Gary Schroeder has written a book that will be a goldmine of information for anyone who owns a log home that is more than a few years old. Plenty of practical advice for caring for, restoring, and fixing old log homes. He covers a large variety of topics: log home finishes and finish problems and repair, sanding versus waterblasting versus sandblasting, chinking repair and replacement, insect damage, decay . . the list goes on. Amply illustrated, plenty of color, vivid diagrams. And Gary knows his stuff--he also owns Schroeder Log Home Supply, one of the US's top log home supply stores. If you want practical help with how to diagnose log home problems, and fix them, this is the place to start. You will not learn to be a professional chinking applicator by reading the section on chinking, this book is more of a "log home owner's manual," not an encylopedia of log restoration techniques and tools. (Just as a car's owner's manual does not tell you step by step how to rebuild the transmission.)

I would guess that for years he's been getting questions from log home owners about how to get rid of carpenter bees, repair decay, seal gaps, and so on, and he's collected his advice and experience in this volume. And that makes it worth owning.

a well written book, though it concentrates more on building and new structures than existing log cabins. Nonetheless I found it informative and thorough in its own right.

Usefully book for log home fans, with lots illustrations and useful tips & tricks for log home maintenance. It's pretty simple to understand and read and will help you a lot when you are considering to expand the lifespan and durability of your log home!!

The book gives great ideas on maintaining and restoring log homes. I am a new log home owner and the book is written for owners like me.

The book includes everything you need to know in regards to caring for your log home from an education on logs, inspections, insects, maintenance, restoration and much more. This book is well written and filled with color photos throughout. The photos help visualize the topic being discussed and make the book very easy to follow. As the owner of Log Options, a business dedicated to the care and maintenance of log homes, I purchase this book in bulk for home owners when performing log inspections and it has been well received as a very valuable resource.

order book but it was sent to my old address even though everything had been changed on my account information for over a year. called customer service and they could not explain why the "glich" happend. on the phone with them for over an hour for them to tell me sorry can not fix your problem. will now have to fight the bill when it comes.
