I love this mouse for my son, it's a smaller size (between a notebook mouse & regular mouse) actually works great for my smaller hands. It *does* work right out of the box, but a 10 yrs old IBM computer BIOS wouldn't recognize this mouse upon boot up. Odd solution, but I took the old, yucky ball mouse and plugged that into the pc and just leave it tucked away behind the pc. Once the computer boots into Win98, it has no problems recognizing the Logitech mouse.
It's sturdy and has worked for the past year with a 4 & 7 yr old using it. The optical mouse moves much nicer than a ball mouse does for kids - especially nice for the 4 yr old who tends to make "jumpy" movements. Buttons are easy click. I have found that going to the manufacturer's site and downloading the latest drivers (...) works much better than automatically installing the driver's from the enclosed CD.

I bought this mouse for my son.
Simply put it is a piece of junk. I have been a computer pro for more then 20 yrs. Attaching a mouse is no mystery to me. But, this device simply never worked right. The mfg claims "works right out of the box". Not true. Install the drivers, and it works, sort of. You will have to hit the reset button at least once (often more) on every boot as the horribly written drivers try and fail to find the device. Once the drivers (software) eventually finds the device (hardware)the mouse works fine for that session. The previous mouse on my son's computer did not have this problem. Purging the drivers completely and trying the old mouse, and it still worked fine. Eventually I settled on the blue optical mouse by Microsoft. Not quite as small or cool looking as this Logitech, but it did just work out of the box (plugged it in and it worked). It has been perfectly stable for weeks now. I think (but do not know for sure) that the problem with the Logitech mouse was driver programming not hardware design. I took the mouse apart to make sure there were no cracks in the solder etc... that combined with the weird behavior that once it finally worked, it kept working until the system was reset all seem to point to a software problem. Checking the logitech website did not help. |
