Product Description

The "L" Series Dutch Oven is not only excellent for cooking, it is also the ideal vessel to serve meals in. Complimenting the stylish porcelain finish is the graceful "L" shaped stainless steel handle on the lid, providing a generous grip and perfect balance when handling while cooking or when cleaning. It can be used on all stove tops and in ovens, including induction, at temperatures below 500 degrees F. Not to be used in the microwave or on outdoor grills / campfires. Where the lid and pot meet, the visible black edge is a matte enamel undercoat more chip resistant than the primary colors. The white enamel cooking surface is FDA approved. Porcelain enamel eliminates the need to "season" cast iron, creating a non reactive surface perfect for all cooking techniques, as well as marinating, refrigerating or freezing. The corrosion resistant No. 304 stainless steel handle remain cool-touch while cooking on stovetop at moderate heat. 6 Qt, patriot red

Just holds a whole chicken or a small roast with companion vegetables and herbs and simmers them to perfection. Also very pretty red with the elegant, and very well designed handle, which makes it much easier to pick up when hot than the usual knob. Excellent quality!

I've owned the Lodge L series 6 quart dutch oven for about 3 weeks. While I initially was pleased with both it's cooking (browning) performance and quality, its already begun to show its low quality. The lid chipped after its second use. As the lid was not dropped or slammed.. this looks like an enamel bounding issue. The same can be said for the crack in the enamel that has developed on the underside. Other dutch ovens I have owned have not shown this type of fragility so quickly. The edge where the lid and pot meets also rusts easily. Another disappointing flaw that means you have to keep the edge oiled at all times.

The handle is great and I wish all cast iron pots had such a generous loop to grab onto. My wife has weak wrists and loves this feature that make the pot lid easier to handle. She wishes the side handles were as large.

I would not buy this product again if given the chance. There are other cheaper options that are no worse.. and several superior options that are more expensive. I cannot say that in this case you get what you pay for given the mid-point pricing for this product. If you buy American as I do.. buy the standard or signature series lodge dutch oven DO NOT buy the L-series.

everyone should own a dutch oven but why spend over $200. I chose this one because of the flat base.

update: 4 months of use and the base enamel has cracked and chipped. I'll be getting a new one. you get what you pay for. This time buying Le Creuset.

I have no complaints about this purchase. The oven was delivered in good packaging, has no flaws, and does its job perfectly. The enamel coating makes it a breeze to use and keep clean. The handle is functional, and more importantly, metal so I don't have to worry about it breaking from heat like certain other ovens. It's cheaper than le creuset but just as good.

I gave this item as a gift to my husband in June, and it was put into use recently. Significant chipping is occurring after only the fourth use of this product. It is a beautiful looking piece, and I wish I could say the same about it's fabrication. I looked at this piece and thought it would be an economical alternative to the Le Creuset. If I was rating this product on its asthetics, I would give it five stars; however, its beauty cannot make up for its integrity, thus the two star rating.

I loved the blue color and the design. I bought it becuase it is "made in America" and all the history of being made here in the States. WRONG! It is made in China.

I got is for Xmas, and was pleased overall. Used it VERY VERY Carefully. I was very gentle with it (I like my cookware to look as new and pristine as possible). Nevertheless.. it chipped! I first saw chips around the lid rim. Then I started seeing funny "metal flakes" on my glass top stove burner. Yep, the BOTTOM of the pan started to chip and flake off, so that about 1/3 of it is now bare metal.

I contacted Lodge. They so wonderfully, fabulously agreed to REPLACE the pan at no charge! Woo Hoo! They were great and sent me a new one. That is super. However, pan No. 2 also has chipped. Same places.... just a little bit less.

I'll still use it.. I had good results making pot roast, soups, and spaghetti sauce. But I dont like the chipped lid and pan bottom. The booklet that comes with the pan says "this product is highly chip resistant". I say "Bull!". I was extremely kind and gentle to the pan and it still chipped. That really bothers me, however it does a good job for cooking soups, stews, etc.

I purchased this cast iron enameled pot to make stews, baked beans, etc. It does an excellent job of holding the heat and is easy to clean up. Much less expensive than the French pots! This is a great all-purpose pot.

I don't usually write product reviews. And this is probably like the second review I've ever written in my life, but I absolutely had to rave about the Lodge customer service. So awhile back, I was trying to steam something with my Lodge dutch oven on medium heat. I didn't put enough water in and by the time I returned to turn off the heat, all the water had boiled off and the dutch oven had heated on dry heat for about 5-10 min. As a result, the enamel at the bottom of the dutch oven melted slightly. I was really upset with myself as I invested so much in the dutch oven and had planned to use it like forever, since it was supposedly built to last. I also thought that Lodge would not want to replace the dutch oven for me since it was due to my own carelessness that the dutch oven got overheated.

After agonizing over this for a few days, I finally decided that there was no harm in emailing Lodge to see what they can do. Even if they would not replace my dutch oven because it was totally my fault for damaging it, perhaps they could give me a discount for buying a new one. I emailed them over the labor day weekend, thinking that I won't receive a reply in another week since there must be tons of backlog emails they have to deal with. But what do you know, FIRST THING on Tuesday morning at 930am, I received a reply from a Lodge customer service representative asking me to send them the item # and a photo of the damaged portion of my dutch oven. Within 2 hours, they replied and told me they would replace my dutch oven for me FOC!!!!

OK, I still haven't received the replacement dutch oven yet - so I cannot be 100% certain that they have sent me my replacement. But I was totally amazed by the speed and responsiveness of their customer service.
