Apple MacBook and the V270,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
I recently purchased a MacBook from Amazon, and after using the trackpad for awhile, I knew I wanted to get a mouse for the MacBook. I searched around and came up with the Logitech V-270.
It works great and has good bluetooth sensitivity. I was able to control the cursor from more than 10 feet away from the computer. I like the size and the finish of the device. A little pricey, but it's worth it if I don't have to use the trackpad. BTW, I also installed Windows XP Pro on the MacBook and the Logitech V-270 also works on the Windows partition of the hard drive.

Sleepy mouse,

This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
I bought this mouse to use with my Dell Inspiron E1705 with integrated bluetooth. The computer recognized the mouse right away, however I could not install the software included with the mouse. The good: on/off buttom, long battery life, comfortable design. The bad: As pointed out by other reviewers, the device 'goes to sleep' way too often. You have to jiggle and wait for the mouse to be activated almost constantly. This becomes quite annoying when you are working. I ended up returning it because I could not stand it.
--------- Note added on 4/13/2006 After returning the mouse I contacted Logitech and asked if there was a way to disable the stand-by mode. Here is what they had to say (I haven't tried since I no longer have the mouse): Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Pointing Devices. I understand that the Logitech V270 mouse goes to sleep mode too often. Please note that the mouse will go to sleep mode if it is not used for few minutes to save the battery life. If you move the mouse or press the click button of the mouse, then it will come up from the sleep mode and then work as normal. However, if you would like to disable the mouse entering the stand-by mode, then refer to the following steps: a. Right click on My computer and select Properties. b. Click on Hardware Tab. c. Select Device Manager. d. Click the + sign next to Mice and other pointing device. e. Right click on the mouse you are using and properties. f. Click on Power Management Tab. g. Enable Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. h. Click OK.

PowerBook G4 and the V270,

This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
The Logitech V270 has turned out to be the perfect mouse solution for me to use with the Bluetooth receiver built in to my Mac 17" PowerBook G4. I installed the V270 with Apple's Bluetooth software in less that two minutes and it has worked perfectly for me for two days of heavy computer use. If it goes to sleep from non-use, a flick of the wrist will instantly awaken it and off I go. I love it.
I have been looking for a reliable Bluetooth mouse to use with my PowerBook for well over two years. I bought a Bluetake Bluetooth mouse in February of 2004 but had to return it. Even after Apple's spport people helped me download the latest and greatest Bluetooth software, the Bluetake mouse would go into sleep mode and then would not work again until it was reinstalled -- not good. For reasons that are obvious I returned the Bluetake, for which I had paid nearly $70 for credit. I did not buy another Bluetooth mouse until I decided to give the V270 a try. The online reviews of every other Bluetooth mouse were far too negative for me to be willing to take a chance on. But then I found the V270, for less than $40, and saw many enthusiastic reviews written by other Apple laptop owners whose machines include a built in Bluetooth receiver. I agree with them and then some. I could not have asked for more from this mouse. Highly recommended!

A Must Have for Bluetooth Notebooks,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
I would like to start off this review by pointing out the purpose of this mouse. It is designed to be a cost effective solution for a transeiver-less [meaning no silly USB devices to plug in to use the mouse] optical bluetooth mouse. As with any bluetooth device, there may be an issue in communication with some bluetooth devices. The best way to fix this is to talk with the manufacturer of the notebook or transceiver and see about an update in software, firmware, or hardware.
The first thing you will more than likely notice when holding this mouse is the way it fits your hand. It's not obsurdly small like some other notebook mice and it is no where near big. I've read where some reviews think the mouse is "too tall" to fit in their notebook cases. I personally find that may be true for the Mac notebook solutions but most other notebooks it will not be an issue. I own a Sony VAIO SZ-280P and the mouse is of the same thickness. It's designed to be confortable, so this means you need something to hold onto which it delivers that beautifully. The setup on my notebook [which actually uses a Toshiba Bluetooth module] was fast and easy. Once it was setup with the bluetooth manager [which took all of 2 minutes] I can now turn on and off the mouse at any point and the notebook will detect it automatically within about 4-5 seconds [this may vary due to the notebook's refresh rate (how often the computer looks for devices)of the bluetooth manager]. Some reviews have noted that the mouse sometimes needs a second to respond. This second delay is the mouse 'waking up' from a soft sleep. Which nullfies the comment from another review stating that this device needs an 'auto off' function. It has a soft sleep mode which allows it to conserve power, the Red LED stays on so that it can see if you are trying to use the mouse and then 'wake' it back up. This results in an always ready to use state, but incorperates an extremely energy efficient sleep mode that allows you to forget to turn this mouse off for days without killing the battery. I myself have left it on for days in my notebook bag and still have PLENTY of battery life. I have had this device for about 5 months and am still using the batteries that came in the device. I use the mouse maybe 2-3 hours in a normal day with many peaks of 5-8 hours. The great thing that goes unmentioned, if you find yourself with dead batteries and only one spare AA battery left, it will function with just ONE of the two AA Batteries in the mouse. I found this extremely smart for those JUST IN CASE situations when you don't have two batteries to complete the circuit. The mouse use is also very pleasent. I love the weight of the mouse myself [different for each person], as well as the sensativity, and overall functionality [yes forward and back buttons would be nice, but you can always switch to keyboard shortcuts]. I've not had the issue of the battery cover coming off at all except for a really bad fall or two. Never in use or storage. This mouse overall is GREAT. It's light, sturdy [I've dropped it several times], and efficient. Recommended? - YES [HIGHLY]

