A note about the size...,
By
This review is from: Lodge Logic, Seasoned Cast Iron Cookware Muffin/Cornbread Pan (Kitchen)
This is not smaller than regular muffin pans. It's straightsided where regular muffin pans have slanted sides. This pan has muffin cups that are 2-1/2-inch-wide by 1-1/2-inch-deep. My regular cheap metal muffin pan cups are the same depth; at the bottom they are 2-inches wide while at the top they are 2-3/4-inches wide. It's actually an appearance issue, not a size issue.
As for quality, it's from Lodge and it's cast iron. It's superior.

That's what we got it for- and it works great.
The thick cast iron does a great job keeping your pre-heated fat/oil smoking hot while you add your batter. Our puddings seem to come out much poofier compared to when we used to use a cheap, thin walled muffin tin.

The only disappointment I had was that I was expecting a full sized muffin - though they did accurately give the measurements - I just didn't check. ....I agree with the earlier review...bigger than a mini, smaller than a regular. One bonus is that it fits well in a toaster oven and bakes in less than half the time on convection mode.

I ordered several pieces of cast iron cookware, so far this is the only piece i have received in the mail tho. I messed up 2 batches of cornbread muffins in 2 days with this muffin pan, then i finally got it right! Now i have the best muffins ever! So at first i tried baking the muffins with the factory seasoning, i put the muffin pan in the oven, turned it on to 400, let it warm up for 15 minutes, pulled it out of the oven, added a few squirts of olive oil(I have olive oil in a regular squirt bottle), and poured in the room temp. batter (I read pouring in cold batter may increase sticking). and the muffins stuck! Then i thought i noticed a little rust, so i scrubbed the whole pan with an SOS pad until the pan was its original dark gray color. Then I seasoned it, I coated the pan with vegetable oil and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour, then let it cool then I tried baking muffins again and they still stuck! Then i finally found a great seasoning method: wipe the entire pan with a very very thin layer of vegetable oil, then heat in oven at 500 degrees for 2 hours, let cool and repeat this process 3-4 times(I did it 3 times). So i went to make my third batch of muffins, put the pan in the oven, turned on heat to 400, waited 25 minutes, pulled the pan out, squirted a decent amount of olive oil in the pan, the oil pooled in the bottom of each little section slightly, then i poured in the batter, and it made a splattering sound, 25 minutes later i pulled the pan out, turned it upside down and the muffins dropped right out!!! I was so proud!!! Oh and by the way, this thing makes muffins that are plenty big if u fill up each muffin section about 3/4 to all the way full of batter. On the other hand it will make mini muffins if u fill it up half way full of batter. With my cornbread recipe at least.

Makes better muffins!,

I bought one of these to try out (I've been cooking more with cast iron cookware - Lodge Logic.) After making a half-recipe of blueberry muffins, I went ahead and ordered a second one so I'd be able to make a dozen at a time. You need to heat the pan along with the oven, but it makes a muffin with a better-textured outer surface than the regular muffin pans I had been using. The size of the muffins is a bit smaller than in my other (non-stick) pans, but I put the whole recipe for a dozen in two pans, which makes for a taller top on the muffin. My wife loves 'em (so do I.) The muffins also come out easily - I wasn't sure if it would be a challenge removing them from the pan, but it is very easy to remove them.
Overall, a great product. If you like baking muffins, try this pan - it beats the heck out of regular muffin pans.

Just what I needed,
This review is from: Lodge Logic, Seasoned Cast Iron Cookware Muffin/Cornbread Pan (Kitchen)
Lately, it's become obvious why everyone has a grandmother that insists on keeping their old cast iron pans.. they are the ultimate high-performance, non-stick pans! After scraping too many bits of aluminum off of my modern nonstick pans, I decided to give cast iron a try, especially since Lodge pans now come pre-seasoned so even someone with no clue can have the benefit of a nonstick finish. Well I'm slowly replacing all of my pans with cast iron. This muffin pan is great! Like other reviewers noted, it's tiny.. but that means it keeps my portion sizes small and it fits in my toaster oven (which is where I prefer to do my main cooking). I do keep the nonstick up by scrubbing with a brush and hot water only, and applying a small amount of oil and rubbing into the pan. I'm very happy and will never go back to a modern nonstick pan and have to worry about health issues involved with pieces of the finish getting in my food.

These muffins come out great! No complaints. Great size, I don't think I could eat more then one muffin with my meal. Also, if the pan was any larger I don't think anyone could remove it from the oven- it is heavy.

Added Note:
I have used these tins for a year or more now. I love them, BUT the key to using them is to PREHEAT them for the NON STICK FACTOR, and don't forget to oil them too. Your muffins will slip right out and taste oh so good. Made is USA! Lodge is a great name for cast iron. I love all of my pieces, and the price I paid for them here on Amazon is part of that reason. I ordered 2 of these muffin tins when they were on sale, not checking the reviews first. I agree with them now though, these are rather small muffin pans. They make a medium sized muffin. They do cook well and are a breeze to clean up, but I had hoped for a larger size in order to do a full batch of muffins at once with my 2 pans. Oh well, they will last forever and I can alter my recipes. I switched to cast iron muffin pans since I was spending a lot (over time) purchasing paper liners for my none stick, and aluminum muffin pans. Both of which I hope to now discard. Both of them pose different health risks. Ones I do not want to subject my family too. I did receive a cracked pan but amazon shipped me a new one out pronto. I did have to return the cracked one back with their online prepaid shipping label. The replacement has a few slight flaws, like chips near the top of the muffin pans, but it does not seem to affect the muffins at all so I will stick with it. Lodge is a good brand of pans. I have many of them in different sizes and use them daily. They have never caused me grief like my old pans used to!!! The only down fall, but a blessing in disguise just the same, is that you really need to wash them immediately, or as soon as possible. Sometimes they need a wee bit to soak (like while you eat dinner), but they wash up super fast with hot water and a scrub pad. Long soakings rust them. BUT of course that can be rendered with re-seasoning them.

Sized to help you stay normal sized too,

This company has been around a long, long time and the quality of their pots and pans is excellent. Cast iron consistently produces a nice crusty outside and a moist but well cooked inside. However, what I think is most admirable about these pans is the fact that they do not create mega muffins. The size is reasonable. We are living in a world where too many foods and drinks are just plain too big. Using pans like these helps keep portion size sensible!

Best Muffin pan ever,
This review is from: Lodge Logic, Seasoned Cast Iron Cookware Muffin/Cornbread Pan (Kitchen)
The muffins come out amazing! The cast iron retains heat, which in return makes perfect muffins. The muffins come out crisp on the out side and moist on the inside. I notice also stay fresher when you have some the next day. The muffin will stick a bit for the first couple of uses, however if you follow the correct care for washing them, they will build up a natural non-stick surface. I have other cast iron pans and they are the best!
