5.0 out of 5 stars PS2 Perfect, March 14, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I have some arthritis in my hands, and as much as I like the Sony game controller, I experience pain if I play for any length of time. I have been looking for a controller that doesn't require as tight a grip, but have been put of by many warnings about manufacturing quality. Recently several people suggested the Logitech wireless controller, and I made it a point of trying it out.

The controller is significantly larger than the original equipment, and I quickly found the shape much more comfortable to hold. The unit also has a very solid, weighty feel to it. While the size stretches my grip a bit, I can still perform a soft reset with a minimum of inconvenience.

The unit comes with a small receiver (2.4 GHz) that plugs into the controller slot, with a short tether to get it positioned without interference. Installation is as simple as putting some batteries into the controller and firing everything up. In order to conserve batteries, the controller allows you to switch off the vibration mechanism. In addition, the controller turns itself off if you leave it sitting for too long. This will cause some confusion when you pick it back up the first few times and nothing seems to happen. Hitting the start key turns it back on.

The analog 'thumbsticks' offer a grip that is a little less firm than that of the Sony controllers. This, coupled with the increase in overall size means you will have to concentrate for a bit before you acclimatize. I wouldn't call them slippery, but this is probably the only thing with which I wasn't comfortable. It uses a single D-pad control instead of four buttons, response and control seem faster, and very rarely, there is a slight signal bounce.

Logitech has chosen to avoid exotic features and produce a controller that is more ergonomic. In doing so, they have produced a true next generation controller that is a pleasure to use. And the cables running across the floor won't be missed either. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic controller., February 8, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I did some research before going cordless, and everywhere I looked the reviews said this is the best of the bunch. The reviews were right.

The response is as quick and steady as my stock PS2 controllers, and the vibration is much stronger. Not once have I lost connection with the base unit while playing a game. And after heavy playing for over a month I still haven't had to replace the batteries.

But beware: small-handed players should avoid this unit because it is much larger and heavier than the stock PS2 dual-shocks. The L2 and R2 buttons are especially tough to reach unless you have long fingers. I always thought the PS2 dual-shocks were a little small, though, and the Logitech cordless feels perfect in my hands.

My only complaint is one that has been mentioned by others, and that is the slippery analog sticks. After you've played awhile and your hands get sweaty it can be hard to get to keep your thumbs on them. A little tape or stick-em solves the problem nicely, however.

Now that I've used the Logitech I couldn't switch back to the stock PS2 controllers. This is a great controller, period, and the wireless feature just makes it that much better.

Logitech Customer Service note: After playing with my controller for a month or so the square button started sticking in the down position occasionaly. I called Logitech and they shipped me a new one immediately, at no cost to me! After that I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Controller- Best PS2 Purchase I've made, July 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I did a lot of research before buying this controller and I have to say, that this was the best Playstation 2 purchase I've made in since buying my Playstation 2 over a year ago. I don't have extremely large hands, but I always found the standard dual shock controllers to be small and my hand would get cramps after playing for a few hours. This controller is considerable bigger and heavier than the dual shock contoller, but I've found that it's more comfortable for me. I've owned this controller for about 2 months know and I haven't had any problems with the analog controllers being slippery (as other have reported). My couch is about 20 feet away from my Playstation 2 and the contoller works flawlessly at that distance and from any angle in my living room. I always keep the vibration function turned on and I've been averaging around 30 hours of gameplay before having to change the batteries (part of this could be because I've been using cheap generic batteries). My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that the vibration function doesn't feel quite as the same as the vibration on sony's dual shock controller.
