5.0 out of 5 stars another great product from logitech, October 18, 2002
By D. Miyamoto "D. Miyamoto" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this package to replace an old trackball mouse. I didn't really need the keyboard, but decided on the combo anyway; I was pleasantly surprised at how convenient the enhanced keyboard is! The mouse works well (as expected) and the color of both keyboard and mouse looks really sharp (black with silver accents).

KEYBOARD:

pros:
enhanced buttons are great (ex: jog dial to control volume, scroll wheel to scroll up and down when browsing webpages (like the scroll wheel on the mouse)); the keys have a soft feel to them so typing is more comfortable than on a conventional keyboard (quieter too); flat design is nice when typing with the keyboard in your lap; no cords! - I find myself typing in bed and in more relaxing positions more.

cons:
uses 2 AA batteries (although I haven't needed to replace them yet and I've been using it for about a month now); software (apparently they haven't worked out all the kinks in their software (I'm running WinXP Pro), so every now and then the enhanced buttons don't work (it's not that big of a deal - all the normal keyboard keys still work when this happens)).

MOUSE:

pros:
nice shape, fits in your hand nicely (if you're right handed) - it's the same shape as the logitech cordless optical mouse; optical sensor works well and allows you to use the mouse easily on many surfaces (including your bed); scroll wheel makes browsing webpages easier: just roll the wheel up or down; a third button (on the left side - for the thumb) can be programmed to do several things (ex: close your current program, go back to the previous webpage, etc.)

cons:
only really comfortable for the right hand; optical sensor won't work on "highly reflective surfaces" (apparently the finish on my desk is too shiny so the mouse doesn't track reliably on it), so you may have to use a mousepad, requires batteries (same deal as with the keyboard); can get lost (if you're disorganized and lose stuff around your desk, you might have to spend time now searching for your mouse as well)

3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome keyboard! Don't expect much from the mouse..., January 13, 2003
By "slystad810" (Warren, MI United States) - See all my reviews
Let me first say that I love being cordless. I don't think I will ever go back to a corded keyboard/mouse. The keyboard is awesome. I give it ****1/2/*****.The best feature is definately the media controls. It makes it much more convenient to change songs and control the system volume. I don't find myself using the keys on the top left and right hand sides of the keyboard (f-lock, email, webcam, iTouch, etc.), but maybe I just need to get used to them being there.

The mouse is a whole different story. I really wanted to like it, but I can't. I am very frustrated by it. One of the things that really turned me on about it was not having to use a mousepad. Well, my desk has wood grain and if I attempt to use the mouse on it, the cursor jumps and skips around. So I have to use a mousepad, or an unsightly piece of paper. Second, for me, the ergonomics are bad. I have a small/medium hand, and I get cramps after using the mouse for more that 30 minutes. Also, the scroll wheel does not work in games. There is absolutely no comparison to my original Dell Logitech optical mouse. The tracking was 10 times better on any surface. I give the mouse */*****.

The software definately needs some polishing. When using any of the volume/media controls, the text on the lower portion of the screen becomes distorted. This can be defeated by turning the on screen key effects off, but then you have no visual indication of the volume level. Also there is no way to program the buttons to do different things in different applications. For instance, there is no way to make the side button go back in Internet Explorer and make it double click everywhere else. I give the software **/*****. I expected better from Logitech.

Because the mouse is so bad, I am looking at spending another $70 on the MX700 which looks much better. There are many other people who were satisfied with the mouse, though, so you should probably try before you buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bye Bye Cords!, January 8, 2003
By Scott Patlin (Colorado Springs, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this product after moving and having trouble getting my mouse and keyboard to reach from the computer to where I wanted them. Not only is that problem solved, but I find this product surprisingly effective and easy to use. I've noticed the following:

1 - Setup was easy. It took more time to get out of the box than to get working.

2 - The reciever transmitter works fine even from within my desk. It's seperated from the mouse and keyboard by a bunch of wood, and no problems.

3 - Works fine with games -- I can't detect any delay between hitting a key or moving the mouse and getting a response.

4 - Nice programable buttons on the mouse and keyboard, and easy to use software to customize those keys. (The mouse is a three button mouse, plus the wheel. The third button is at the thumb.)
