More About the Author

With 85 books to his credit, plus hundreds of scripts, articles and short stories embracing a dozen genres, William F. Nolan is an official Living Legend (voted that honor by the International Horror Guild).
As a noted pulp historian, he is a recognized authority on Black Mask, Dashiell Hammett, and "Max Brand" (Frederick Faust). Nolan has edited six collections of Faust tales, has written Max Brand: Western Giant, and is the author of the forthcoming biography King of the Pulps: The Man Who Was Max Brand. Nolan's historical anthology, The Black Mask Boys, is the key work on the legendary magazine - and he's written three books on Dashiell Hammett, plus several pieces on the early pulp fiction of his longtime pal, Ray Bradbury.
Nolan states: "I began my fiction career [13 novels and 185 stories] too late for the pulps, but I did have letters printed in Planet Stories and Famous Fantastic Mysteries - and I grew up reading Argosy and Weird Tales."
Recently voted a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Dark Fantasy, Nolan is currently at work on ten new books. His most famous creations, Logan's Run, is now out in comic-book format from Bluewater Productions - and a new mega-budget film version is due from Warner Bros. in 2012.
Nolan lives in Vancouver, Washington, with an apartment full of books, pulp magazines, and stuffed animals.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, read only if you're a Logan fan with time on your hands, January 22, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
An unnecessary sequel to a book that was already a bit weak in the writing category, Logan's World returns both Logan and Jessica to a world where the Thinker, the massive computer that had controlled Earth in the previous novel, has been semi-destroyed by the now dead Ballard--a backstory that most probably would have been more interesting to read about--and the world as Logan and Jessica has known it is destroyed. The cities are dead and the world is filled with violent scavengers and survivors trying to stay alive.

The various situations Logan, Jessica et al are put through are non-sensical and poorly compossed. Jessica is a victim of multiple severe rapes, yet her love for Logan is so strong that when he's a naked, starved babbling moron she thinks of nothing else but caring for him in their collective prison in between abuse sessions. Logan, who thinks that Jessica has been murdered by a gang of roving, violent scavengers (the Borgia Riders, as they're known), has no problem sexing it up with some girls to get a massive drug to trip on, or two sisters who want him to blind himself so he could be with him forever.

Overall, the book is unnecessary, unbelievable, and just plain poorly written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even better than Logan's Run, November 17, 2002

I really enjoyed this book... it was less manic than first installment, Logan's Run, which crammed so many adventures into one 150-page book. Logan's World seems more focused, with Logan's main goal of first getting medicine for his ailing son, and then locating his beloved Jessica when she's kidnapped and presumed dead. I can easily see this book as a potentially exciting movie. It's a fun and suspenseful read for those who enjoy sci-fi with social commentary.

I'd recommend that the first book, Logan's Run, be read before starting this book -- there are many references to characters and events in Logan's Run.

4.0 out of 5 stars Logan's World: A quality sequel, September 5, 2000
Logan's World continues the tale of a wonderful cast of characters created by William F. Nolan in his novel Logan's Run. This novel painted a picture of a world in which a post-apocalyptic society conserved resources and maintained social order by a strict system which included the mandatory death of all citizens on their 21st birthday.

The original work tells of the struggle of Logan and Jessica as they flee their protected "City of Domes" in an attempt to escape from the rigidity of that future world. They long to find a mystical place known as Sanctuary.

In the first sequel, Logan's World, the main characters return as they make their way through a world just beginning the healing process. They have learned the truth about their world and are striving to find their place in the new and exciting openness they've discovered.

Along the way they encounter triumph and tragedy, all the while continuinig their search for peace and security in their ever-changing world.

Logan's World possesses all the drama, intrigue, and action of the first novel. It allows the reader a chance to see more of the "world after the last war" and to place him/herself in the struggle, not only to survive, but to triumph in a world devastated and left to ruin.

Don't miss the opportunity to share the adventure, the romance, the drama of these incredible characters as they explore not only their world, but also themselves.
