First of all, please do not purchase this mouse if you EXPECT the same feel and workings of your old "round ball" mouse. Optical mice are much more precise and sensitive.

I have used many types and brands of mouse in the past. I went ahead to buy this Logitech Mouse for its optical feature, its cool looks, price and that it is a Logitech. However, I must say that my initial experience of this mouse is below average. Here's why.....The mouse is to light and the cable tends to orientate the mouse when the hand is not on it. First of all, please do not purchase this mouse if you EXPECT the same feel and workings of your old "round ball" mouse. Optical mice are much more precise and sensitive.

I see a lot of reviews here stating that a slight mouse move shoots the cursor from one end of the screen to the other and that it is difficult to operate. I do not know why Amazon does not monitor customer responses more closely, as this is something that takes two seconds to alter. Just go into your control panel and change your sensitivity levels on the mouse, (you can also change double clikc speed as well).

The key reason I have upgraded my computers with this optical mouse is three fold.

1) Any hand size will feel comfortable using this mouse. Microsoft is a little big for smaller hands.

2) Personaly I like tho have the mouse to have some weight to it, not that this mouse is heavy or anything, but I did not really see the point of the "light as a feather" approcah Microsoft took with its optical mice.

3) I despise having to replace my older non-optical mice every year, it was simply not worth it in the long run. I have not only had no issues with this mouse, but I no longer have to use the q-tip and air spray cleaning method every month to keep performance.

Would HIGHLY recommend this mouse, definatly worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for Logitech!, October 9, 2001
This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
I have owned so many mice in my life that I have bought an extra cat to deal with them. Seriously, I guage all mice I buy by how long they last when compared to the first mouse I ever owned- a vintage circa 1990 two-button Dexxa, which lasted me 4 years and three PCs. I have owned 3 Logitech mice-all with wheels, one cordless and finally, this blue and silver little gem...set up time was as long as it took me to get it out of the box and slapped into the back of my system, which was about 13 seconds. Computer users of the world, get rid of your ball-mice and buy an optical mouse right now! Gone are the days of poor response from your mouse pointer because the ball and/or internal wheels are gummed up with dust, Fritos or salsa dip. It's great for applications like PhotoShop, fantastic for games like Unreal Tournament, Elite Force, and Homeworld- where there are a lot of sweeping movements. Movement is precise and accurate, the feel in your hand is comfortable, unless you have really big hands, then it might be a problem- plus it glows bright red when in operation, so that might be a selling feature to people who like lots of blinky-winky lights on their equipment. Is there a downside? Sometimes, you may accidentally bring up the Logitech control menu in the middle of something else you are doing- no big deal. Buy this mouse now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mac and PC users... Get this mouse!, January 23, 2001

While I still love the MS Intellimouse Explorer I use at home on my PC (I have large hands), this is a great mouse! I have used this mouse on PC and Mac and I am pleased with its performance on both platfroms.

The tracking is excellent. As with all optical mice, there can be tracking problems on certain surfaces (glass, shiny, white, etc.) but this not a problem for almost anyone. I use it on a plain grey desktop with no disernable pattern and it works perfectly. It even works on your pants leg! In fact, it is the most precise mouse I have ever used in Photoshop and that says it all for me.

Mac users will appreciate the addition of the right and wheel buttons. For some reason, 2 button mice have never caught on in the Mac world, but this (3 button!) mouse has the potential to change that.

While I like the 2 additional thumb buttons on the Intellimouse Explorer (5 buttons total) which are commonly used for browser navigation, the Mouseware software that comes with the Logitech provides the same functions (and more) using the wheel and its associated button. And, it costs much less than the Explorer.

I can also testify to the fact that this mouse works great using USB or the PS2 adapter (provided).

I know this is really silly, but optical mice just look cool, too. If you don't like people bothering you when you work, DON'T GET THIS MOUSE. The last time my input device got so much attention was when I used a light pen on a CAD system (15 years ago!)

