You can take still photos up to 1,280 x 960 resolution with software scaling, or 640 x 480 true resolution. Video captured on the go can be sized at 320 x 240 at 15 frames per second, but when attached to your computer through a USB cable, you can capture video at 30 frames per second at 640 x 480 resolution.
QuickSync USB cable allows you to connect the ClickSmart 510 to your computer to transfer your pictures and videos or to use the ClickSmart 510 as a full-functioned Web camera. Make live video calls to your friends and family, and broadcast video straight from your computer to the World Wide Web.
The ClickSmart 510 comes with an impressive array of software for video and photo editing, including motion-detect software to automatically start recording video when your camera detects movement. A trial membership to SpotLife is also included for broadcasting video on the Web.
Additional accessories include a wrist strap for secure handling, four AAA batteries to get you started right away, an adjustable swivel base for stationary video recording, and an 8 MB SmartMedia removable memory card.
Logitech offers a two-year warranty on the ClickSmart 510 digital camera.
And by using the built-in microphone and Microsoft NetMeeting or Windows Messenger software, you can even make live video calls. The camera includes a removable memory card and built-in microphone and flash. It lets you add live video to Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) with the free Logitech IM Video Companion. You can even send live video to mobile phones with Logitech Mobile Video.

Not for everyone,

This review is from: Logitech ClickSmart 510 Dual-Mode Camera (Personal Computers)
If you don't have a digital camera, have no immediately plan to invest a big chunk of money into "real" digital camera, but you're looking to buy a webcam. If the descriptions fit you, then this handy little gizmo provides a perfect solution for all your imaging needs. As a webcam, it provides solid quality and idiot-proof usability of a traditional Logitech webcam. You just plug in the USB cable, install the software, and up you go (no extra power source is needed for the webcam feature). I tested mine with MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, and it worked just fine with both programs. As a digital cam, all you have to do is yank out the USB cable, load 4 AAA batteries, and point-and-shoot. The bundled 8MB flash stores up to 121 1,280 x 960 or 640 x 480 still images, 184 320X240 images, or a number of video clips (the amount of video can be stored depends on resolution and the length of the clip). When you're finished, plug the USB cable back, with one push of the "Sync" button, everything on the flash are downloaded to your computer. It's that simple. No fuss at all. The stills produced by the camera are, by no means, professional. They are not even print-quality, for that matter. But the pictures are good enough for emails or webpages. I hear people complaining that the camera does not have a LCD display, the resolution for stills is too low (1280x960 is achieved by software enhancement, native max. res. is only 640x480), no zooming, and things of that sort. But come on, you can't really expect a 100 dollar camera performs like a 500 digital camera. In short, this is a camera for those who need a decent webcam and also a simple point-and-shoot for occasional low-quality stills. For those who want a high quality, high-end digital camera, have 800 bucks ready and look elsewhere. For those who already have a high-end digital camera but need a webcam, also move on, there are much cheaper webcams that perform at par with ClickSmart 510. I hope this helps.

New to Digital Photo,

As an advanced SLR amateur, I was looking for a product whichwould provide: webcam, medium/low resolution still pictures, and videos with audio too. I discovered this at FNAC in Grenoble (F) during Christmas time and finally purchased here in Canada. It did exactly what I wanted: it's *not* a substitute for my NIKONs or pocket ROLLEI, but it's tremendous fun using it!!! Video quality is good, audio is excellent. Colours are generally good, but avoid direct sunlight. I haven't taken a lot the still images, as video is indeed more fun. I purchased a 64MB memory card, to replace the standard 8MB, and it works! I can shoot mini-videos for more than 20min overall. The only negative point is the flash: too strong and little or no usage. WebCam works fine and it's great fun to communicate with distant relatives. The software included is very useful for linking together your small videos or add some titles. In the end: if this is your first experience with digicam don't hesitate. Don't expect results similar to good point-and-shoot 35mm cameras, but you can see your little creations right away back home on your PC! And kids love it too.

NOT GOOD ON WINDOWS XP,
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech ClickSmart 510 Dual-Mode Camera (Personal Computers)
I am a huge logitech fan. However, I have to say this is the first logitech camera I am seriously diappointed with. I own the logitech Quickcam Traveller, Quickcam 3000, and this Clicksmart 510. All work great on XP except the Clicksmart 510.You can use the clicksmart for just about everything else but MSN Messenger. It freezes everytime within a min. or so. I have done a clean install of XP and still nothing. Finally wrote Microsoft, they say it's not compatible at all with MSN, and logitech still claims it is. I have another friend with same camera and same problem. Don't waste your money on this camera if you use XP. Any other OS, should work great if you like to use MSN messenger. Also, won't work with yahoo either. It freezes and gets errors. Hope you find this helpful.
