3.0 out of 5 stars Flawless wireless function, but flaws as a controller, October 25, 2003
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox (Personal Computers)
In terms of its wireless functionality, the cordless controller is flawless. There is no lag or any other indication that you are not actually wired to the Xbox.

Unfortunately, that quality isn't matched by the controller itself. Although only a bit larger than the S Controller, the cordless controller is much heavier. This is in large part due to the four AA batteries it requires, but it becomes noticeable as you play for a while. For marathon gaming sessions, this is not the controller of choice.

The controller also has some functionality issues. The digital pad is imprecise; frequently you hit left and get left-up, for example. The analog sticks have a little drift in them, too, pulling toward the left even after you center them--this is not a terribly big deal unless you tend to actually release the stick (and the sticks on Microsoft's S Controller tend to pull up in my experience, so it's rather a wash there).

I got this controller so I wouldn't be sitting on the floor playing games and wouldn't have extension cords strung all the way to the couch. For that purpose, it's fine, even with its shortcomings. But the product leaves me with the nagging feeling that it could and should have been a lot better.

I previously owned the Lynx Mad Catz (3 different ones acutally). The problem with the Lynx model was the thumbstick controllers would lose accuracy after several months of use. For instance, I would push the thumbstick to the limit and the game would react is if the thumbstick was moved only a small amount from the center. One of my games has a controller callibration screen where you can see the signal being sent from the controller thumsticks. Using this screen I could see the Lynx controller was very inconistent. I've had my logitech controller for about 4 months and it is still working flawlessly. On my callibration screen, it is the most accurate controller compared to the Lynx and the Microsoft s. I was worried that the logitech thumbsticks would not be easy to use due to the shape. It turns out that the rubber used on the thumbsticks gives your thumb a good grip and there is no issue with the shape. The triggers are a little too sensitive. They will sometimes fire when they are touched accidentally.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect...Except For One Flaw, October 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox (Personal Computers)
This controller is great. It frees you from those messy,tangle-prone wires. The controller is similar to the Japanese Xbox controller (Controller S) except that it is a little wider, and heavier. The Left/Right triggers are a little harder to press,though...

I had one problem though.I play Xbox Live a lot,and you probably know that you use a communicator headset, which plugs into the controller. There is no expansion/memory card plug-in on the controller. It's on the wireless reciever,on your Xbox. This controller is perfect for offline play,but...You know.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great product - but lasts about 100 hours of gaming use, October 19, 2004
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox (Personal Computers)
I loved this item when I first got it. No problems of drifting as witnessed on other wireless controllers and battery life was great. Unfortunately, my controller started to detriorate as the gaming hours went on. First to go was the left analog rubber pad, it started to wear down where my thumb was on it until eventually it came off. I took the right analog pad's rubber off since I don't use that as much and put it on the left. That gave me about a further 50 hours of play. Then the same analog stick stopped turning left. Everything else worked, but I couldn't turn left or up/down left in any game. I eventually took it apart and played with the calibration until I managed to get it working again. Since then I've had to do it 3 times. I guess I may as well throw it away and get a new one. I won't be buying this particular Logitech contoller again though. Once for casual gamers or people who like to take things apart.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubber topped thumbsticks will wear out. No replacements!, April 14, 2004

I love these controllers, don't get me wrong. I would have given the controller a 5 star rating a couple months ago. Read on.

They are a little larger than the standard "S" controller, so they take some getting used to. Just like the "S" controllers, they become 2nd nature as you play more and more.

Button placement seems fine to me in all the games I've played.
I have experienced no lag times. Play is no different than being wired. For the high cost of these controllers, that was expected.
Battery life is better than expected. I believe they are rated at 50hrs per set of batteries, but we have found they go much longer. We use rechargeables which work well.

The only con that I can think of (and it's a big one) is that the thumbsticks have soft rubber tops that are a slip-on type, fitting snugly over the joysticks.

They have a good feel and provide a firm grip. But, as several people have noted in the Logitech discussion forums, and I have experienced personally, these rubber pads wear out. They simply start falling apart. They disintegrate.

