Wish I'd started using this sooner,

This review is from: Lodge Original Finish 9 -Quart Dutch Oven with Iron Cover (Kitchen)
If you've never used a dutch oven, your whole cooking world is about to change. If you've used slow cookers, you have an idea of what dutch oven cooking is like...but just an idea. Since I've started using my DO, I haven't fired up my crock pot once. For some reason, everything cooked in my cast iron just tastes better and I get greater satisfaction out of the cooking process. Maybe that's just psychosomatic, but it works for me so I'm going with it.
Okay, some hopefully practical advice: - Buy the meat rack / trivet. This will keep things from scorching on the bottom of the oven. Unless you like that sort of thing. I'm not here to judge you. Sometimes that direct contact is necessary. - As a previous reviewer noted, this is not for camp use. This is for use on your stove or in your oven. The lid on this oven is not suitable for flipping over and using to cook pancakes; it's a self-basting lid, which means it's got lots of little points on the inside of the lid to collect moisture and drip it back down onto whatever you're cooking. There's no legs on the bottom of the oven to keep it above the coals, there's no lip on the lid to keep coals from sliding off the top. Repeat: Designed for indoor use...unless you try REALLY hard. - The specs say this thing weighs over 20 pounds. I believe it. After you add a hefty chunk of meat, vegetables, and braising liquid (if any is needed), we're talking about a serious workout if you have to sling it around. - The money you save in buying cheap cuts of meat will be somewhat offset by the increased number of paper towels you'll be using to clean this pot. Never run your dutch oven through the dishwasher. - Don't be too worried about having to maintain the seasoning on the cast iron - if I can do it, anyone can! After use, I just wipe it out. If I let liquid sit too long in it and a little rust develops, I simply use steel wool to remove the rust, apply some oil, and heat up the oven again and work the oil into the iron. Between uses, I stick a few wadded-up paper towels in the oven. Five stars isn't enough. How much do I love my dutch oven? It was 91 degrees outside as I stewed chicken thighs and garlic...in my non-air-conditioned kitchen. If that ain't love, what is?

If you seek to use charcoals, this is not the dutch oven for you. Find one that has a lip on the top. This item is great for cooking over the open fire or for use in the oven.

A thought....,

Like all Lodge products this one is wonderful... however, I do believe you are in error in most of your catalog photos. I believe Lodge Dutch Ovens with odd number of quarts are legless and those with even number of quarts are CAMP Dutch ovens with legs... and your photos do not reflect this. This makes a great deal of difference to those doing the buying. Also you seem to have the 10 inch (note 10 on lid in pics) pictured in most of your Camp Dutch Oven pictures... really do wish you had a Lodge Product number and all the correct sizes and styles pictured correctly... I am sitting in South Carolina, hoping you got a lot of the photos mixed up or the person putting up the site didn't know exactly what to do... putting up a site is always hard when you do not work with the material every day... again my thanks for checkingsteve
