combination setting can be an issue, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Lockmed SMALL Secured Lock Box - Safeguard Prescription Medications - Storage - External Dimensions: 8 X 6 X 4 Inches (Health and Beauty)
The lockmed storage box is very nicely made. It has a three wheel combination lock.
You can change the combination from the factory setting. I Googled this product to discover any issues. A significant number of buyers have difficulty setting the lock to the custom numbers. If you forget the combination, that is apparently not a solvable problem. I wanted to set the combination to my own secret code.
Here is where I sort of went wrong. When the box lid is open and you are turning the wheels to the combination you desire, you are probably going to look down at the three wheels. It is the natural thing to do. There is a possibility that you will set the numbers on the wheels to be at the top position, rather than the middle position. I did that. Figuring that I am not all that stupid, the directions are clear enough, I wondered why I could not gain entry to the box.
I knew the combination. I was able to turn the wheels so that the combination appeared in the top most row (against the lid). That did it. If you have locked yourself out of one of these types of locks, simply give this a try.
It is a good product and should keep the children out of the medicine. Well worth the investment for peace of mind.

All in all, just so-so, December 12, 2010
This review is from: Lockmed SMALL Secured Lock Box - Safeguard Prescription Medications - Storage - External Dimensions: 8 X 6 X 4 Inches (Health and Beauty)
Pros: Good looking, rubber feet on bottom, box itself is reasonably well built, has a carrying handle, 1 year warranty.
Cons: Low quality lock, handle mounts are loose, badge is crooked, no pockets
This box is just a good old fashioned utilitarian kind of box. Its not fancy, but it does the job. This box is sturdier than I had expected. Its got a good weight without being too heavy. I think its more sturdy than a Vaultz pencil box, but not as sturdy as a cash lock box.
If you get fussy you will start to notice a few flaws: the medical badge (the white + sign in a red background) has been glued on crooked. The handle mounts are loose and jiggle a little; the rivets are loose. I am pretty sure I am going to return this box for that reason. It has a 1 year warranty.
It does have low profile rubber feet on the bottom.
The tumblers on the lock are difficult to turn, they bind and stick (as one would expect from a cheap lock). When you push the latch into the lock to close it, you have to use quite a bit of force; so much so that the wall of the box flexes a little. Either the wall needs to be stronger or it needs a better quality smoother operating lock. The lock takes up a tiny bit of space inside the box; there is a bulge in the wall inside the box right behind the lock.
I don't want to have to worry about losing a key, so I like the idea of a combo lock. The problem with this type of lock is that after you enter the combination and open the latch, you have to remember to give the tumblers a little random spin, otherwise you leave your combination number there for all too see.
The inside of this box is just an empty box. It is lined with a matte black velvety material, just as you would expect for this type of thing. There are no dividers or pockets. This is not a complaint. For my purposes a divider would get in the way. It might have been nice to have a pocket in the roof of the box or along one of the edges though.
All in all, this box is just so-so.

Not very secure, September 1, 2010
This review is from: Lockmed SMALL Secured Lock Box - Safeguard Prescription Medications - Storage - External Dimensions: 8 X 6 X 4 Inches (Health and Beauty)
About the only things this product is good for is securing your medications from small children, and keeping honest people honest. I mean, 30 seconds with a screw driver and you're in. And while I found the directions for changing the combination easy to follow, and it worked just as described, the individual numbered wheels are EXTREMELY difficult to turn. They are so hard to turn, I honestly don't think an elderly person could turn them. Overall, a great idea, just cheaply made.
