Visual Feast...,
By
This review is from: Lofts DesignSource (Paperback)
This book is a visual feast for the eyes, with countess examples of creative material usage. Containing only breif decriptive captions, this is not the book for you if you are interested in the literary asspect of design research! However, if you are a visual learner, as I am, what this book lacks in words, it more than makes up for in pictures. I had a hard time laying the book down!

I agree with Lindsay that this book is a visual feast. There a pages after pages of beautiful, high quality photos and though some are smaller, I don't appreciate every single photograph bled to the edge of the page. It's boring, and it's useless. Emphasize what's important, and supplement when appropriate!
The layout of the photographs never gets boring. I could flip through this book for weeks. At over 600 pages, it might even take me longer to see EVERYTHING. The photos are not ambiguous or confusing and clearly present the strengths of each project. The text is concise and well-written; never superfluous or cliché. Moreover, there is just enough text. I'm not looking for an essay, especially not a poorly written one. A blurb every couple of pages suffices, as the photos are quite strong. I appreciate a bit of context and the author calling out the content of the photograph, just in case I've gotten lost. The book succeeds at being easy to sit and read and easy to flip through. If you're looking for a lovely book on interior design and space planning, check out The New City Home. It's a bit older yet does not look dated. It showcases lofts, condos and apartments in a true variety of styles and also includes floorplans!

Extremely good reference book with lots of photos of well designed spaces. The book has minimal text which could be a problem with many readers who are not familiar with interior design and architectual concepts. I found it very well done and enjoyed getting into the photos to understand what the design concepts were and how they were emplimented.
