5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent product!
Once properly seasoned -- a simple task given the easy instructions -- this griddle is great! I'm a cast-iron cookware convert after using this griddle and a frying pan or two from Lodge. I own and use 3 other Lodge cast iron pans which are excellent. I bought this one to cook bacon, eggs and pancakes, thinking the square shape would be perfect. It isn't. The corners of the pan never heat up to the temperature of the center, even after preheating for as much as 15 minutes. A big disappointment from a company I trusted.

We have a number of All-Clad pans, but I'll reach for this one first for many cooking tasks: it's pretty much indestructable, heats very evenly, and cleans up remarkably fast. Caveats: you have to dry it immediately after washing, or it'll rust. You can't toss it in the dishwasher, either. But it cleans very easily, so no big loss there. Also, it's heavy (being cast iron after all), so flipping pancakes with a flick of the wrist will require a very strong wrist.

All told, an excellent product from an excellent line. Inexpensive, to boot.

Properly seasoned and cared for this griddle will last. It takes a couple of uses and seasonings to get this to perfection. It is worth it. I keep this close by. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, and grilled sandwiches can all be cooked using this griddle. As soon as you are finished wipe it down and dry. You may want to coat it with a light amount of oil. Store. If the griddle sticks reseason. This will last lifetimes. My girls were fighting one evening as to who was getting what in my cast iron cookware. I am buying them their own! Of course mom will be expected to season it first. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect!, January 6, 2004

This griddle seasoned up without any trouble at all, and consistently produces excellent eggs and pancakes. The griddle heats evenly, but because of its size needs a large burner to operate effectively. That's the only caveat, and I don't consider it a problem. It's just that, if you're going to cover it literally corner-to-corner, you need a large burner (or just do your bacon in the oven).

I love cast iron and have pans handed down to me from my grandmother. But this square pan tops them. No sides easy access. It cooks a steak great. I have given up my George.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful griddle., August 3, 2003

I own several cast iron utensils but I probably use this one the most. It has a semi permanent place on my stove where it
is used most frequently for bacon, sausage or browning meats
especially chicken for casseroles. I also use it outside for blackened fish for which it is superb. It needs a little more
seasoning because it still sticks at times. My mother has one that is 50 years old that is the most perfect of pans. Nothing cooks like cast iron.

3.0 out of 5 stars pre-heating, October 28, 2005
This review is from: Lodge 12-Inch Square Breakfast Griddle with Assist Handle (Kitchen)
Another reviewer of Lodge grill/griddle pans suggested pre-heating the pan in a cold oven at 500 degrees before placing it on the burner. Since I've also had problems with cast iron grill/griddle pans heating uneavenly, I'm tempted to try that, but something in my mind tells me that is defeating the purpose. But I'll try that a couple of times and see if it works.

After seasoning this griddle, I have found that it quickly became one of my favorite cooking pieces. For breakfast, french toast or pancakes, bacon and sausage...griddle works like a dream. For lunch, I picked up the griddle again and made some grilled cheese sandwiches and Tuna melts. For dinner...the grill was used again, a steak for hubby, cheeseburgers for me, oh and that 8 year old...he wanted hot dogs. No problem here, the grill make cooking quick and easy.
I just love it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Label is a pain, December 25, 2002

I gave this to my husband for Christmas -- the label was stuck to the top with that glue that stretches -- after 20 minutes of shredding the instructions, using a nylon scraper, and adding Goo Gone to break down the glue it finally came off but left a residue.

Otherwise the product is heavy duty and we are anxious to use it. Good quality!
