5.0 out of 5 stars PS2 Perfect, March 14, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I have some arthritis in my hands, and as much as I like the Sony game controller, I experience pain if I play for any length of time. I have been looking for a controller that doesn't require as tight a grip, but have been put of by many warnings about manufacturing quality. Recently several people suggested the Logitech wireless controller, and I made it a point of trying it out.

The controller is significantly larger than the original equipment, and I quickly found the shape much more comfortable to hold. The unit also has a very solid, weighty feel to it. While the size stretches my grip a bit, I can still perform a soft reset with a minimum of inconvenience.

The unit comes with a small receiver (2.4 GHz) that plugs into the controller slot, with a short tether to get it positioned without interference. Installation is as simple as putting some batteries into the controller and firing everything up. In order to conserve batteries, the controller allows you to switch off the vibration mechanism. In addition, the controller turns itself off if you leave it sitting for too long. This will cause some confusion when you pick it back up the first few times and nothing seems to happen. Hitting the start key turns it back on.

The analog 'thumbsticks' offer a grip that is a little less firm than that of the Sony controllers. This, coupled with the increase in overall size means you will have to concentrate for a bit before you acclimatize. I wouldn't call them slippery, but this is probably the only thing with which I wasn't comfortable. It uses a single D-pad control instead of four buttons, response and control seem faster, and very rarely, there is a slight signal bounce.

Logitech has chosen to avoid exotic features and produce a controller that is more ergonomic. In doing so, they have produced a true next generation controller that is a pleasure to use. And the cables running across the floor won't be missed either. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic controller., February 8, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I did some research before going cordless, and everywhere I looked the reviews said this is the best of the bunch. The reviews were right.

The response is as quick and steady as my stock PS2 controllers, and the vibration is much stronger. Not once have I lost connection with the base unit while playing a game. And after heavy playing for over a month I still haven't had to replace the batteries.

But beware: small-handed players should avoid this unit because it is much larger and heavier than the stock PS2 dual-shocks. The L2 and R2 buttons are especially tough to reach unless you have long fingers. I always thought the PS2 dual-shocks were a little small, though, and the Logitech cordless feels perfect in my hands.

My only complaint is one that has been mentioned by others, and that is the slippery analog sticks. After you've played awhile and your hands get sweaty it can be hard to get to keep your thumbs on them. A little tape or stick-em solves the problem nicely, however.

Now that I've used the Logitech I couldn't switch back to the stock PS2 controllers. This is a great controller, period, and the wireless feature just makes it that much better.

Logitech Customer Service note: After playing with my controller for a month or so the square button started sticking in the down position occasionaly. I called Logitech and they shipped me a new one immediately, at no cost to me! After that I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Controller- Best PS2 Purchase I've made, July 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I did a lot of research before buying this controller and I have to say, that this was the best Playstation 2 purchase I've made in since buying my Playstation 2 over a year ago. I don't have extremely large hands, but I always found the standard dual shock controllers to be small and my hand would get cramps after playing for a few hours. This controller is considerable bigger and heavier than the dual shock contoller, but I've found that it's more comfortable for me. I've owned this controller for about 2 months know and I haven't had any problems with the analog controllers being slippery (as other have reported). My couch is about 20 feet away from my Playstation 2 and the contoller works flawlessly at that distance and from any angle in my living room. I always keep the vibration function turned on and I've been averaging around 30 hours of gameplay before having to change the batteries (part of this could be because I've been using cheap generic batteries). My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that the vibration function doesn't feel quite as the same as the vibration on sony's dual shock controller.

If you need a wireless controller for the PS2, this is the one to get. I have my PS2 in a cabinet with the doors shut and this lets me play my games without having to open the doors to let the cord out. If you keep your PS2 in the living room you know how annoying the wires are, being dragged accross the room. This product gives me a chance to play without my puppy playing with the cord. If you are having these type of problems I would strongly recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars It has it's flaws, but it's still good..., December 30, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
When I first got this controller, the first thing I noticed was it's size. I thought it was going to be as much of a pain like the original X-Box controller would be. But, I put my hands around it like I would with the regular PS2 controller, and it felt fine... except the four AA batteries in the back weighed it down a bit. It did feel big, but not that big. It's a pain in the neck, though, to reach the 'start' and 'select' buttons. After a while of playing, I got used to it, and thought to myself 'Wow, this is pretty great! I don't have to worry about all my wires getting tangled up and pulling my PS2 off the shelf.' The bottons respond well, too, and there is no delay. I even did a test on how far the signal would go, so I ran down downstairs and into the basement, pressed 'start' to pause the game, ran back up to my room, and it worked.

