This mouse is very compact and easy to install and use. The one thing that I have found wrong with this sometimes they respond and behave in a wierd way. It is like some signal from who knows where is grabbing the mouse and moving it on it's own accord. I have two of these and have purchased one for my sister and have found that they are inconsistent. The one negative is a technical issue. An error message is generated when the laptop tries to hibernate. Fortunately, there is a simple workaround. Disable "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" option under the Device Manager.

4.0 out of 5 stars Must have for notebooks, May 3, 2004

Highly recommended for laptops. Even though it has a "connect" button, never had to use it. Just plug and play installation. No need to download/install drivers. Used it with Win 2000 and Win XP.
Pros ::

* Solid responsive mouse
* Just like any other mouse
* Cordless so no tangled wires around you
* Optical so can be used on ( just about ) any surface
* Small USB receiver
* Cute carrying case with separate pouch for receiver
* Used it, without any issues, with my wireless internet connection
* Easy to replace batteries

Cons ::

* Might be small for a person with large hands &/or long fingers
* Just 2 button mouse
* Not aware of any way to program the "buttons" ( for "left handed" persons )
* Slightly heavier ( because of batteries ) compared to a general optical mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nifty!, January 9, 2005

This mouse is a must-have for anyone who uses a laptop and doesn't like using the touchpad.

The mouse is smaller than the desktop version, but it's performance and comfort rivals a full size wireless mouse. It has an on/off switch on the underside that saves battery life, and it comes with a black travel case that stows easily for travel.

I highly recommend this mouse.

The mouse works fine. No CD needed. So if you can get it for less with no CD take it.

One of mine is perfect however the other one is sporadic and my sisters sometimes has a mind of its own. I will be looking forward to a new series of these as I find this to be too inconsistent with it's performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more nubby laptop mouse!, December 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Black) (Personal Computers)
This mouse is fantastic. It tracks on anything including pants legs and sweater sleeves. It's nice to be able to kick back in a chair and use an arm or leg as a mousepad for web surfing. Need pinpoint accuracy? Simply use a traditional surface like a table or notebook. The batteries last forever! I use this exclusively for 2-6 hours per day and the batteries (2 AA) last for 4-6 weeks! Amazing. The only drawback is that the two mouse buttons "click" when pressed. A silent button would be better for use in a library. I'll buy another Logitech mouse should anything ever happen to this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Petite and sweet, June 15, 2005

This review is from: Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Black) (Personal Computers)
I ordered this to replace another "cordless" mouse that came with an RF unit that was as big as a mouse and had a cord that was as long as a regular mouse cord. Not exactly practical for a laptop user looking for less clutter! This one cost a bit more and took a few days longer to arrive, but it is sweet. My HP laptop recognized it immediately, and while the size is a bit smaller, it isn't uncomfortable, and it works very well. Response is at least as good as the corded Logitech mouse it is replacing. 4 stars only because I just got it. I'm sure it will rate 5 as time goes on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Having trouble from the start, December 29, 2008

I just received my mouse in the mail and immediately tried to hook it up. I chose a refurbished model which means the only things included were the mouse, the disk, the pouch and the USB port. There were no directions, or any paperwork for that matter, which is why it took me several minutes to realize why the mouse wouldn't turn on... it had no batteries. It also took me a minute to even figure out how to open the mouse (on the top, at the end of the silver part there is a textured spot that you push down and pull back).

Once I installed the disk there were directions in Notepad form that were supposed to apply to Windows XP but they didn't match up with what I was getting on my screen. For instance it said to go to the Start menu, click on something and then click on Control Panel, but the 2nd step should be skipped since you can access the Control Panel directly from the Start menu. So I ended up guessing my way through everything that didn't install itself and if I got stuck I would re-read the directions and see if any of what I was looking at resembled anything in the directions.

Then nothing happened for what seemed like forever (this was before the battery thing), so I checked the end of the directions and it said you'll need to restart your computer, which I tried to do, but it took another 5 minutes before the software finished installing. (I have cable internet at over 10MBPS and I have the top of the line 17" widescreen laptop that was available 2 years ago (fastest processor, etc.) so I have no idea why it took so long for the software to finish installing itself.) So it finally went through, and then, after restarting the computer, I was prompted to do more installing. I just hope that once I get the batteries I can just plug-and-go... hopefully.

I'll edit this after getting the mouse to work and I have a chance to use it for a week or so, but I figured you would want to know about my issues with just the installing part of it. And in case you're wondering about my 3-star rating, that is based on the assumption that I will enjoy the use of the mouse itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Product is Great, Amazon is not!, July 27, 2005
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Black) (Personal Computers)
Logitech has done well with this wireless mouse. It works flawlessly at distances, in my experience, upto 3 feet. The batteries last upward of 6 weeks while I seldomly remember to "turn off" the mouse when away from the computer for extended periods.

So the product is great(...)
