Limited uses,

First of all, the camera works well, when it works. My QuickCam software won't recognize the camera, even though it works fine in other programs. Logitech knows there is a problem with their software. They have an extensive help page on the subject, but ultimately they can't fix it.Second, if you are looking to set up a webcam, the software only allows the use of SpotLife.com. You cannot setup a webcam anywhere else with their software. Their online support says they removed the feature because it was too difficult to support. You'll need to find and purchase additional third party software. Third, I just found out that they do not offer an 800 number for tech support. You have to use online support, email them, or call them long-distance. Finally, the quality of the image and performance of the camera itself are fine. Hope this helps.

The camera is very nice and easy to use. If you're looking for a camera, it's a great buy - with one catch. If you own an HP multimedia internet keyboard (such as the one supplied with the 8776c pc) you may have some problems. I'm not sure about other multimedia keyboards, but the Logitech camera conflicts with the software for the HP one. It disables the use of the volume control and mute button. Logitech's only solution is to update the keyboard software (which there is none at the moment). The only way to fix your machine after installing the software is to use the recovery cd. However, if this does not bother you (or apply to you), buy the camera!

Not high quality but effective, does what it does well,

The software is pretty comprehensive. You can create small video clips, take snapshots, and turn your PC into a motion activated security camera (really sneaky). I haven't tried turning it into a constantly broadcasting webcam but can see no reason why it should not work. Videos taken are saved in .avi format but can be further compressed for mail transfer using the Logitech software to produce a self playing executable for those recipients with bandwidth or IT knowledge limitations (i.e wouldn't know their .mov from .mpg and don't even mention DIVX).The image quality leaves a bit to be desired but this is somewhat par for the course in something so cheap... I have used it for video conference (using NetMeeting) and to record small video clips. The sound recorded using the built in microphone is fine for general use but obviously a separate microphone near your mouth is preferable for one on one conferences. Most refresh rate issues are because of the bandwidth needed to stream the data across the network not because of any inherent problems in the camera. Overall: Caveats: I could never get it to work with Win95 but now that I have Win2k it is a breeze. All Win95 users: what are you still doing with that (...)?

Easy to set up, simple instructions, *doesnt work*,

Other users have complained that the picture is grainy, that it works some times, but not others, that the software doesnt work, et cetera. My experience with the camera is thus. I bought it, opened the package, and installed it within 2 minutes. Its extremely easy to set up. I just plugged it into my USB port. The software at first didnt work, so I went to Logitech's website and downloaded the "new" software. It didnt work either. So I attempted to use quite a few other shareware programs for webcams, and none of them were able to recognize it at all. The camera didnt power up. I decided that perhaps it should use a powered hub (which is described in the 2-page manual), so I took a powered hub off one of my other computers, and hooked the camera up to it. It still didnt power up, and none of the software worked then, either. This camera is a piece of junk. The software is poorly written, the support from Logitech is awful, the manual is also awful. It just plain doesnt work. I gave it one star for easy installation and another star for being cheap. Minus three stars for ... Oh, and for the curious, I did try it on my mac -- It didn't work there, either.

Picture is very grainy at best, incompatable with HP keyboard. Has a tendency to lock up with the new Windows Media player. Bottom line...wish I'd bought something else.

For the price, this camera beats all! I recently purchased this camera in a store.... The set-up is simplistic, anyone can do it! Video-conferencing has never been easier!

Good value, no problems,

This product works great. I have Windows 98 with a Dell Pentium II 333 MHz. I was concerned a little before I purchased it because some reviews said they had installation problems. Mine went smoothly. I installed the driver, the Logitech software, and Netmeeting, all came on one CD. Then I pluged the Webcam and immediately started using it with netmeeting. The picture quality is good for Webvideo and netmeetings. Light is very important for the quality. If you are sitting in a room at night with one 75 Watt light bulb the quality is medium. However, in daylight the quality is great. Overall I feel that I got great value for my money. This is a perfect product for the simple webcam/netmeeting user.

Good for the price. If you want a camera for pics, this is not the one. I only use for videoconferencing. The software will trick you into thinking you need to pay for membership at spotlife in order to videoconference. Don't fall for it. You can use microsoft netmeeting in your windows software for free!!

I have had the Quickcam for a while now, and while it is a decent camera, the quality could be a little better. The software is slow, which I would like to see improved. But for the money it is a lot of fun and an easy way to have your own Webcam running in a few minutes.

...I know for a fact that it is awsome. The setup was easy, and it had very few problems but weren't hard to fix. So you should buy it if you are just getting started using a web cam.
