I was concerned from the product photo that the Logitech Alto Express Notebook Stand wouldn't raise my notebook high enough, so I was tempted to go for one of the adjustable stands. I am very happy I chose the Logitech. The angle could not be more perfect, the manufacturer obviously knew exactly what was ergonomically correct when they designed the stand, the center of my screen is exactly in the middle of my field of view. When in use, the stand basically disappears. Despite a ridiculously high price for a piece of plastic, it does exactly what it should, so to me it was worth the price. The adjustable stands I've seen are fussy and wobbly. In particular, the xbrand has small wheels that could send the notebook flying off the edge of the desk if it is accidentally bumped. Almost every other brand raises the front edge too high. Some, like the xbrand have trap doors you have to open to access front-mounted controls. I think many manufacturers take a simple concept and try to complicate it. That is one thing no one will ever pin on Logitech! This stand is a totally simple design. My home office is probably a bit stylish but I absolutely need functionality ... I work at my computer 12 - 14 hours a day. I hated using my notebook before, now with an HP wireless keyboard and mouse and the Logitech Alto Express Notebook Stand I hardly know I'm not using my desktop PC. I think this notebook stand is the winning entry.
PROS: Perfect viewing angle, rock-solid support, looks beautiful CONS: Hey, it's a three-dollar piece of plastic with an insane profit margin, but I'd rather pay more for something that is perfect than something that misses the mark.

this product is beautiful, and elegant, and well made. The width does not span the entire width of my 17" laptop, but it feels secure much less, and allows the heat to escape underneath and at the back of the stand.

The stand is fantastic for my Dell Inspiron 17 inch laptop. Its stylish, slick, and does exactly what its suppose to do. So why the so/so review? I can't stand companies who charge exhorbant amounts of money for this type of stuff! I work in the plastics industry and I know how much these things cost so charging you $30 is way too much. The equation is simple Value = quality/price. The price for this is WAY too much. They know they can get away with it so they charge you $30 when something like this should cost no more then $15.
Its good, it does the job, but value wise it fails due to its very high price.

Nice stand but beware,

I was looking for a notebook stand for my Macbook Pro but I didn't want to pay too much, this Logitech product was the best cost/value I found. The stand itself is very simple, just a piece of plastic althought very nice looking but it is almost perfect for me. My big problem is that the MacBook Pro has the DVD Drive at the bottom and because of this is imposible to put or eject disks without manually lifting the notebook :(
It's not so much of a problem inserting the disks because you know "when" to lift the notebook but the problem is when for example I am burning a CD with Toast and the software automatically ejects the disk. This action make the cd stuck against the table and I have to manually lift the notebook and push the cd back in and then manually eject the cd again, this time having the notebook lifted of course. Anyway, if you notebook's drive ejects CDs by its sides I think you will like it. Price: $11.99 + shipping = $18.76 Value: 5/5 Usability: 3.5/5

This product is great. My 17in. is a little longer than the stand, but it fits just fine and secure. Lets heat excape, slim design, light weight, etc. The stand brings the monitor up to eye level so you don't have to bend your neck to view. However, I failed to think about the uncomfortable typing on the stand. So I also had to purchase a seperate keyboard to use. Just plan ahead and buy the keyboard also.

Poor cooling design -- causes my laptop to overheat,

Looks nice and lifts the laptop up to the right level, but 15" Unibody Macbook Pro started overheating when I used it. The problem is that the laptop rests directly against the acrylic material of the stand, which is not a good heatsink. (On a desk just the few mm in height gained from the feet makes all the difference).

A reasonable solution for most laptop users,

I have tried 4 different solutions for laptop riser stands, and this one ends up being the one we use/like the most.
We have the alto keyboard stand and that was unusable straight out of the box, as the laptop would keep sliding off of it.

Not good for early '08 MacBook Pro,
This review is from: Logitech Alto Express Notebook Stand (Personal Computers)
Since I use my early 2008 MacBook Pro as a desktop replacement, it was in my best interest to get some sort of a stand for my laptop if I didn't want to strain my neck/back. So I decided to go with Logitech Alto Express, as it looked neat and it was inexpensive, too.
Unfortunately, when I placed my MBP on the stand I pushed the lid all the way back (well, as much as I could - I didn't want to risk breaking it), yet it still wasn't enough - the screen wasn't perpendicular to my desk, which made the viewing experience unpleasant. I had to raise the front part of the stand for about 1.6 inch, till the viewing angle was right. I'm sure this stand might work perfectly with some other laptops (where the lid can be pushed further backwards), but it was a failure for me and my MBP. It could work with books underneath the front part of it, but then again, what's the point in doing that? In short, I regret to say that I cannot recommend this stand. I returned it just today and decided to invest more money and get a mStand instead.

This is WELL worth the money. I love it and it fits my 14" IBM Thinkpad T30 like a champ. Pretty slick looking, too. I wouldn't buy it for anything over a 14" laptop, though, at least until Logitech comes out with one that fits a 15.4" and a 17" laptop, then I would be all over it like white on rice.

I ordered this stand from BuyDirect about a three weeks ago and it is fantastic. I got it knowing that I would be getting a 22" external monitor to use with my MacBook and I didn't want to spend too much, I mean, the Alto Connect looks great, but $60? Yeah, no.
The Alto Express is perfect. My MacBook looks great on it, either opened or closed and the height is perfect. I just got my monitor and the two are amazingly almost the same height, with no adjustment required. My boyfriend liked the stand so much, he ordered two for his laptops (one Mac, one Dell) and they look great. for anyone who is concerned about price, BuyDirect (at least right now) has them for like $15 shipped and that's totally, totally worth it. The plastic is smooth and well shaped and the bottom crevice is great for a MacBook. If you have an older MacBook Pro or another laptop with an optical drive in the front, it might be a slight hassle, but for anyone who has a right or left facing optical drive, it's perfect. |
