Book Description

May 1, 1982
Used by OSS operatives behind enemy lines during World War II, this manual was expanded and is still used to train CIA Technical Services Division personnel--with which Watergate conspirators were associated. A revelation of CIA activities, this unusual manual will be of tremendous interest to historians, collectors and spy buffs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Murky Photos, Dated Text, February 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Locks, Picks, And Clicks (Paperback)
This WWII era book might still have been useful as a how-to book if the photos and diagrams had been properly reproduced. Unfortunately, text referring to photos that are rectangles of darkness is of limited use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting historical info, June 6, 2000

This review is from: Locks, Picks, And Clicks (Paperback)
Some of the pictures are photos (presumably reproduced from the original OSS manual), and they are hard to make out. But, it's the line drawings that have the real value, and they are printed clearly. The drawings show the inner workings of standard lock types better than other books I've seen. The text is interesting from a historical viewpoint - alludes to fears at that time of Nazi spies, and the efforts spent to identify them.
