Leader in its class,

This review is from: Logitech ClickSmart 310 Dual-Mode Camera Special Edition -USB (White box) (Personal Computers)
I've been using the CS 310 since July 2002 and the experience has been positive. First off, it's totally inadequate as either a digital camera or a "video cam." The resolution is just not very high, and in video mode you can shoot for something like 15 seconds. The CS 310 is a webcam, and should be used as such.As a webcam it's better than other products in its class. It offers good light sensitivity, which means it'll give you decent (even though grainy) picture quality even in a dimly lit room. The framerate is very good, unlike most other webcams in this price range. Best of all, it's auto focus and auto exposure, so you don't have to mess around with a focus ring each time you use it. The software driver installed easily on my Windows 2000 PC. It comes with a webcam application that allows you to capture videos and still images to your PC as well as host a webcam site (for a fee). It's easy to use, but I bought the 310 to use with NetMeeting, which is a totally no-hassle operation. If you have Windows XP, you can use the 310 well with Windows Messenger and video-chat with your friends. In short, I've been satisfied with the performance of this economic yet solid webcam, and I recommend it to you.

Play digital camera or decent web cam,

This camera is about as simple as they get. I gave this camera to my daughter who is 9 and she loves it. She has it hooked up to her E-machines Celeron Win Xp system and uses it as a web cam for yahoo IM. As a webcam it gives good images and works well (better than quickcam express USB). As a digital camera it can take 40 352 x 144 pixel photos or 160 176 x 144 pixel photos. It can also take 15 seconds of video. It runs on 4 AAA batteries as a digital camera or off the USB power as a webcam. The digital camera even has a timer and a multisnap mode that will snap off 5 shots at one second intervals. It provides a counter for the photos and battery status indicator. I would suggest going to Logitech's web site and downloading the most up to date software and installing it rather than starting with the supplied CD. Mine had ver 5.6.3 supplied but version 7 is out now. With the supplied software you can even set up the webcam to be a motion sensor camera and take shots when it senses movement. Overall it is a good cheap webcam with the option to remove it from its cradle and take some low quality snapshots. If purchased on sale with rebate it should be a good deal.

This is another logitech webcam which doubles as a digital camera. The webcam is able to record video and still images, but NO SOUND. Although the 310 is a basic webcam model, it has one feature, it can double as a digital camera. Just unplug it, and take it away from the computer for all your eBay photographs, or other photo emergency uses when you don't have a better digital camera around. The camera holds 2Mb worth of images. You need 4 AAA batteries to turn the webcam into a digital camera. The swivel base on which the plastic webcam normally sits doubles as the docking port for downloading images from the digital camera. There is no LCD screen for you to preview images when you take them, just a simple viewfinder, so beware of parallax errors when you snap something close up.

A great cam for outdoor photos and easy uploading to the net, email, etc. Just click and go. Plug cam back into USB connection and your pics are automatically displayed on your pc.As for using as a web cam or indoors, the photos tend to be grainy unless you have the PERFECT lighting everytime which means you may not get some of those memorable shots you hope for. I would recommend this cam for beginners because it is very simple to use and very inexpensive.

Buy this product if you're looking for a way to do video-chats, but it does not produce very good quality pictures.

This is a great little webcam. Hooked right up to my PC (windows XP) without any problems. The picture clarity and frame rate are great. Also has the added benefit of acting as a stand-alone digital camera. There is no flash - but it takes pretty good images in good light.Small footprint, simple to use, great for the price.

Good for taking pictures of large objects that are not too far away that don't require much detail.

Poor picture quality,

The picture quality of this webcam is best described as one you might expect from a low-end webcam you bought 2-3 years ago! Very disappointing and the extra features as a digital camera/video clip camera are only frills to hide this fact. With picture quality so bad, none of the extra features matter anyway.I absolutely would recommend buyers to look at other alternatives. If you receive this as a gift, see if you can return it to the store!!

Perfect webcam - NOT a digital camera,

This product was NEVER meant to be an impressive digital camera. And at <$.., how could it be? As a webcam, I've found the clicksmart to be reliable with a good picture and versatile in terms of different lighting. It's a great way for me to video-conference with friends cross-country. This product is meant to be an inexpensive way to get started in the world of video over ip; if you're buying it for any other reason you will be disappointed

For the price, you can't get a better webcam than this. It's quality is basically that of any other webcam on the market. The digital camera feature is not worth bothering with, because the pictures are always blurry. The only reason I got this camera however, was for the webcam feature, and it works great. If you are looking for a webcam, this is your best bet.
