3.0 out of 5 stars very stylistic
i found it interesting more as a cultural experience than for its pure musical stimulation. the purchase was made blindly by a then 15 year old me on the recommendation of a friend. it grabbed my attention, but i now attribute that amazement to the fact that it was the first d+b i'd ever heard.

now that i've had more exposure, i feel as if i can better isolate what...

5.0 out of 5 stars NOTHING like it and will EVER be!!, September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
This album contains music for the soul. It's a collaboration of paradisical drum and bass album moves you in a way nothing will ever do. The total ambience of this recording is so peaceful, the bass massages evey part of you mind while the drums pace you along for the ride. Soothing, emotional, relaxing, intellegent. this cd is even one of my dads favorites! I so strongly recommend this album to everyone!! For those of you who are Drum and bass fans, if any album you should get this is it, I guarantee you'll be happy just owning this one. For the others who accidently ran into this page and have no idea what the hell drum and bass is, get it anyways and experience something totaly out of this world! I'm really picky when it comes any electronica album, there are alot of mainstream idiots that call themselves artists playing nonsense junk that gets old so quickly, but there are bands who aren't well known that put so much of themselves in there music they aren't worried of making money but creating perfection, and this album will show you why! Personally, if anything happens to this album,I'm buying another one no matter what cost!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new standard, December 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
It's amazing how a musician or any artist for that matter can affect people so deeply. In reading what others had to say about this CD, it becomes immediately apparent that we have experienced something on a grander level. Having an incredibly short attention span for most music out there, there's something about this album, specifically disk b, that I connect with on several planes. I know that this may sound a bit wacky to the uninitiated but those of you out there who have listened to this album dozens of times will agree that every listening reveals a deeper nuance. The seamlessly mixed tracks allow for the natural organic experience that this album elaborates. It brings you on a journey yet comforts you in a lushly layered soundscape at the same time. This is an album that you listen to in its entirety. Don't expect to understand it the first few times. Open your mind and allow yourself to become immersed in the experience. I welcome any comments!

5.0 out of 5 stars the defining moment of atmospheric / intelligent dnb, January 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
Two discs, one mixed and one unmixed. If you are a dnb / jungle fan, you probably already own this. If you've never heard dnb before, but are a fan of well-mixed music, ltj bukem works the decks like a zen master. If you are an aspiring dance dj, in any genre, listening to disc A will improve your craft.<br />
<br />
In some ways, this album is showing its age. Jungle, even atmospheric jungle, has gotten significantly faster and harder in the 12-14 years since most of these tracks were produced. Hovering around 158 bpm throughout, showcasing plenty of classic oldschool samples, jungle's roots in hardcore are more audible than in today's dnb. And yet, they are each undeniably jungle, and many of them can still go toe to toe with the best productions available when listening bliss is the goal (rather than visceral concussive blasts of monster bass).<br />
<br />
The drum programming, I will say, lacks a lot of the spasmodic originality that modern electronica holds dear. There's no ragga break, or tech step break, and the sublimity of the mixing can have the effect of bleeding the tracks together almost too perfectly...so not to play the elitism card, but other facets of the music have more than enough originality to quench a discerning listener.<br />
<br />
Not every historic moment is a historic moment for everyone, but there are good reasons why this album represents a historic moment for many. This has been a public service announcement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changed my tastes in muzak..., November 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
Well, as stated previously, there is a reason why these two discs recieved 5/5 stars by EVERYONE to review it.

A journey through soundscapes, breakbeats and synth washes, this is the definitive album of atmospheric jungle.

For those bored with the simplicity and monotony of modern jungle, this album will restore your faith in it.

For those inexperienced with electronic music, it is an excellent stepping stone into the world of 160 bpm breakbeats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shimmering Syncopation!, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
I'm a rock and jazz fan who has recently dipped his toes in the pool of all that is "electronica." My purchases have been hit and miss, but this is definitely a hit (and that's saying quite a bit, because with the exception of Photek and a few others, I find most D+B pretty tedious). This album is beautifully produced and textured. Which isn't to say it's hollow: the adddition of various nature sounds and the pretty synths keeps the mood bouyant and life-affirming. Buy it, if you're at all curious about the D+B thing...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest drum and bass recordings, February 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logical Progression (Audio CD)
Logical Progression is my favorite drum and bass album of all time. Sometimes very jazzy, I really enjoy LTJ Bukem's approach to jungle, fusing light, melody, female vocals, atmosphere and natural soundscapes over a clean, smooth drum line and deep soulful bass. It is a lot more relaxing than some of the harder, darker, more threatening, more repetitive jungle. The first Cd is a collection of singles from Bukem's label, Good Looking. It includes Peshay, PFM, Chameleon, Aquarius and Tayla, and Bukem himself. "Horizons" and "Demons Theme" are two outstanding Bukem tracks that truley demonstrate Bukem's approach to melody in Jungle. PFM's "Western" features Bukems MC, Conrad, and proves Conrad's versatility. The second disc is a Dj Mix by Bukem. His mixing is flawless and he creates a mix in which the breaks, synth lines, and atmospheres crossover without any notice, and it sounds like one continuual piece of music with many dimensions. I would recommend this cd to any one into electronic music, or anyone with an open mind. If you enjoy this you should check out the first Promised Land, a dj mix with Bukem and Conrad, or try to track down Regression Sessions another Bukem Dj set.
