5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Great Sound System for an Unbelievable Price!!!
I bought the product from TigerDirect on an impulse buy and afterwards I read all these bad reviews on it and I was very worried about my model, especially when I bought it for 119.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate. It just came today and I crossed my fingers and hooked it up. Before I turned it on, I checked the model number and it was R706 which is <R641> I think the 6...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sounds OK, but wish it had an alarm
I got this to replace the iHome clock radio. It certainly sounds better than the iHome (but don't expect an audiophile experience), but although it has a clock, a radio, and a sleep function, it doesn't have an alarm function to wake you to music. Seems silly not to include an alarm in a unit like this. I don't know what Logictech was thinking. I haven't had any of...

Seems silly not to include an alarm in a unit like this. I don't know what Logictech was thinking. I haven't had any of the failures other people have reported here. It seems to be working fine after using every day for about 1 month.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Inventory Control?, January 18, 2007
By
This review is from: Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System (Electronics)
This product has a known defect for serial numbers R641 and less (see Logitech website). I just received my Amazon Order and it was serial number R635. It will be sent back tomorrow. Hopefully, Amazon will cleanse its inventory on its own, rather than relying on its customer base.

As expected the AudioStation sounds very good. However, there are some functional problems that ruin the experience. On the unit both volume controls turn down the sound level. Every time the iPod is turned on while in the Audiostation it defaults to shuffle mode, regardless of how you left it. The power supply brick was unexpected (I hate them) and it's too loose fitting; the plug falls out with the slightest nudge. I have no idea how this product made it through the quality control department!!! Shame on Logitech - drop this failure and start over!

2.0 out of 5 stars The good and the terrible, April 6, 2007
By
This review is from: Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System (Electronics)
I have waited until I finally received a working model to post my experience with Logitech.

First, let me begin by saying that now that I have a working Audio Station I really do love it. The product deserves the excellent iLounge review it received. The sound is great. It has an audio in port and an S-Video out port on the back. I cannot for the life of me understand why there are $300 units made by Apple and Bose that are nothing more than some speakers. Additionally, the AM/FM tuner works well. I really only use the FM tuner but have found it to be good - better than I expected but not perfect. However, once again, most units at this price point do not have any sort of AM/FM tuner and that was a sacrifice I was not willing to make. For all of these reasons I really do like the Audio Station.

However, if there was even another product on the market with these characteristics (AM/FM, S-Video out, audio in) I would have taken my business elsewhere in a second. My experience with Logitech was TERRIBLE. First, I brought home a unit from Best Buy in early February and found that it was one of a bad batch that went out to Best Buy stores (see other reviews on this page for more details on which units have the problem with buttons not responding). After the buttons on the front of the unit didn't respond I got online and read the reviews posted here on Amazon as well as on Logitech's own website where they finally admitted that this was a flawed product. I then contacted Logitech to see about having a product sent to me as part of the warranty.

The representative at Logitech told me I would be better off taking my unit back to Best Buy. I realized that I knew more about the problem with the Audio Station than the customer service rep did after only about 20 minutes of poking around online. I told him that apparantly a bad batch went out to Best Buy stores and the last thing I was going to do was to waste my time returning a product to Best Buy only to bring another faulty unit back home. I also told him that I'd read that Audio Stations coming directly from the factory were reportedly working fine and I wanted one of those. After some time on the phone we arranged for my unit to be picked up and then I would receive a new unit in 10 days.

10 days later I called. This was the first time I found out that the unit was out of stock and my order was on backorder. I was furious that I had to call to find out the item was on backorder. Not only was this the first I heard of the problem but there was nothing they could do for me. I was told the first week of March they would recieve some in the warehouse. I waited. About 8 days into March I called again. The order hadn't made it to the warehouse. A small order was due to arrive but it was not guaranteed that I would get one of them. Again, I was very displeased but there was nothing I could do.

This was the first time that a customer representative seemed to know what he was talking about and actually served as an advocate for me. To their credit, I did recieve a unit out of that first batch. It arrived relatively quickly and works fine. However, it was a terrible, terrible experience along the way.

