3.0 out of 5 stars USB DONGLE falls off, so battery goes flat quickly
This mouse is a joy to use. It tracks well and responds quicly. Much better than the 'mouse touchpad'

The usb dongle clips into the base to switch it off. This is fine if you are not travelling with it. On several occasions, I have had the mouse in the bottom of my laptop bag and the usb dongle has come off. This has resulted in the battery going flat...

I purchased this mouse to bypass the "Scratch Pad" on my Toshiba laptop. Those pads ar ok if you don't have a mouse but leave a lot to be desired. The only problem I had was getting the thing out of the packaging. The plastic packaging requires either a stiff drink or a lot of strength and patients to get into. When you install a battery in the mouse and plug the USB transmitter in a USB port the mouse will be available for use almost immediately. However, to be able to use the mouse fully, you must download a large file from the Logitech website and install their software to get the mouse to perform correctly. This is pretty much a must do! Once the software has been installed the mouse will do a great job. I am thinking about buying a second one for my desktop PC. I have owned several Logitech products and have found them to be dependable and long lasting. This one is a very good buy. The only minor issue for this mouse that may or may not be a problem for you is the mouse's range. It needs to be very close to the transmitter. My laptop has USB ports on both sides and in the back. I have found that the best place to have the transmitter located is on the same side of the laptop that the mouse is to be used on. The second best place is with the transmitter located on the rear of the laptop and the worst place is on the opposite side from where the mouse will be used. With the transmitter on the opposite side, the mouse is not dependable on MY machine. Before you purchase a cordless mouse consider where your USB ports are located relative to where you will be operating the mouse. There range is fairly limited. If this is not a problem with your PC, this mouse is an excellent performer once the software has been downloaded and installed. The software is free and the website is user friendly. One other item about this mouse. When you install this mouse it does not stop you from using the "Scratch Pad" Both will work at the same time. The software gives you options on using one or both. I selected both and they both work well and at the same time.

This is a great little wireless USB mouse. Although it's featured as a mini, I have one each for my laptop AND desktop systems - one PC and one Mac - and it works great with both. Nice response, no delay, and the battery lasts for several months. I'm a huge fan of the scroll wheel; I really miss it when I have to use a non-scroll mouse. I highly recommend this one if you're looking for performance at a value price.

TIP. If buying this mouse, get a small bag to put it into so that the dongle does not come off OR get a rubber band to wrap around the mouse and the dongle.

If I need to buy a new mouse, then next time I will get one that has a usb dongle that docks INSIDE it.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Mini Optical Mouse (931396-0403) (Personal Computers)
I have recently received a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 gaming laptop, and so a mouse was really a necessity. I really wanted a portable wireless design in order to be able to bring it in my laptop carrier. At first, I received a VX Revolution logitech wireless laser mouse for laptops for Christmas along with my laptop, and I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, until my father dropped it on concrete coming out of my grandmother's house that same day. It was sparatic after that, the cursor jumping around my laptop screen. I immediately thought that I would return it, but at the store I realized that if it could not survive the 4-5 feet drop out of my dad's hands, that it was not worth my shiny new $80.00 staples gift card all over again. I saw this on sale, looked it up on amazon, and saw that the rating was even higher than the VX! I brought it home that weekend, and tested it for a couple weeks, and played many games with it by now. I find it's performance **almost** as good as the laser, with very little difference in performance, thanks to the updated version with High-Definition optical. I also in comparison, enjoy the ratcheting scroll wheel instead of the free-spinning variation on the VX. The only gripe that I have with this mouse is that the ergonomics are less than perfect, even with my small hands. This is a minor problem now though, but I expect it to become a larger concern as I grow more. Speaking of growing, I expect this mouse to last me well into adulthood, as it has a solid feel even with only one battery. I have already have dropped it once (on hardwood) with no ill effect, and nothing seems to be wrong. By far, the best feature of this mouse is the price. On sale for $20.00, I now have $60.00 jingling in my pocket, along with a good, reliable, compact, wireless mouse.

Physically I like every thing about the mouse, feels great, small, receiver snaps to the mouse when not in use and conserves power (turns it off when snapped in).

With the downloaded software, I like the left/right extra 2 buttons effect of the wheel, I use it to scroll left/right on spreadsheets a lot. I find that pressing the wheel sometimes takes two tries, as it sometimes rolls instead of acting like a middle mouse button.

Only glitch is that on 3 occasions I had to reinstall the sofware. Once after xp updated itself, and twice it would stop showing the first tab where you configure the mouse. It would only show the tab with help/contact info. But just doing a reinstall (so keep the file handy) works, w/o needing to uninstall first.

I wish it had a way to add a qualifier - like control down while using the middle button (the wheel) so I could both program that for auto-scroll and zoom.

I have no difficulty with where I place the mouse vs. receiver, and I was considering getting another for a friend but wondered about interference when hooked to two machines close to one another (say my laptop and my friend's as we work together).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse, December 3, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Mini Optical Mouse (931396-0403) (Personal Computers)
This mouse has worked flawlessly for me for 6+ months. Compact, but fits my big hand nicely. Works on most any surface. I don't even use a mouse pad anymore. Bedsheets, dining room table, my leg, etc. Works fine on all. Haven't had to change the batteries once. In other words, it's very energy efficient. The signal strength is very strong. I can use the mouse at any angle, and from a distance that even makes it hard to read my 15.4" computer screen. Seems ruggedly built. I treat it well, but I have a feeling it could handle some fairly rough treatment and still work just fine. I simply can't find any faults with the thing. If you need a reliable, compact, wireless, optical mouse, I don't think you could go wrong by purchasing this particular unit.

I have read some of the negative reviews and I don't know if there is a computer interface problem or if some people got lemons. Mine is perfect. I bought my 1st one 2 years ago and made the mistake of leaving the dongle in my laptop as I transported it in my car to other locations and it got bent and the casing of the dongle came off, but I could slip it back on. Eventually after repeated bendings, etc it bent in half. Since I purchased the new one, I have been removing the dongle when I move the computer. I like the size. I use it on my couch mostly. I had another wireless mouse--much more expensive--that needed a table to work and this bigger mouse was not nearly as responsive as this little, less expensive mouse. This has a good range--I'd say about 20 feet. I use a rechargeable battery and find that I need to recharge about once a month. The only negative is the dongle does fall off the inset in the back of the mouse when I move it. I don't even try to snap it in the back. I just make sure that I know where I put both pieces when I travel.

I bought this product specifically for my 5 1/2 year old grandson as it is too tough for him to manipulate the full size mouse. When I got it, I did have a bit of trouble getting the software installed but most likely that was me. Once configured, I can switch back and forth or even have both hooked up and working at once so there were no conflicts between it and my regular Microsoft wireless optical mouse. The really amazing thing about this mini mouse is it's superior ability to work without a mouse pad on surfaces like my desk or the kitchen table. My Microsoft full size and the same on my wife's computor, neither one will work w/o the mouse pad as the pointer simply doesn't move or it moves roughly because the optics don't 'see' the table or desk surface very well.

As far as my using the mini... I don't find it a good fit. I'm 6'2" with seemingly normal sized hands and between the mini and full size, I prefer the full size. The mini is as it should be... it is small and though I can use it fine it takes a while to get used to it. If I ever traveled with my laptop it would be awesome as with the mouse's size and the tiny USB transmitter, it is so much less to haul. Battery life seems good and I'm using it with 2500 mAhr AA Duracell rechargebles as with all my other AA stuff anymore.

To summarize, it works great and especially for small hands.