My attempt at getting new pads through customer support were replied with "return the controller to the point of purchase" and if that's not an option "return them to Logitech". No good for me since I purchased online and now they're the only controllers I own.

Logitech does not offer replacement pads.
Why not!? I don't know. They slip on and off easily. Seems they should be able to sell replacements.

Our controllers were purchased about 3 months ago and get what I would call "medium usage".
With no replacement pads available, soon they will get "no usage".
For the high price of these controllers, I thought I would 1. Get a better product. 2. Get better customer service - ie: replaceable parts that are prone to wear.

I was extremely hesitant to buy this because of the negative reviews , in particular, the rubber grips on the analog sticks. After feeling these grips on my fingers, I can understand how they could wear out with heavy gameplay, but I usually play not more than an hour or two a day. I must say that for the price, if my grips wear out i'd be pissed as hell. The controller feels really good in my hands, it might be heavy for some but i didnt mind that at all. The only drawback I have noticed is the start and the back button are placed way out of reach, but during a game I hardly use them anyways, however the black and white button are much more reachable than in the other control, making it a lot easier to hit combos and special moves. The rubber grips on the analog sticks are very comfortable but they feel flimsy. There is no lag whatsoever , you would not be able to differentiate the difference between this controller and the standard one. Most people might find the price ($60 US or $90 Canadian) a real hindrance, but my place looks so much better without wires and chics really dig it. Overall, I'd recommend this controller to anyone, I am very satisfied so far. I would have given this 5 stars if the price were a bit better.

Amendment: ok, its now Jan 2005, about 4 months into owning this thing, the right analog stick for some reason keeps sliding down, which makes presicion aiming and special moves very difficult at the least...luckily i got a one year warranty (I paid a few extra at EB games for this) so they'll replace it with the newer model. My suggestion is that you dont get this online...get it from a store and purchase the extended warranty, trust me...it'll save you both time and money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm not as good as I thought!, April 27, 2003

Ok the controllers wireless functions are superb you really cant tell you are not wired to the console. Something to note if your a hardcore gamer though after only 4 weekends of play the left thumbstick has started to make a weird noise when it is pushed to the right, the stick actually feels really flimsy compared to the left one I was wary about it from the getgo. Another problem is the digital pad stinks if you push up you usually get a diagonal up not very good in a gameplay situation at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost pleased me a around, January 13, 2004
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox (Personal Computers)
Being a wireless radio controller i bought it as soon as i saw it.
in fact, so far i have three of them, all the features boasted certainly are done well by it. Except one thing which seems to be a recuring theme in the reviews. I too am having problems with the left thumbstick and judging by others insightful reasoning above it only seems logical what they said. i play mainly car games and its most annoying when i scrape a wall unwillingly due to the thumbstick not recentering right. Be warned!! the controller might have a mind of its own!!!

I got this as a xmas present and I have to say it is one very comfortable controller. Slightly larger and heavier than the controller S and yet more attractive the original controller that Microsoft originally designed. I have had this for a few hours and have experienced no major problems so far. Easy to grip and get the feel of you'll forget that you are even holding it even with the extra weigh from the batteries (which isn't really even that noticable). However the controller isnt without its flaws even though they are extremely minor for me at least they are

1.Start and back buttons are oddly placed that the top and slightly far apart from one another.

2.The memory card slot and expansion slot are now intergrated into the receiver (ok this one isn't really a flaw for me at least but it might be for some people.

Logitech have outdone themselves and created a comfortable well designed cordless controller. Yes this is on the expensive side but I see it as complete freedom from wires that can get tangled and knotted. This is recommedned to anyone who might be thinking about investing in a wireless controller its money well spent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Logitech is missing the boat, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox (Personal Computers)
Run do not walk away from the Logitech counter. When the rubber pads wore off my game pad I was willing to pay for replacement parts. Their 800 number sales line was delighted to tell me to call their toll call help line and sit on hold for 20 minutes. According to Logitech these parts are not available for replacement regardless of wether or not you wish to pay for them. This is a terrible example of customer service. Logitech has enough brand recognition apparently that it does not need new customers. I personally will never buy another Logitech product. Companies who refuse to support their products will not get my business.
