2.0 out of 5 stars Uncharacteristically Poor Product from Logitech, December 14, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 300 (Personal Computers)
I purchased this keyboard/mouse combo because of the price and the brand. I have always had good experiences with Logitech, so I thought that the negative reviews were just flukes. Unfortunately, there does appear to be a problem with this product. First, I could not get it to work when using the USB connection I don't know why, but I tried everything I could think of and it never worked. Using the PS2 connections, it eventually started working.

Unlike the other wireless products I own, the placement of the receiver makes a huge difference in functionality. The receiver is very prone to interference, so it must stay several inches away from the monitor and CPU case. Even worse, the wireless range is very short. As I am writing this review, I must keep the keyboard about 8" away from the receiver in order for it to work. Any further distance, and it does not function at all.

Finally, the mouse, while exhibiting fewer problems than the keyboard, is still prone to "jumping" and "freezing" (sometimes the pointer jumps erratically, other times it gets stuck in once place).

I am disappointed with this product, and will be returning it. I expected more from Logitech.

3.0 out of 5 stars Annoying!, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 300 (Personal Computers)
I don't know what happened with this particular item but I have nothing but problems with the mouse! The keyboard works great, I have never has to use the connect button, or reset for it either - but the mouse is another story. I am always having to click the connect button! Everytime I go to use the computer, connect, or reset has become part of the process! I thought maybe it is just the batteries I use, so I tried rechargebale ones, and ones meant to last longer, and the more traditional ones too - problem still exist! I gave up finally put the mouse away - still use the keyboard. The quick access buttons are great, took some getting use to because I was always use to using the mouse to do everything. Overall I would said it is worth the money!

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Keyboard ... Heavy Ho Mouse!!!, April 29, 2005
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 300 (Personal Computers)
I received my LX300 Wireless Desktop yesterday. The moment I opened the covers, I realized how light the whole product felt. I was happy. The keyboard is excellent. It's light, and wears a nice professional looking black color. There are so many useful pre-programmed buttons, which launches commonly used programs like Outlook, Word, Media Player, browser. To top it, there are 4 extra buttons which you can program to open your own choice of applications. Since I am using notepad for practically, all my text related activities, the first button went to Notepad.exe without a thought!! Oh man, how much I love this keyboard!! And all these niceties without the clutter of wires dangling around from the back of my laptop. I have tested the keyboard as far as 15 feet away and it WORKS!! It's only limited by my vision that I cannot understand a single line of text from 15 feet away .... (well, can't blame the keyboard by stretch of imagination).

Now the mouse: In short, an obese spoilsport.

Nowhere near it's talented lean looking brother (keyboard). The moment you touch the mouse, you feel like moving a heavy pebble beside a riverside!!! Man, if this thing ever falls on my head, I'd surely develop cracks on my cranium!! Blame the two heavy AA batteries for this. It ought to be AAAs.

The mouse is also, not very accurate. All of a sudden and out of the blue, the pointer wanders away on its own sweet trail. There is a slight noticeable lag too. You cannot rely on this mouse to do any accurate stuff like removing red eye in Adobe Photoshop. Today morning, I was surprised when I was moving the mouse southwards on the pad, and the pointer was actually moving westwards on the screen!!

Maybe I will stick to my old wired USB mouse by Microsoft for now.

In brief, a good purchase, if you can live with the fat mouse.
The keyboard is a gem.

From 5 stars down to 3 stars, thanks to the mouse.

UPDATE: FOR MAC USERS
---------------------------
Beware, Mac users.

Although the specs say its "Designed for XP", it still works with a Mac, nonetheless.
But if you are thinking to use it with a Mac, be prepared for a frustrating experience.
Occasionally, Mac OS X will fail to "recognize" the wireless unit and you have to set up the whole thing again. When it is connected, the lag of the mouse is very noticeable. And the keyboard is also not spared. This lag can be really frustrating, since 99.99% of your time you are using either one of the two or both. The colorful spinning ball will greet you everytime you comeback to your Mac after a break. All the features like scrolling, program keys work, but you wont have the "smooth" feeling using them.

Out of this disgusting computing experience, I just disconnected the whole Logitech unit from my Mac minutes back and connected the matching white Apple keyboard and mouse (USB, wired). This all-black logitech wireless combo does not even look good with an all-white Mac desktop!!! :-)

So, Mac users, buy something Mac compatible which is clearly mentioned in the specs. Logitech has other wireless comBos that are designed for a Mac.

But NOT THIS one, DEFINITELY.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PURCHASE.
MAY YOUR HARD-EARNED BUCKS FIND THE TRUE VALUE FOR MONEY.
