, their release of *Shelley* as a single will bring them some much deserved radio play. As long as they don't change their unique sound, if they gain fame, it's fine with me! That way, they can make a living doing something they love, and produce more great DHC tunes!

5.0 out of 5 stars um.......ya, October 11, 2004
This review is from: Lockjaw (Audio CD)
So I have been listening to the dance hall crashers since I was like 14 which was like 9-10 years ago. I bought this cd a a local record shop back then and I fell in love. I haven't listened to them for a few years even though I still have all of their cds, but I thought it would be important to share that this band absolutely is cool. The ladies are beautiful, and in concert they rock. So if any teeny bopper wanna be punk jerk decides that he or she should think otherwise than you are not punk...you are not ska punk...and you should not give advice to any more amazon users. thank you.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good.., March 26, 2000
This review is from: Lockjaw (Audio CD)
This was the first DHC cd I bought and I think that overall, it's pretty good. Although most of the songs sort of have the same sound, they're all really fun to listen to. However, DHC's other cds are also fun to listen to and more unique.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun, energetic music, March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lockjaw (Audio CD)
This music isn't meant to be brilliant, complex, or thought-inspiring. It's meant to make you bounce up and down and shriek along deliriously at the top of your lungs. In that goal, it succeeds beautifully. Though DHC is for the most part derivative, their dueling female vocalists add a touch of very welcome, and very well-crafted, innovation.

Lockjaw is one of those albums you can listen to from first to last track without hitting the fast-forward button. That's mostly because the songs all use the same formula - snide lyrics, catchy riffing, some ska rhythm during the verses, and the standout vocals - and boy, does the formula work. If you sit still while listening to this album, there may be something wrong with you. Best track for me is Enough. Singing along has never been so fun.

Also, I can not recommend seeing this band live enough. And if you're female, claw your way on stage to sing along with He Wants Me Back, one of the most affirming feminist anthems ever crafted!
