Doomed after 13 flavours..., February 14, 2001
This review is from: Log Jam (Audio CD)
The follow-up on AT records to the amazingly blistering "13 Flavours of Doom", "Loggerheads" plods on through like a muddled bull in a china shop. A few good songs-the strikingly political "The Only Thing Green", the Clashy-reggae-tinged "Liberation and Execution", and the drummer-penned cuts "Overtime" and "Knots". This has always been one supercharged punk outfit, eventhough, on this disc the songs are kinda' strewn about in a haphazard way. This CD, on the whole, seems to show these Northwestern pioneers stumbling around the studio, confused, maybe all Molsoned-up, writing and collaborating on a fairly poor collection of songs. Score (if you can) "13 Flavours of Doom", but you can always play it safe with either "Dawning of a New Error" or the spectacular "Bloodied but Unbowed" compilation just to hear/see/feel what this raging behemoth of a group can literally do. For the uninitiated, "Loggerheads" is probably their worst effort in an over 2 decade history of churnin' out
steamrolling, anthemic punk classics. Trust me, there will be much better things to come.
