Nice idea, lousy execution, July 5, 2002

This review is from: Logitech 980117 Cordless Phone and PC Headset with Automatic Switch (Personal Computers)
Mine's going back, here's why. In theory, it would be wonderful to replace a wired headset and a wired microphone with a single wireless component. Eliminating all the wires running around the desk would be wonderful. Adding telephone handset functionality to the mix would be even better. That's what I had in mind when I purchased this product. What I got was a bigger wiring mess than I had originally. Logitech provides a ludicrously short patch cord to connect the base unit to the telephone, and the telephone handset must be plugged into Logitech's base unit. That's some great engineering: The patch cord, the coiled handset cord, and the thin cable connecting the Logitech battery pack to the headset are necessarily all piled nearly on top of each other. The wires all immediately become hopelessly intertwined. The rechargable battery pack for the headset rests on top of the base unit. It pops out of its charging cradle at the slightest provocation. I've had to chase it over the side of the desk as it trailed handset and cables behind it. Wireless isn't supposed to be like this. The headset is a lousy replacement for even the cheapest headset. It produces faint, monaural sound, and is much worse than the telephone handset. The microphone, as far as I can tell, was defective on my unit. I had to literally yell into the microphone in order for it to even begin to register with XP's speech recogition software. After several hours of fooling with it, I was never able to find a setting that would allow it to be used. There's a micophone volume setting on the Logitech base unit. It had no noticable effect...I'll live with the two wires on the desk until someone comes up with a better solution.

Nice product, pretty much what I expected, October 25, 2002
This review is from: Logitech 980117 Cordless Phone and PC Headset with Automatic Switch (Personal Computers)
A friend of mine, and myself went in on two of these so we could talk to each other through Net Meeting with the ease of a cordless phone. I will say that this is a nice procduct, it comes with a standard 2.5 mm telephone headset, but you can use any headset that you want. This is actually one of the nicer telephone headsets that I have seen, although I am switching between its headset and one that slips over m ear. On remarks that the telephone patch cable that runs from the telephone base to the Logitech base is too short I would reply by saying that is is a standard 12" cable that is typical for any telephone head set. All around a nice product, but I will say that you should shop around a little, this was a pretty hard product to find.... The only reason I gave this 4 Stars instead of 5 is because the unit does slip out of the base easily, but this does not provide an even moderate inconvienence for me.

Nice functionality but sound quality and coverage is poor, February 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech 980117 Cordless Phone and PC Headset with Automatic Switch (Personal Computers)
This unit was easy to connect to our two line phone and configure for compatibility with the phone. But, its sound quality was poor. People I was speaking with complained of lots of static during the call. Another problem with this product is that its performance is sensitive to the location of the headset with respect to the base unit. When I was 20 feet from the base unit, a motion of 4 or 5 inches meant the difference between a *VERY* static connection and a clear connection. Overall, we did not like this product and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
