I bought this mouse to replace my MS optical wired mouse. I'm currently using Vista. The LX7 is a very small mouse, the length is ok but the width is very narrow. If you are used to a wider standard mouse then this is not one for you. It forces your fingers to curl up for a better grip. I would classify it as an in between laptop/desktop mouse.

I had this mouse for 1.5 years and absolutely loved it: it was perfect in my hand, the signal was constant, it was very precise and the batteries lasted forever. However, after many months the left button began to fail, becoming harder and harder to click -- something that bothered me especially when double-clicking. Probably the spring or some other moving part went bad; I read in another mouse review that these things happen, that mice only last so much. But it got so bad that I gave up on it. I then bought a Logitech MX610. Another great mouse but it feels bulkier in my hand, not as comfortable. Interestingly enough, I called Logitech here in Brazil the other day (I was looking for a wireless keyboard) and mentioned the LX7's problem. The guy told me that if I sent him the receipt, Logitech would replace it, since it has a 5-year warranty. Unfortunately, after such a long time I couldn't locate the document, but I'll probably be getting a new LX7 and keeping the receipt in a safe place!

December 2007: Despite the lack of a receipt, Logitech is replacing this mouse. They asked me to send it in so they could analyse it. I did. They came back to me saying that the mouse had a physical problem and that they would send me a new one. I was stunned! I know that even good products can just go bad, so I wasn't giving this too much importance, but Logitech's customer service blew me away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slim, sleek, more than a mini but less than a..., January 14, 2006

... large desktop mouse or those over-sized game mice that look like they were built on steroids. I bought this mouse for my new notebook. The mouse is slimmer than the pictures can show and with the rubber sides, it does have a very comfortable natural feel. The size fits my hand comfortably as well - I don't have to adjust to those all too small mini notebook mice. I like the 4-way navigation wheel (up, down, right, left) as well as the built-in zoom feature.

The forward and back page buttons are on the top which suits me just fine - I always hated having the buttons on the sides where I would often accidentally press them while browsing.

Installation could not be easier. Just insert the batteries into the mouse, plug the mini-wireless receiver into a USB port and you are in business. I like the fact that the kit also included a USB extendor although I don't think I will need it as the signal seems strong - mouse performance was reliable and accurate (1100 dpi). It responded as well or better than a corded mouse but without the dangling wire.

For full mouse function of the extra buttons, install the software (check the Logitech website for the latest version). I am also very happy that the software is mouse-pad aware so it did not create any conflicts - both the LX7 and mouse-pad work fine together.

Definitely would recommend the LX7 mouse without hesitation.

Update 2/12/06 - f.y.i.: the small battery indicator on the top is intended to light up only when your battery is about ready to run out of juice, otherwise you barely know it is there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant for the price..., March 1, 2007

I happen to use the computer a decent amount, and I was get tired of using the cheap one-buttoned mouse that came with my eMac a horribly long 3 years ago. The wire kept getting caught onto the corner of my desk or some other annoying position, and I'm convinced it's haunted and alive.

So I asked someone for a good company to search for a wireless mouse that isn't going to skip around (That's all I heard about wireless mouses, "they skip around all of the time, dont get one!" so I was reluctant to buy one). I bought this one for 17 bucks refurbished, and I was shocked.
This doesn't skip at all, the little usb connector is tiny, and I think it has even smoother movement than my mouse with a wire... It also doesn't go to sleep randomly while you're trying to do something. It's got a nice amount of buttons, but not so much that you need a long list of each button's function.
The only complaints I have is that it's not VERY customizable with my Mac, such as using Exposé with the buttons, etc. (Edit-I would like to add that I got a Mac update and it now does work with Exposé fine.) But it has a good amount of features - such as one touch search - and I'm lucky it even lets me change the function of each button at all, anyway... It also makes it seem as if you can change each button's function in EACH different application, but that doesn't work either.

But that's fine, because any better of a mouse and I would have to pay 50 dollars more. This is well worth the price, and well worth your time. It's also better looking than in ANY advertised pictures I've seen. Buy it, if you're a nerd or if you're someone who rarely goes on but doesn't like their hand butchered every time they do.

