Like a ship captain's logbook, Log records observations of one's surroundings, in particular of movements in architecture and contemporary culture. Log fills the void in American architectural publishing that has existed since the closing of ANY and the journal Assemblage by providing a venue for criticism and a discussion of contemporary work and ideas. Edited by Cynthia Davidson (editor of ANY magazine), Log includes articles by established scholars and critics as well as the work of emerging writers. Log 1 includes articles by Elizabeth Grosz, Sylvia Lavin, Mark Rakatansky, Anthony Vidler, and Paul Virilio, reflecting the diversity of the cross-cultural discussion on the condition of architecture and contemporary culture. Among the entries are Julie Rose writing from Hong Kong on the city and the SARS panic; Robert Benson recording Cincinnati's response to Zaha Hadid's new Contemporary Arts Center; and David Goodman documenting bars in Madrid.