Of course, for me, after a while of playing, my hands start to get sweaty. I was playing SOCOM: US Navy SEALs, and when I tried using the analog sticks, my thumbs were slipping like crazy. This is because the sticks are made of plastic with no rubber grip on them, like the regular PS2 controller. The L3 and R3 buttons (under the left and right analog sticks) are somewhat a little too sensitive. Sometimes, if I where to move one of the sticks left or right, I would accidentally push down on the L3 or R3 buttons. Also, another problem I had was the D-Pad. Since it's a big circle, rather than arrows or whatnot on the regular PS2 controller, I had a tendency to push, say, left rather than up, which got somewhat frustrating.

Another thing I'd like to bring up is the fact that it's wireless, and it requires batteries. One of the first things that comes to people's minds is 'Well, what if I'm in the middle of playing a game, and all of a sudden my batteries die?' Well, if you leave the vibration on on the controller, the batteries will last a good 50 hours. When they start to die out, the controller will still work, but it automatically turns off the vibration. I believe the lights will continuously flash telling you the batteries are almost dead.

Overall, this product does have it's flaws, but it is a solid product that is made to last. If you're the kind of gamer that likes to sit or lay down far from the television set or doesn't like having to untangle wires, this is a good buy. One more thing. When I bought this product, it had the official seal of the PlayStation logo on it. This pretty much means that it should work like any other regular PS2 controller, except for the fact that it's wireless.

4.0 out of 5 stars This device flat out works!, May 9, 2003
By
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
I got this as a birthday gift and couldn't be happier. I was a little skeptical about the range and effectiveness but find it works great under all conditions. My PS2 console is in an enclosed AV cabinet with wood on three sides and a glass door. I have zero problems with reception and have found the controller works from other rooms (not that anyone needs to do that). In short, range is not an issue. This controller is a bit heavy (the only reason I gave it less than 5 stars) but is well made and has great battery life. I like being able to sit anywhere I want when playing Medal of Honor and Gran Turismo 3. Since I'm more comfortable I can play longer.

I just picked up these PS2 cordless controllers and they work great. Tried them on several games. The only thing I noticed is when playing Tetris Worlds, I guess the D-Pad is very sensitive, you have to make sure you push right or left, EXACLTY or whatever you try to control block wise will drop fast...but other then that they work great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product., January 22, 2003

I bought this product to solve 2 problems:
1) My dog chewed up 3 of my DualShock2 controller wires.
2) Messy controller wires in the living room.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. Basically, install the batteries which are included then you are ready to go. I played few hours and found that responses were very good. I didn't notice any drop out in signal or delays. I can now lie comfortable in bed without all the wires or having to yell at my dog for getting near the wire. D-pad is very comfortable to use. I used the D-pad more than the analog stick.

There are some complaints. 1) As you can imagine from holding 4-AA batteries, this thing is big. If you have small hands, you may have hard time holding this comfortably. 2) Analog stick is very slippery. I am considering putting two-sided tape on it because my finger kept slipping off the stick. 3) Because of the size L&R buttons are hard to reach if you have small or medium sized hands. 4)Analog stick response is not as good as DualShock 2. That's common to all third party controllers for Playstation. It's much more sensitive. This may be due lack of grip on the stick.

Ergonomically, there are some problems but it's works well. It's the only real choice for wireless PS2 controller.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Buy for Gamers, December 2, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for PlayStation (Video Game)
My husband loves to play racing games. Unfortunately, he gets carried away at times and tends to move the corded controller about like a steering wheel, usually dragging the Playstation 2 around as well. He tends to do this on most games he plays! So I bought this controller for him so he could move around as much as he likes without damaging his precious Playstation 2. Initially, I thought that there may be some interference from other equipment (Xbox, Gamecube, DVD Player, etc) but was pleasantly suprised to find none and it doesnt seem to be eating up batteries either.
In short, if you dont mind a slightly heavier controller, this is a great buy for gamers who get carried away!

After trying two different brands of PS2 wireless controllers that DIDN'T work, we bought a Logitech for $10 more. It works perfectly, fits well in the hand and gets the job done. Life is too short to spend your time returning defective junk to the game store. Fork over the additional 10 bucks and get quality gear!
