Nice idea, lousy execution,

Mine's going back, here's why.In theory, it would be wonderful to replace a wired headset and a wired microphone with a single wireless component. Eliminating all the wires running around the desk would be wonderful. Adding telephone handset functionality to the mix would be even better. That's what I had in mind when I purchased this product. What I got was a bigger wiring mess than I had originally. Logitech provides a ludicrously short patch cord to connect the base unit to the telephone, and the telephone handset must be plugged into Logitech's base unit. That's some great engineering: The patch cord, the coiled handset cord, and the thin cable connecting the Logitech battery pack to the headset are necessarily all piled nearly on top of each other. The wires all immediately become hopelessly intertwined. The rechargable battery pack for the headset rests on top of the base unit. It pops out of its charging cradle at the slightest provocation. I've had to chase it over the side of the desk as it trailed handset and cables behind it. Wireless isn't supposed to be like this. The headset is a lousy replacement for even the cheapest headset. It produces faint, monaural sound, and is much worse than the telephone handset. The microphone, as far as I can tell, was defective on my unit. I had to literally yell into the microphone in order for it to even begin to register with XP's speech recogition software. After several hours of fooling with it, I was never able to find a setting that would allow it to be used. There's a micophone volume setting on the Logitech base unit. It had no noticable effect...I'll live with the two wires on the desk until someone comes up with a better solution.

A friend of mine, and myself went in on two of these so we could talk to each other through Net Meeting with the ease of a cordless phone. I will say that this is a nice procduct, it comes with a standard 2.5 mm telephone headset, but you can use any headset that you want. This is actually one of the nicer telephone headsets that I have seen, although I am switching between its headset and one that slips over m ear.On remarks that the telephone patch cable that runs from the telephone base to the Logitech base is too short I would reply by saying that is is a standard 12" cable that is typical for any telephone head set. All around a nice product, but I will say that you should shop around a little, this was a pretty hard product to find.... The only reason I gave this 4 Stars instead of 5 is because the unit does slip out of the base easily, but this does not provide an even moderate inconvienence for me.

Nice functionality but sound quality and coverage is poor,

This unit was easy to connect to our two line phone and configure for compatibility with the phone. But, its sound quality was poor. People I was speaking with complained of lots of static during the call. Another problem with this product is that its performance is sensitive to the location of the headset with respect to the base unit. When I was 20 feet from the base unit, a motion of 4 or 5 inches meant the difference between a *VERY* static connection and a clear connection. Overall, we did not like this product and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Considering similar products from Plantronics are many times the price, this is a great deal if you want a starter headset. I admit I was ready to toss mine after having problems with the microphone cutting out during conversations, but I finally figured out I had to turn up the microphone volume using the tiny control on the left side of the unit. It's been working consistently since. The factory must set this control to 0, resulting in bad "out-of-box" experiences for many people.Easy to switch from computer to phone connection sound by picking up the phone handset and placing it on the pad. Also very handy for a cubicle environment when you want to listen to online media without bothering your neighbor. I got the microphone to work with the PC by not following the color codings on the cable (I plugged the blue cable connector into the orange microphone input on the PC instead of the line in). So, a couple of gotchas that you might not encounter if you read the manual first (can't find it anymore) but the real value here is the price. Good starter system for a cubicle worker.

This was by far the worst headset I have ever used. The battery would constantly die, and would take 6-8 hours to charge. I could figure I would have use of the headset every two days.

As I know, Logitech is a leading player of PC peripheral equipment. I am sure their products are in high quality even I have never used 980117 cordless headset. I really want to buy it, but I wonder if its voltage is suitable for China. Because the voltage is 220V in China, I know it is 110V in U.S. Anybody can give me answer if the product is suitable for China.
