Not a replacement for standard open and/or box end wrenches...,

Straight forward, they work. If you have easy access to the nut or bolt that you are trying to tighten/loosen they work really well and are comfortable to use.But if you are working on anything that is a bit tricky to get access to (such as anything to do with exhaust systems or anything under the hood of a car) these fall way short. You need a lot more horizontal (or vertical) movement with these then your standard wrenches. And there are just some things that you can't get a box end wrench on (this is how this tool works, very similar to a box end wrench). All in all they work, but not as well as they would like you to think.

Seems like it should work, but WHERE?,

I received this as a gift without ever having heard of the bionic wrench. After I figured it out -- which was not as intuitive as it probably should be -- I thought it would make a good replacement for an adjustable end (crescent) wrench, and possibly easier than finding the right socket. As it is, I have tried several times to use the bionic wrench, each time unsuccessfully. Sometimes I can't get it in to where I need it, and have to get my adjustable. Other times I can't get enough grip on the handle (because it interferes with the part surface) while the business end of the wrench is on a bolt, and I need a socket. Oh, and the grip it gets on a bolt head is too dependent on your hand strength, kind of like a channel-lock, so I wouldn't even try it at times when I know I'll need to put some muscle into getting a bolt broken loose -- too much chance of stripping the head.It seems like it should be a great little tool, like a self-adjusting adjustable crescent wrench. Maybe I've just had difficult applications for it? I dunno, I've tried it several times and just don't have a real use for it.

Ingenious. I didn't use it on a tight nut/bolt where there may be a slippage problem for some one with a weak grip. It is great for all other situations and nullifies the need for lots of SAE & Metric wrenches. I suspect I'd prefer the old fashioned wrench for tight nuts/bolts or situations where my grip is insufficient to prevent slippage and subsequent damage to the nut/bolt (i.e. rounding).

This can only be used where you have a ton of clearance on EVERY side of the nut or bolt in question, and it turns out there are few bolts where that is the case - I bought one a year ago, and have yet to use it even once (though I pulled it out a number of times) because there is never enough clearance on every side. It is one of those items that seems like it should work, but is useless in the real world.

Most nuts are out of reach or not out in the open. The only way you can use this on any thing is if the nut has free space all around it. So I grab an adjustable wrench and leave this one collecting dust.

I don't usually write reviews for tools--I'm more a literature guy. Still, when I saw the negative reviews for this gadget tool, I felt I had to put in my two cents.First, the tool does what it's designed to do. It's a great adjustable wrench that helps grip nuts and bolts with great force. It's easy to use, very much intuitive. You place it over the nut or bolt head, squeeze, and turn. With very little practice, you develop a quick rhythm of releasing the grip, returning the wrench to a start position, and gripping again for a other tightening or loosening turn, much like a ratchet. It's all really quite simple. Of course, if you're doing work where you require a ratchet with an angle head or an extension to increase your reach to get you into tight spaces, e.g. engine work or some other application where you would NEVER use pliers, then don't go reaching for the Bionic Wrench expecting miracles! It works like a plier works, as advertised, so it's foolish to expect anything else from this tool. Sticking it deep into an engine where your hand barely reaches and expecting it to accomplish the impossible just because it's called "bionic" is just plain silly. That said, if you're looking for a well-made, durable tool to take the place of several box wrenches and pliers for simple tasks, then this is your tool. If you're looking for some magic method for removing your exhaust manifold, hire a professional mechanic and leave the work to someone smart enough to choose the right tools for the job.

Looks neat in the advertisment's but not practical in everyday use. Only if the nut or bolt head is exposed in all directions will it work.

When it fits, it works great,
This review is from: Logger Head Tools BW8-01R-01 Bionic Wrench 8-Inch 7/16-Inch to 3/4-Inch Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool has been both a joy and a disappointment to use. The joy, when it fits, is that it is very easy and intuitive to use, it holds the nut securely and there is no need to worry about it slipping, unlike a cresent wrench. This is now the first tool I usually grab to remove a nut. The disappointment is that for many situations, there is not enough room to fit the tool around the nut. Often, the space around the nut has been limited such that only a socket, boxed/open wrench or (groan) a crescent wrench will work. So, when it fits, it works great.

It's beautifully designed and very well made, but it's not a tool for people with small or arthritic hands. Great collector's item for a toolaholic like me

Simple to say. These are advertised to the Suzy Homemaker. Along the same wavelength as the 200 in 1 screwdriver and 55 in 1 swiveling sockets. If you work with tools everyday, you'll buy this and never use it. I know; I did. |
