5.0 out of 5 stars #1 Book on E-Commerce!

This review is from: Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce (Paperback)
This book is the key to successfully planning (and implementing) an e-commerce strategy. While the subject can be on the boring side, Reynolds' writing style kept me interested and wanting more. Unlike most books in this space, and I have read nearly all of them, I was very taken with the expert way in which the concepts are logically presented and how the examples turned on so many lights for me. Reynolds is an obvious expert in this field and I wished she worked on some of the e-commerce start-ups I did - my portfolio would be fatter!!! Seriously, if you need to learn this material, THIS is the book. Now I wonder if she would write something on home-improvement???

5.0 out of 5 stars The Author Understands the World of Multi-Channel, February 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce (Paperback)
I bought another one of the author's book a few days ago and felt she had hit that technology right on the head so I decided to try her logistics and fulfillment book. I wasn't disappointed. I had basically given up trying to find a good book on logistics and fulfillment -- no one seemed to really understand the complexities of the multi-channel world.

This book not only deals with Internet based companies, it gives the reader the information necessary to integrate an online business with traditional channels. It provides complete knowledge of how goods flow from the initial source all the way to the customer's premise. The author explains how to reach the ultimate goal of a state-of-the-art logistics and fulfillment operation. The book details how to determine in real time the sales data, warehouse inventory, production plans, and shipment schedules as an order traverses the value chain. There is even a detailed explanation of the tools need to crunch the necessary numbers into some form of reliable forecasting.

The author really understands that the success in the world of multi-channel requires a well-defined business model and the tight integration between legacy and online applications and systems, specifically in the areas of product category, customer, order, distribution, fulfillment, data, and operational management. While the book does point out that logistics and fulfillment is no easy task, it also explains that optimal logistics and fulfillment is achievable and the end result will make all the effort and money spent worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend the Book, March 31, 2001

This review is from: Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading this book...the author had a lot of very enlightening points and the material was presented in a much more "down to earth", magazine style way than the average business/tech book. It offers a unique perspective of what the Internet has done to change the landscape of 'traditional' business. The book should be read by those running today's businesses, although, I did feel that it was written as much for middle management as it was for the upper echelon.

The author captured the idea of the Internet being a tidal force in the marketplace very well. I highly recommend reading this book for its unique perspective on the Internet and how it has changed business from both the customers' and supply chain's vantage point.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!, March 28, 2001

K Sinclaire (Chicago, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce (Paperback)
The book is wonderfully written - a surprise for a technical book! Ordinarily, I would have little interest in the subject matter - logistics and fulfillment -- but know I have to be interested and enthusiastic about "E" everything, if I intend to be employed anywhere in my chosen profession -- procurement of goods and services. This book captures the reader's attention and most of all, keeps the reader interested in the material, because of the content, the author's delivery and writing method. If Ms. Reynolds had been my computer (or any other subject, for that matter) teacher in College, I would have been an "A" student. Ms. Reynolds personality really comes through the book. I will know all I need to know about logistics and fulfillment when I'm finished reading it. It's a good resource, too.

I ordered this book because I wanted to better understand what my industry is moving towards. I just received this book a week ago and thought that I would slowly slug my way through it. To my surprise this book is not only very informative but the author has made it a pleasure to read. I believe anyone seeking to understand the ways and means of logistics and fulfillment will benefit from reading this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful book, August 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce (Paperback)
This book is 90% case studies and very old statistics and 10% basic theory.
I've been working with online retail since 99 and I thought it would help me improve my business. But the book is terrible.
At first I thought it was just introducing statistics and information from other companies. After 50 or 100 pages I found out that the entire book is loaded with insignificant information...
