About the Author

Charles LeBuff has lived and written on Sanibel Island since 1958. He is a noted sea turtle conservationist and served as Refuge Biologist at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island for 32 years. As an avocation, during those years, he formed an organization known as Caretta Research. With the aid of other volunteers he pioneered sea turtle conservation along Florida's Gulf Coast. His book is a definitive study on the loggerhead turtle. His expertise in the history, wildlife, and ecology of the region is legendary. The author also served as a charter member of the Sanibel City Council.