If you buy one of these, I guarantee buying directly from the factory. Logitech does not seem inclined to recall their bad units and appears to be content with letting customers deal with their problem. If you do buy from Best Buy or from Amazon, be careful - you may receive one of the flawed units and who knows how long it will take a replacement to get to you. It basically took Logitech 7 weeks to get me a new model. I've never had so much trouble giving a company $300 of my money. I plan to never shop with Logitech again.

2.0 out of 5 stars GOOD THEN BAD, November 15, 2007
This review is from: Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System (Electronics)
Bought this after reading all the past problems. It worked great straight out of the box from Tigerelectronics then 12 days later it started making banging noises from the speakers and the display flashed and failed and then no functions. This one had a late 07 date code so it seems the same old problems are still there...great shame as it sounded great when it was working.
Just returned it for a refund at my expense $15...not very happy about that!Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System

1.0 out of 5 stars They haven't fixed it yet, August 18, 2007
By

I was hoping that, now that Logitech has known about this problem for so long, they would have fixed it once and for all. My unit is PID R711. Logitech says that R641 and earlier units are defective, but my experience says that's also true of later units.

The unit I ordered a month ago (July 12, 2007) was shipped by J&R. It worked fine when I set it up: the sound was great, the radio worked well, the controls worked correctly. I was happy with it.

Two weeks later the system started losing track of the time of day. Then it would occasionally turn itself off. Then the volume would start turning itself up and down erratically. There was also some other erratic behavior. Finally, yesterday, the front panel went blank, the unit went dead, and there's no way to turn it back on. The system is unresponsive, both to the touch panel and to the remote control. End-of-the-road dead. I know it's receiving power because when I plug in the iPod it turns the iPod's screen on and the iPod starts charging.

Shame on Logitech for allowing this problem to continue for so long.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Great Sound System for an Unbelievable Price!!!, October 5, 2007
This review is from: Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System (Electronics)
I bought the product from TigerDirect on an impulse buy and afterwards I read all these bad reviews on it and I was very worried about my model, especially when I bought it for 119.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate. It just came today and I crossed my fingers and hooked it up. Before I turned it on, I checked the model number and it was R706 which is <R641> I think the 6 stands for the year it was made. 6 for 2006 and 7 for 2007. The read in a review that 2007 models work and lo and behold... IT WORKS! I got past the language selection without a problem and the touch screen is fully functional. I would say it's pretty responsive but not as responsive as the scroll wheel on my ipod nano (2nd gen). The remote works and I was playing my songs at the same time charging my nano. The sound is great especially for the price of 69.99!! If anyone is deciding on buying it now, I would say take a chance and do it and you might get lucky like I did.

I would given it a four star due to the fact that sometimes my ipod would go in shuffle mode and I would have to take it out and undo it. But for the price, who cares! This would make a great Christmas present for anyone who has an ipod and they would love you for it.

Oh and many people complained about the brick of an adapter. If you have space behind the speakers just simply put the brick behind the speaker and use and extension cord if the outlet is way too far but if you have an outlet right next to your book shelf like the way I have mine, you won't even see the brick in the shelf. The speakers, by the way, look gorgeous. Now I just need a larger black ipod.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I read the reviews -- it is a flawed product, January 1, 2007

I wanted to add my 2 cents: excellent sound, but controlls are very flawed. I really loved the sound in the store. I bought AudioStation for a present, my wife opened it and... Just like someone else said, we couldn't get past the language selection step, remote not working either. After about 30 mins of poking our fingers into the "select" button, AudioStation miraculously accepted the language setting and started playing the iPod. But, to my dismay, both up and down volume buttons REDUCED VOLUME! In no time we had the volume all the way down and couldn't get it up! We couldn't figure out how to hear the music. Luckily, I discovered that now the remote was working (why? I don't know) and AudioStation was responding correctly to the volume buttons on the remote...

In sum, even though we can play music, AudioStation made a pretty bad impression.

One more thing: AudioStation comes with a large brick-like power supply unit. I was really disappointed with that because I wanted a slick unobtrusive sound machine in our living room. But where am I going to put the power brick??? I'm going to return the product and get my wife something else.

This review is from: Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System (Electronics)
I'm sorry to hear of the previous problems you folks have had. The one I have has worked flawlessly, and sounds wonderful. To my ear, Bose systems don't sound any better. I think this system is well worth trying.