It's comfortable, portable, and CHEAP yay

5.0 out of 5 stars the BEST mouse, March 19, 2007

I just purchased this mouse over the weekend at another retailer but should've gone through Amazon as it was cheaper... Anyway, I am MOST impressed by this mouse. It is very accurate, so much so I began to see what other surfaces I could move it on and still accurately move around on screen: my chest w/ sweater, my pant leg, and my other desk chair didn't hinder the mouse in any way! I would highly recommend this mouse for laptop users who travel and won't necessarily have a desktop to work on. The LX7 is also very comfortable to hold - I have smaller hands and the weight is solid but not too heavy once you put in the two AA batteries (supplied). The tapered shape and height of the back of the mouse support the hand well. The scroll wheel is responsive and I like the side to side zoom feature too. It is not a super loud clicker/grinder type like the microsoft mice.

Tracking is very good - photoshop/Illustrator and CAD users take note. Extra second function buttons on top of the mouse can be programmed for quick launch settings.

Finish is very good - this is a top-quality product. Logitech does it right!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I originally bought this mouse for my work laptop, thinking it was smaller than it actually is. It's smaller than the mouse that was already provided, but bigger than a laptop mouse. That's my mistake for not reading the specs. Not having the red laser saves on power, and the range has been good so far. I love the left/right scrolling function, perfect for big Excel sheets. The back and forward buttons are nice too, although I don't use them as much. The provided software allows you to customize buttons for specific software, and you can change the default functions as well. Definitely a great buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a decent cordless mouse, August 4, 2006
Overall, I've found this mouse to be a joy to use. I have two of the LX7 mice--one at home and one at work.

Pros:

- Very responsive. Wouldn't know it's a cordless except that it has no annoying wires attached to it. I use it for office apps, software development, web browsing, etc. I do not use it for gaming or detail graphics work, so I cannot comment on how well it works for those.

- Overall finish is superb. Feels good to the touch. Dark blue looks best in my opinion.

- Battery life is superb. First battery change was at about 6 months with daily use. I use standard alkaline AA. I like that it doesn't have a built in battery. This means batteries are user serviceable.

- Left and right buttons and wheel have the right amount of feedback. I rarely use the middle wheel button, but I do agree with others that it requires too much pressure.

Issues I have:

- It is a little small for large hands. Now and then I find my fingers feeling fatigue. It hasn't bothered me enough to stop using it. I use a computer 10-14 hours per day.

- The signal doesn't transmit very far as seen by erratic and poor response from the mouse. I had to use the included extension to place the receiver on my desk where it's not obstructed. Works fine like this.

- Does not work well with USB KVM switches (I've tried I-O Gear and Belkin so far). I personally believe this to be more of a limitation in the USB KVM switches.

- One of the two mice has an annoying squeak when you press the left button. I'm going to send it in for repairs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but the wakeup time bugs me, May 9, 2006
By
This review is from: Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse- Dark Silver (Personal Computers)
I was very pleased with this mouse at first. For the price, it seems like an amazing deal. I like the elegant and comfortable design, the useful number of customizable buttons, and the invisible optics (no more red lights shining out from under my mouse). As I would expect from Logitech, the motion of the mouse is smooth and precise. The left/right part of the four-way scrolling doesn't seem to work nicely or in very many applications, but I don't really care too much about it.

However, one thing really gets me: the time it takes the mouse to wake up. After several seconds of inactivity, the mouse goes to sleep in order to conserve battery power, then turns back on when it's moved. The time it takes to wake up, which is probably about 1/10 to 1/5 of a second, so has come to bother me a lot. That may not seem like much, but I use my mouse off and on, and it's pretty irritating when my cursor doesn't move right when I want it to.

If it weren't for that issue, I'd be extremely satisfied with this mouse. Sadly, I'm afraid I'll be returning mine in hopes of finding one that will wake up faster. If you don't think the wakeup time will bother you, I'd say you have little to lose with this mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Wireless Mouse, January 12, 2007
I really like this mouse. It was very easy to install and start using within minutes. It is very comfortable in the hand. A little larger than my wired Dell mouse but not as huge as the wireless full size microsoft mice. It does not feel that much heavier than my wired mouse, it is lighter than the wireless Logitech I had 5+ years ago. Having the page back and forward buttons near the wheel insted of on the side is nice. The buttons can be changed to something else if desired. It does have some gaming features, but I don't know how great they are because I don't play any games that might need a more specialized mouse.

I bought the LX7 to use with my laptop. It's a great alternative to the trackpad. Adds the functionality of the scroll wheel, plus the back/foward buttons are a nice tool when web-browsing...they worked fine on install in IE, and also work in Firefox with a simple tweak of the settings.

Portability is also a plus. The mouse is small and portable, and slips right into my laptop's carry case, along with the USB mini-transmitter. No cords or large transmitters to worry about...takes just a matter of seconds to pull everything out of the bag and get to work.

I'd highly recommend this mouse for desktop or laptop use.
