This review is from: Locks and Cream Cheese (Paperback)
The story opens with the death of the Marche House mansion caretaker during the theft of a multi-million dollar painting. On the case is Paco LeSoto, retired Baltimore police detective who now works part-time in the local police department in Black Rain Corners, Maryland, where he now lives. Located on Chesapeake Bay, the small town hosts a number of wealthy inhabitants.
When further thefts and murders take place, Paco steps up the pace of the investigation that includes an intriguing variety of suspects. What Paco does not anticipate is his growing attraction to Molly, the housekeeper/cook who works for psychoanalyst Dr. Avi Kepple. Kepple is a founding member of the town's Historical Society. He also finds himself the victim of the daring theft of a jeweled key, and the mysterious locked-room death of his nephew who was visiting at the time. Locks & Cream Cheese is the first Paco and Molly mystery written by Rosemary and Larry Mild. Having read the second and third books in the series prior to this first offering, I can see how the relationship between Paco and Molly grows in the later books. There is only a hint of the future in this book. The Mild's have written an intriguing mystery with a quirky cast of characters. As the story unfolds, the reader may tire of the slower pace of this book. Later books correct the error and are a delight to read. Locks & Cream Cheese lays out a worthy beginning to a series that continues to improve book by book. Locks and Cream Cheese

LOCKS AND CREAM CHEESE is one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. As comfortably entertaining as the television series, "Murder She Wrote," LOCKS weaves an intriguing story with engaging characters that draw you in and hold you until the last page is turned. A must-read for mystery lovers and mainstream readers alike!

Rosemary and Larry Mild take the reader through an enjoyable, mindbending potboiler of a mystery. The characters are extremely vivid and likeable, and the classic locked-door corpse story finds a totally new twist.
