5.0 out of 5 stars Can use as an ashtray in a pinch
I love cast iron, and this looks great with my black-and-stainless appliances. It's true it's a bit small for some of the spoons I'd want to rest in it, but I use large spoons.

I was worried about a friend of mine coming for a visit this weekend and not having an ashtray for her (to smoke outside, of course). I certainly didn't want her to have to use my dishes...

3.0 out of 5 stars A LOT SMALLER than expected...
This works for a small spoon but not a spatular or anything as it is too small. Would make a good ash tray though. Still love my lodge frying pan though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can use as an ashtray in a pinch, February 8, 2008

I love cast iron, and this looks great with my black-and-stainless appliances. It's true it's a bit small for some of the spoons I'd want to rest in it, but I use large spoons.

I was worried about a friend of mine coming for a visit this weekend and not having an ashtray for her (to smoke outside, of course). I certainly didn't want her to have to use my dishes for that purpose. Then this came. It's perfect, and I know it'll clean up just fine when she's done with it.

There's nothing like seasoned cast iron in the kitchen. Those who have never owned much cast iron might think you can wash it in soapy water or in the dishwasher, but that ruins the seasoning. If yours has gotten rusty, scour it good with one of those green scouring pads with just water. Next time you bake something in the oven, sit your cast iron in there, too, and let it just bake for a while. Then take it out and, when cool enough to the touch, oil it with vegetable oil, working the oil into it with your fingers, then wipe off any excess. Stick it back into the still-hot oven and leave it there; it will come out black and beautiful, non-stick, and resistant to rusting as long as you dry it well if it gets wet and wipe (or scour) out any food using only water. (Trust me: This will not kill you.) Keep handling it this way, and the more you use it, the more beautiful and easy-care it will be.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute little spoon rest, March 4, 2007
This review is from: Lodge Logic Skillet Spoon Rest (Kitchen)
i got this because my previous spoon rest was a hideous plate that i just decided i couldn't stand looking at any more. it is very cute, and has little spoon slots, making it the perfect shape for a spoon rest.

i have only 2 complaints: surprisingly (my nitpicky complaint that i knew i was getting into) it's a little too small. my stove is fairly large (but not unusually so), and this thing looks pretty silly being so little. i would prefer it to be, say, 4 or 5 inches rather than 3.

**But my bigger complaint is that the bottom for some reason got a little rusty and left rust marks on the stove. i am able to get them up, so no permanent damage to the stove, but the pan is a little worse for the experience. now i will need to put something under it, but what? and, thats a bit of a pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply cute and practical!, February 22, 2007
This review is from: Lodge Logic Skillet Spoon Rest (Kitchen)
I needed spoon rests that wouldn't break when my roomies knocked them off the stove. Something that no matter what, I could scour and make look good again. I found this little gem. It's sized for maybe 1 egg, but is perfect for a spoon rest, change catch, or even hanging on the wall as country kitchen decor. It's cute, practical, and compact (essential in the modern clutter-kitchen). I've bought 4 so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for roasting spices, July 2, 2008

A gem for roasting whole spices and making Indian-style 'tadka' or tempering- heating spices in clarified butter before pouring them over food. Wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot tell you.., March 10, 2011

...if this skillet can whip you up a teeny tiny delicious meal or if it looks nice as a spoon rest. I use it as an ashtray on my mom's patio. She loves it because she can empty the butts by picking up the handle, thus keeping her as distant from my grody cigarettes as she needs to be. I love it because it is heavyweight, not easily breakable, and cigarettes rest nicely on it's grooved edges. Smoking is a bad idea. This skillet's dual purpose is not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used every time I cook., August 23, 2010

I only cook with cast iron. It only made sense to me to have a cast iron spoon rest.

This spoon rest is used every time I cook. It captures the majority of the drippings. It's big enough to hold most of my wooden spoons and wooden spatulas. It's small enough to fit between the burners on my stove.

I've only had to cure it once. That was after soap was used to clean it.

As a side note, I do not think this was designed to use for cooking. The casting pores are simply too deep and rough. Even after curing, it doesn't have a non-stick surface. Frankly, it's too small for any use other than as a spoon rest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...That's one tiny pan, April 27, 2009

Honestly, I should have done my homework. With no scale reference, I assumed that this would be perfect for making my daily omelete. Turns out it's really a wee itsy bitsy tiny thing. I still can crack one egg into it, but that's about it. I want to transition away from non-stick pans and am still learning how to do it, but man! the food sticks. You have to grease the bugger a lot, I am guessing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tiny spoon rest, April 2, 2009

When I recieved this item I was surprised how tiny it was. Of course it does say how many inches it is, but just to see how small it is at home is different. It does its job though , I do not have a big gas stove, so it works very good for me. I like it . However if you have a large stove, the spoon rest will probably look too small for it.
