4.0 out of 5 stars Not that bad.
Despite what David Hutchison said, I have had no problem with the size of the keys on this keyboard. I am writing this review on it right now. It is missing a few features that stopped me short of giving it 5 stars, though.

I bought this keyboard & mouse set for work on the Black Friday sales. I mainly bought it because I had limited mouse mobility at work. This set is good for the price, but I found that I can't use shortcut keys on the keyboard unless I stop moving the mouse. So I need to make sure I let go of the mouse to make sure it's not moving, and that's when I can use...

Despite what David Hutchison said, I have had no problem with the size of the keys on this keyboard. I am writing this review on it right now. It is missing a few features that stopped me short of giving it 5 stars, though.

First, there is no key set to launch a web browser. There's an eMail key (heck, it has a calculator key!), but no internet key. This logic behind leaving a web key out really defys me. So, I had to remap the Powerpoint key (which I'd never use) to launch Firefox.

Second, the home/end/del key cluster is oddly shaped. So, I'm having to get used to that. On the plus side, the Delete key is given a double size key (like Enter on the number pad).

Third, there are no lights for caps lock or num lock. A notice can appear on the screen to let you know when the key is pressed but otherwise, you have no indication of whether these two are on or not.

Fourth, the mouse is, I suppose, ergonomically shaped. It feels odd in my hand. I'm used to a standard shape mouse so it may just be me.

I do have a couple pros.

This keyboard has keys for just about everything. Whether you want to launch AIM, access your music folder, print a document, run a search or pause your music, there's a key for you. All the keys are remappable as well and there are four open keys (F9-F12).

A personal favorite feature, the media player controls work with iTunes.

The action on the keys is not quick, but not heavy either.

If I had a smaller monitor, the side-scrolling wheel on the mouse would be nice, too.

I'm not sure I'd pay $80 for it, but $50-60 is about right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes about a month to get used to, but perfect afterwards, October 4, 2005

The keyboard is probably the same as any other wireless/nonwireless keyboard out there, but for this price, you can't complain. The Home/End/Delete/... keys take only about a day to get used to. When I was doing a software developing internship (programming (typing) 8+ hours a day), the Home/End/Delete/... buttons come in very handy and you would hate to use the older layout (of the Home/End/Delete/... buttons) of the older keyboards again.

The mouse is very annoying for the first month. It's because for this mouse, you have to use it with your fingertips and not let your palm rest on the mouse. Very fast and accurate after getting used to. (Less wrist movement, more fingertip movement (which is more accurate)).

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent combo, September 26, 2005

This is a nicely built keyboard with very good tactile feedback on the keys. I came off of a split keyboard, so I was worried that I would dislike it, but surprisingly it's been pretty good, so far. I like the low-profile design a lot.

The Home/End/etc keys different design takes a lot of getting used to, but once I did, I really like it (their positions actually makes sense, and double-sized delete is pretty nice).

Wireless response is great from all over my room. I think that I might notice a lag between the pressing of the key and the appearance of it on the screen, but I don't type fast enough to be distracting or annoying.

I don't use the mouse because I have an MX1000 already, so I can't comment on it.

I must say that Logitech continues to create very quality computer peripherals. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable keyboard - Worth the buy!, February 20, 2005
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 500 (Personal Computers)
I dont know what is David Hutchison is complaining about the keyboard size. To be realistic anything bigger than this keyboard keys is an old type computer and i dont know how you could fit it to keyboard trays. For me size of the keys are perfect. One bad thing about the keyboard is the Caps Lock and Function lock indicators are not on the keyboard but instead on the IR Receiver station. And hence mouse dont have a docking station for recharging. Quite acceptable due to lower series compared to LX 700. Overall keyboard is very nicely build and as always superb 0 degrees tilt. This set is worth buying at $30.00. I'll recommend this to typical computer users.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice keyboard with a TON of functions, January 11, 2006

i bought this combo mainly because i needed a wireless mouse. The mouse is very good and precise, however i notice that when i'm sometimes playing online games, the mouse has a tendency to hold down on it's own or just suddenly lock up for a brief second. What i do like about it, is the application switch button between the primary and secondary buttons, it's customizable so you can use it as any shortcut with ease.

The main selling point of this combo however is the keyboard. It's comfy and all the shortcut keys make life really easy. I love the fact that you can customize every key so that's a major plus. On the other hand though, because there are a ton of shortcuts it may take some time to actually remember them all. i really like the media controls, previous keyboards i've had they seem to only work with Windows Media Player, however i've customized it so that i can use it for Winamp so it fast and effient.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little more quality control?, March 4, 2006
By
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 500 (Personal Computers)
Ultimately, I'm inclined to like this keyboard. It feels good and seems well designed, though it has so many 'special function' and multifunction keys on it that one tends to suffer a bit of information overload in trying to remember them all and what they're supposed to do. The little 'iNav' panel with the secondary scrolling wheel and the 'homepage/internet' key is a neat touch, but I still tend to forget that it's there most of the time.

But Logitech's quality control seems a bit iffy in my sample. The mouse had a weak spring under the left mouse button and while it usually worked, during intense photoshop use and lots of double clicking, it would frequently fail to return to position for the second click. Annoying... I didn't care for the retailer's 15% restocking fee even for exchanges, so I took the mouse apart and tinkered with it, with apparent success (so far).

The keyboard-- again a case of 'works fine...most of the time.) I'm sitting at a desk with the receiver located less than two feet away from the keyboard in line of sight. At random intervals, a particular key will temporarily stop working for no apparent reason. So far it's been the 'r', the 'l', the '/' and the '.' keys. I'm typing merrily along and suddenly notice something is missing. I can hit the key -repeatedly- with no response. Sometimes pressing the 'connect' button on the underside of the keyboard *seems* like it might help. In any case, eventually the key starts responding again with no hint as to why it stopped.

So far I can deal with these things, but I'm wondering if I'm going to have to send it back to Logitech for warranty service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product!, February 7, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 500 (Personal Computers)
I bought this product four months ago and haven't had a single bad problem since.
I am an avid PC gamer, and I haven't had any interference problems with interference using the keyboard and the mouse at the same time. Many other keyboard/mouse combos have reportedly had problems with that.
I haven't had to change the keyboard battery since I got it, but the mouse batteries run out about once a month. I would reccommend buying rechargeable AA's (2 for just the mouse, 4 for both keyboard and mouse).
It is very comfortable to use and can easily be positioned to anywhere on your desk, lap, coffee table, wherever!
Every once in awhile while using the mouse, the cursor moves off in a funny (but unwanted) direction. This is a problem with nearly all optical mice and can be fixed by getting an optical mousepad.
The included software is great and very customizeable. There are many custom buttons and the play/rewind/fast forward/stop buttons all work great with all the programs I've tested.

Overall, a great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cordless keyboard LX500, February 6, 2009
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 500 (Personal Computers)
I had worried about mouse response time as well as battery lasting time in placing an order on this item.
But quite satisfied with both on my worries.
Greater keyboard with mouse than what I have ever used.
I don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, January 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 500 (Personal Computers)
This is a good combo. The keyboard has a nice soft feel and the keys are not too springy. The mouse is standard and can be a lefty if needed.
I use the extra buttons alot (volume up/down/, calulator, webcam)

My only complaints are
1) Keyboard is a bit bulky (this is probably a pro to many people
2) Wish it had Num Lock and Caps Lock LEDs on the keyboard rather than the reciever
3) The mouse should have an on/off switch. Only way to turn it off is to remove the batteries. A pain when traveling with it but...this isnt exactly meant for travel.

If it starts acting crazy, it probably just means the batteries are low
