4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, August 23, 2006

This review is from: Lodge Pro Logic 12-Inch Round Griddle (Kitchen)
This griddle comes preseasoned and is reasonably nonstick out of the box. After a few uses and more seasoning it's become quite nonstick.

While the pan cooks excellent pancakes, eggs, and so on, on my plain, old electric range the edges of the pan do not get hot. This leaves an area about 8" round in the middle where things cook. Bacon was not successful as the ends of the bacon strips didn't cook. I think with a different stove, either with gas (where the hot gas will flow along most of the bottom of the pan) or a more modern electric range with bigger burners, this wouldn't be an issue. The fault is with the low thermal diffusivity of cast iron itself, not with the manufacture.

I am selling mine to a friend with a gas stove and am going to find a smaller square griddle (not nonstick though) instead. I am rating it 4 stars for how well it cooks where it's hot enough.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Had one already, and a friend was so impressed that they wanted one too. No longer made by logic, found it here at amazon, fast shipping, and was using it a week after I ordered it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lodge has a nice griddle, but casting was off, December 19, 2007

This review is from: Lodge Pro Logic 12-Inch Round Griddle (Kitchen)
I purchased this 12" Lodge cast iron skillet from a local retailer. It was already pre seasoned, which was good, but I ended up taking part of it off. I used this griddle with very high expectations, which were not meant.
To start out with, I also had the same problem of the edges not cooking the bacon. I think A 10" griddle would work better for electric ranges as the 12" just seems to be a bit big. The other complaint I had was that it would not sit level on any surface. I could also see where it was heating a small area in the middle of the pan. I put it on my granite counter top and surmised that the Lodge emblem on the bottom was higher than the rest of the pan. It seemed to be a pivot point where it would rock about 1/8 of an inch. Went out to the garage and got out the orbital sander and 80 grit sand paper and started sanding the bottom. I was immediately apparent by the material taken off that this casting was defective and the emblem was higher than the rest of the pan. Since I had the sander out, I flipped it over and took off most of the orange peel surface on the cooking side.
Right now I am in the process of re seasoning it, and it now sits flat on the stove top and on my counter top.
Maybe the whole line was defective as I see Lodge no longer offers the 12" round griddle. I prefer this to the current offering due to the assist handle opposite the main handle.
If you can find one of these griddles, go ahead and buy it. If it cooks uneven you may want to check the bottom of the pan and see if it is rocking on the Lodge Emblem. 5 minutes of your time with some 80 grit sand paper will take care of this small fault!