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, August 2, 2000
By A Customer

I was looking to buy MS's mouse, but it was continuously sold out & I recieved this one for a birthday present. I can't believe how good this mouse is. I am so glad the "budget" MS IntelliMouse was sold out because this one includes some great features that Microsoft's just doesn't have. The software included has a feature called "WebWheel." When you depress the scroll button a small wheel pops up with customizable links to your favorite websites and other useful internet features. This is a great mouse to use & at a wonderful price.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Better Mouse, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
I have worked in Tech Support for some time now so I have used many different mice, but I have never found a mouse with as high a level of quality and precision as a Logitech Mouse. The benefits of an Optical Mouse over a ball mouse are many, and in this case the price is also quite nice. Anyone who has used a Logitech mouse knows that they are far superior to Microsoft mice in many ways. This mouse is NO exception! I fits right or left handed people and has a much better feel. I have noticed that the wheels on Logitech mice seem to stick less than MS mice also. If you need precision, and hate having to continually clean your ball mouse than this mouse is a MUST HAVE!

However, I must say that my initial experience of this mouse is below average. Here's why.....The mouse is to light and the cable tends to orientate the mouse when the hand is not on it. The feel of the mouse is very "cheap" plastic, a little testuring on the side might be better. The 4 gliding pads on the bottom of the mouse is not very well in place and if you are using a cloth type of mouse pad or on cloth surface, the gliding pads tends to restrict movement. Lastly, I find the scroll wheel feeling and quality to be sluggish. In all, I would expect more from Logitech which is a world leader in mouse manufacturing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one great mouse!, January 22, 2001
This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
I've been using this product at work for several weeks. It has to be one of the most pleasant mousing experiences I've had. The tracking is true, and I've never run into any skips. The addition of programmable buttons makes it even better. I was going to hold out for the Apple Optical Mouse, but I started using the non-optical version of this mouse and got hooked. Then I upgraded to this optical and have never regretted the choice. I spend between 7 and 10 hours in front of a computer everyday and this mouse has to be one of the best investments that I've made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Driver and wheel problems 4 1/2 stars is about right, March 29, 2001
This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
Overall this is a great mouse and much better than the entry level optical mouse Microsoft is sporting (I own both). "cheap" sound? The Logitech mouse's construction is much more solid Microsoft's offering. what sounds cheap is the sound the MS mouse makes when you set it down. The only two complaints I have about this mouse deal with the scroll wheel. First off, the scroll wheel can get a bit loose at times, which can cause problems in games. Secondly, while the included software is good, but it causes problems in programs which natively support scroll wheels (like IE). The mouse can work with or without the drivers installed. If you like the drivers I suggest you also get the patch off the logitech site which fixes the scroll wheel glitch for games. if you don't use the drivers, get a third party ps2 rate adjuster so you can take advantage of the best feature of this mouse: the tracking. for you spec heads out there, my first gen optical logitech mouse tracking rate (for ps2) tops out at 130hz. by comparison my MS optical (with its "second" gen laser) tops out at 100hz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse for less $, August 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
If you want an optical mouse, I think this is the one to go for. It's less expensive that Microsoft's, and Logitech is a trusted name. I got mine to use with my laptop (the little red mouse button IBM makes causes my tendinitis to flare up), and it works just fine through USB. The packaging is a little weird (there is a flashing red light on the box, run by batteries, that kind of alarms a person when you open the package), and I wonder if Logitech couldn't have cut the price just a tad by not having that extra, but otherwise, this is a great mouse. It's all you need in an optical one.

This review is from: Logitech 930495-0403 Corded Optical Wheelmouse (Personal Computers)
This mouse costs less than most optical mice and it is very comfortable. I use it with my laptop and I love it. Since it is optical there is no need to clean the insides of the mouse and it tracks on almost any surface so you don't need to pack a mousepad in with your laptop.
