5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary
If you use cast iron cookware, you should buy several of these. They are the only thing that I've found that works well when trying to scrub this kind of cookware. I have a Lodge frying pan and a Lodge grill (the kind that goes over two burners). The frying pan will feel greasy until I go over with the brush. By the way, I was told not to use soap to clean my cast...

I have owned 3 of these brushes in the past month. I wash all wood by hand, dry immediately and never allow the wood to sit in water. I have owned 3 of these brushes in the past month. I wash all wood by hand, dry immediately and never allow the wood to sit in water. Still, the wood is a cheap brittle wood which soaks up water, expands and contracts and cracks--then the bristles fall out. One came cracked and the other two cracked after just a few uses. I went back to using my Rubbermaid brush designed similarly but with a plastic handle. I have owned other Rubbermaid brushes which have lasted 10 years so far. I have contacted the Lodge company about this brush. Lodge is a great company with EXCELLENT products. This product could lead some to a negative impression if they are not familiar with the usual outstanding quality of Lodge. I'm just surprised--almost stunned by how awful this brush is!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a cheap, generic brush, December 14, 2005

After buying this brush, I realized that I could find the same thing without the Lodge label at Walmart for about $1.50. In fact, I've seen the non-branded version of this brush at a lot of places.

This is just a generic brush. There is nothing special about it and Lodge just sourced it from whatever Chinese company makes the thing and put its logo on it.

If you want to get it as a gift to accompany a Lodge cast iron cookware piece (which are great btw), then that's fine. However, I wouldn't buy it if you are just looking for a brush to clean your cast iron pans because there's nothing special about it and it's twice the cost of something equivalent.

BTW, the bristles turn dark with repeated use but this is true for all brushes used to clean cast iron - I think it's something to do with the grease. Therefore, you can't really use the brush for anything else other than cleaning cast iron so keep that in mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nylon scrubber with the LODGE name on it, January 16, 2006

It does okay. Its a scrubber brush with nylon brsitles. Cleans as well as any other nylon scrubber. I would suggest going to your local supermarket and buying whatever they have there. Any nylon scrubber will wear out over time. Its not a bad product, just not anything special.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Head Is Cracked and Falls Off, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Lodge Cast Iron Scrubber Brush (Kitchen)
I thought that Lodge would manufacture the perfect cleaning utensil for their cast iron pots and pans. I was wrong! It's a cheap wood brush that swells up and cracks. Plus it is designed so poorly, the head keeps falling off of the handle. Yes, definetly buy a brush for your cast iron, it will do the best job. But buy a generic one at the supermarket or Walmart for a lot less money, plus it won't fall apart.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Junk!, January 26, 2007

I have a lot of Lodge cast iron cookware and love it. Unfortunately this brush doesn't live up to Lodge's reputation. I got two- one for the kitchen and one for the camper. After a dozen or so uses each one started to fall apart. Once the handle falls off the first time you might as well throw it away. The head still works for scrubbing but as others have posted you're better off with a $1 all-plastic scrub brush.

If you use cast iron cookware, you should buy several of these. They are the only thing that I've found that works well when trying to scrub this kind of cookware. I have a Lodge frying pan and a Lodge grill (the kind that goes over two burners). The frying pan will feel greasy until I go over with the brush. By the way, I was told not to use soap to clean my cast iron so, I use Kosher salt. Sprinkle it on, use a little water to make it pasty and scrub. The sticky bits of food and grease will come off with just a little scrubbing with this brush. This brush is even more essential to clean the grill pan to get into the grooves and ridges.

It also works extremely well on my Le Creuset grill and grill pan. This scrubber brush works. I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars not needed, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Lodge Cast Iron Scrubber Brush (Kitchen)
All you need to scrub cast iron is cooking oil and salt. Just make a paste, maybe 1 tablespoon salt and a teaspoon of oil and scrub it around with a paper towel, rinse well and dry throughly. It helps to keep it seasoned also. I saw this tip on the Martha Stewart Show years ago and my skillet still looks new.

As soon as we received it the metal ring located on the wooded handle was floating between the handle and the brush. Then on the first use some of the bristles fell out. We immediately returned the brush.

I used my scrubber and it came apart the first use. The metal band that holds the scrubbing brush to the handle just fell out. I put it back together, but it still comes out. I tried to spread the prongs out, but the brush fell out. I guess I'd say "Buyer Beware"

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good buy, October 29, 2007
This review is from: Lodge Cast Iron Scrubber Brush (Kitchen)
Every time I tried to use the brush, the prongs holding the bristled head fell off. I kept trying to fix it or use it, but no luck. Unfortunate.
