Unbelievable! A 15 year old girl did this? I have never heard anything like this before. It is great!

I stumbled on Taimane by happy accident on YouTube recently. Prior reviews here of this CD commending her substantial musical abilities, both technically and creatively on the ukulele are right on. But this is a review of the CD. Compared to Taimane's presence on YouTube, the CD is disappointing as a showcase of her prowess on the ukulele - it is nearly absent here; either it is an afterthought to her singing, which is not (yet) remarkable (e.g., "Carol of the Bells"), or it is just absent (e.g., "Don't Know Why" - pleasant enough easy-listening background music). Her considerable and breathtaking musicality is present here primarily in her two hits, "Tico Tico", and Beethoven's "For Elise" which she transforms beautifully by hurling it into the 21st century.

So - 5 stars for Taimane's talent and potential, but 2 stars for this CD. I hope that the future brings another Taimane CD that helps to change the popular perception of the ukulele as a toy guitar to a serious and stunning musical instrument. Hear for instance, what guitarist Chet Atkins can make out of a Bourre by J.S. Bach; get the thrill of any good guitarist playing "Leyenda" by Albeniz. Etc, etc. There's a world of musical literature that Taimane can transform into her unique style and so put the ukulele on the musical map - she can be competitive with the best. I will stay tuned and hope for the happy event.

Great ukulele. Nice voice. Great future. I saw her on TV, at Don Ho's memorial srvice. I was blown away. Not enough material on the CD and the singing is for young girls. The ukulele playing is a gift from God!

I love seeing and hearing someone who is truly gifted. That's exactly how I felt after watching Taimane playing in Waikiki. Her finger-picking is incredible. She never misses a note. I have watched hundreds of musicians up close and have examined their personal technique and Taimane is as good as they come. You will be hearing about this girl for the next 30 years or more. Buy the album, you won't be disappointed and it will someday be a collector's item as her first debut cd.

My Husband Herb and I had rare treat when we decided to see the Don Ho Show in Waikiki at The Beachcomber Hotel last week!! Aside from hearing Don belt out "Tiny Bubbles", one of the features of the show was Don Ho allowing others with talent the opportunity to get up on stage and perform for the audience. Taimane performed and the crowd absolutely loved her. She has a sound that is unique, vibrant and destined to be a classic! It is so refreshing to see a young person with such a passion for what she does....and trust me, she does it impeccably!!! We were first in line to purchase her CD after the show!!!!! Thank you Don Ho for presenting this amazing new talent to your fans!!!!!! We will always love you!

I LOVE this artist's playing, she's a TRUE virtuoso on the Ukelele. Maybe even more than a virtuoso, a prodigy. But the album is hindered by poor song selection, campy arrangement, and an overall poor flow of songs. I wanted to love this for many many reasons, but it's now resigned to "special purpose" use, for effect, for camp, or just to show off that I know of a badass Uke player. Too bad! I hope this artist has newer material and finds her voice with some honest to goodness great original material. She deserves it!

Her ukulele skills are awesome on the cd. The only minus is the singing; her vocals accompanied by others kinda ruins some of the songs...sounds to generic.