Simple sophistication, and quality too,

I have a few devices that are bluetooth compatible (printer, phone, mic/earpiece) and being someone who loathes cables, bluetooth mouse is the perfect solution, avoiding the use of another USB port for a RF antenna.
There aren't many bluetooth mice on the market and I had my worries initially, but after 6 months of excellent service, I have to give Logitech 5 stars for this mouse. It has a good design - solidly built, good shape (for my hand anyway) and looks like a quality piece of kit which it is. 6 months of daily use and it still looks as new! Range and sensitivity are also good. Perhaps a little less sensitive than wired mice but that's the price you pay for wirelessness. It certainly is not bad and the convenience is well worth it. The off button is a nice touch which really saves down on battery. I've only had to change batteries once (2xAA). There really isn't much I can criticise about this mouse! Though if you are looking for multi-direction scrolling and all that, then this is not the mouse for you - it only has two buttons and the wheel, full stop. Also, I use it with my ThinkPad T41, and have no problems with touchpad or touchpoint or driver, but maybe I'm just lucky!

Do not buy this mouse if you own a dell laptop,
By
This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
The mouse works pretty well but unfortunately logitech's software doesn't install on a dell with a Toshiba bluetooth device (almost all dell laptops). The problem is that if you can't install their software you can't adjust the mouse. You can't reprogram buttons and you can't adjust your sensitivity independent of your touch pad. Let that sink in. If you adjust the sensitivity the touch pad sensitivity changes as well. Right now my touch pad is set right, but the mouse is way too sensitive.
Strike number two and three are that logitech's support has been pretty poor in addressing this and their attitude is "tough luck that's the way the product works." This is an expensive mouse and I'm very unimpressed. don

I do not have the connection issues that some of the reviewers have. I use this mouse with my Thinkpad Z60T and it works fine. The mouse feels good - not too big, not too small. The carrying case is a nice touch. I especially like being able to set the function of the scroll wheel (when pressed) through the SetPoint software.

Mouse is not supported on Dell internal Bluetooth,

Mouse worked fine for two months on a Dell Inspiron 6000, then suddenly could not be detected by the laptop anymore. Called Logitech tech support, was told this mouse has conflicts with Dell's Toshiba Bluetooth stack (used in Dell Bluetooth laptops) and will quit working after a while.
So if you want to ues this with Dell's internal Bluetooth it will be a [...] shoot.

Great Mouse!,

This review is from: Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse- Charcoal (Personal Computers)
I had read about bluetooth mice that have a delay or shut off when not being used, and I have been very pleasantly surprised with the immedidate-on response and precise control of this little mouse. The wheel is smooth and precise also. I wanted a mouse that was portable, but not too small or large. I think that Logitech hit it just right for me, being large enough for my big hands, but not too large to be difficult to carry. It comes with a nice zippered sleeve, and with an ON-OFF switch, so that you know it is off when you are carrying it. I haven't had it long enough to know about battery life, but I don't anticipate any problems. Installation on my Thinkpad X24 with the Ultraport Bluetooth device took about an hour, but the problem was not with the Mouse, but with the Ultraport device that in my opinion is not well supported.

Loses connection all the time,
By

Generally lovely mouse but periodically (about once every 5 min.) loses connection for perhaps 10 seconds. Jiggling it about seems to bring it back to life but this is not really acceptable. It's going back!
