3.0 out of 5 stars Passable
This is my first wireless mouse and I've used it for 40-50 hours/week for over a month. It works OK. The pointer is at times a little jumpy and at other times not very responsive. However for me in my situation it's worth dealing with that in order to be wire free. I have used it for more than a month without having to change the batteries.

1) It's made by Logitech, who make the best mice on the market. They always have current device drivers and most of the time you can just plug the mouse in to whatever system you are installing it on and have it work. They are the reference standard for my money.
2) It's cordless. Doug Englebart is a genius, but corded mice can sometimes be a pain in the.... You're always having to move the cord, or pick the mouse up and relocate it or, depending upon where your computer is you may not have enough cord. This is never a problem with the Logitech mice, the range is about six feet and the mouse will work if the transmitter is under a wooden desk.
3) It's optical. Optical mice are the only mice worth having. You don't have to worry about your mouse ball getting all gunked up or have a mouse pad to use the mouse. You never have that annoying behavior where the mouse ball isn't rotating properly, causing your cursor to skitter all over the screen. The sensitivity is fantastic.
In short you should buy one of these for every single one of your computers. Don't worry about conflicts though, the Logitech wireless system is smart enough to deal with having multiple cordless devices on the desktop.

I bought the Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse to avoid the problems of the mechanical ball and more so to avoid the "tail" of the cord that would always get entangled on my paper covered desk. I have used it for over 6 months and liked it so much that I bought another for my laptop as well. The design is very ergonomic, fitting the hand well. The button design and customization are excellent, especially the scroll wheel. I have found the battery life to be very reasonable and not at all a drain as some others have mentioned. The USB interface makes things a lot easier too. Only minor cribs: opening the battery compartment on the mouse is a bother (surely they could find a simpler way) and it would be nice if the mouse could alert you to a fading battery instead of you having to query the status. While you don't need a mousepad, it works a lot better if you are running it over a light colored surface (most desks are not!). And of course, sadly you cannot use it on an airplane in flight because of interference! But on the ground, this is one great mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value for Cordless Optical Mice, June 1, 2003

If you're looking for an inexpensive yet quality cordless optical mouse, this is your best bet.

I originally made the mistake of purchasing the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse Blue (around the same price as the Logitech model), which seemed like it would work better without a clear path between the mouse and receiver. It worked alright, but after hearing some horror stories about things going wrong after a couple of weeks, I exchanged it before the return policy expired.

The Logitech mouse is far superior. I noticed immediately how much smoother and precise it was. It also has a much better power management system -- instead of the light being on constantly, it blinks after not being used for a certain length of time. With the included software, it's easy to track how your batteries are doing before they start giving you problems. I've had no problems with communication between the mouse and receiver since I set it up; it works just like a corded mouse.

This is the best cordless mouse that I have ever used. I especially recommend this for college students with cluttered desktops; the lack of cord really makes it easy to move things around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pointing device I've ever used, June 14, 2002

I've used so many different kinds of pointing devices (mice and trackballs) I can't count them. I've finally found the perfect device, this Logitech cordless optical mouse. I actually have two of them, one for work and one for home. I also own the first Logitech cordless optical mouse that came out for right handers, but gave it to my wife when this one came out, since I am left handed. I have not at all experienced the problem a previous reviewer had in the mouse being unable to move the pointer quickly and can only assume he had a defective unit. I introduced this mouse at work a few weeks ago, and everyone who uses it realizes that they need one too, and I notice it popping up on people's desks everywhere. It is so convenient if you're left handed, because almost everyone is right-handed and they come over to show me something and can simply pick it up and move it to the other side without the cord interfering with the movement. I have positioned the radio receiver behind my monitor where you can't even see it! And of course optical is the only way to go: it is incredibly precise and smooth. A fresh pair of alkaline AA batteries lasted three months. I replaced them with a pair of lithiums and I expect them to last a year! Imagine that!

5.0 out of 5 stars to be used and abused..., March 3, 2005

I have had this mouse for more than 4 years and it has been dropped, hitted, and I have used and abused all its buttons. I haven't used this mouse in a gentle way, sometimes I'm on a rush at the office and a I don't have the time to treat nice the office stuff. Well, I have yet to see the minimal fail in the mouse, it keeps working exactly the same way as the first day I used. Also, if you are a left hand user it is great as it has a neutral shape. This mouse is deeply recommended and for its price it's really a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product. over a year old now., June 25, 2003

I have been using this mouse for over a year now, I have had a great experience with it, and am loving its mobility for the entire time. I am really rough with it too, I have a laptop backpack that I keep it in the front pocket of, and when you put it down, it lands right on the mouse. I have only two things I would change about it,(one of them is my fault) First is the battery door, I dropped the mouse and the battery door broke so I have to use it without one, (no problem but one of the batteries falls out occationally, no biggie) and the second one is that the receiver is not small like all of the mice you find for laptops now only having a small USB 'nub' this one has a 36" cord with a receiver just smaller than the mouse, not a huge deal to some one using it with a desktop computer, but someone who intends to use it with a laptop, be prepared.
I also read in someone's review that the battery life was short, FALSE I have only changed the batteries in it twice in the last year I have been using it. the last tiime was abobut a week ago. It tells you when the batteies are getting low, and you have about 15 hours more use before they will actually die.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Mouse that I have ever owned, April 15, 2003

I got this mouse after giving up on my 6 year old normal wheel mouse. I have been extremely impressed at the quality of this, and the battery life and so much more. If you are looking for the best mouse under <$$ go for this one.

For these reason:

1) Optical - Logitech invented the technology and it still is one of the most accurate mice out there.
2) Battery life - I get about 3 months out of 2 AA's. However, I use cheap batteries, and therefore my total year cost or the mouse is only about $.
3) Duarbilty - I have dropped this mouse on many occasions 4 feet onto a hard concrete floor, and it still is in perfect working condition

It's a great mouse!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mighty Mouse, July 21, 2004

This review is from: Logitech Cordless Optical Wheel Mouse (Personal Computers)
I had been shopping for a mouse to replace the cheapo one which came with my computer. I really wanted a cordless one, but was concerned that perhaps a cordless mouse would be subject to all kinds of problems and therefore not be nearly as accurate. But, based on the reviews here at Amazon, I was convinced to purchase the Logitech Cordless Optical Wheel Mouse. Thank you Amazon reviewers and thank you Logitech! This wonderful little piece of electronics is FAR MORE accurate and responsive than my old mouse. And no more constant tugging on the cord. It also clicks very quietly (my old mouse was loud enough to wake people up). A terrific mouse at a very reasonable price. Do not hesitate to buy this if you are looking for a new mouse.

Just one slight problem to mention ... during the software installation, the setup program asks you to click on your responses - which is, of course, strangely impossible since the new mouse is not working yet. Use the tab and enter keys instead.

I use a Microsoft optical cordless mouse at work so originally I planned to purchase the same brand for home use. Then I read the reviews for this Logitech mouse. I'm very glad I changed my mind. Logitech makes a fine product. Smooth movements, fast response, fits my hand well. I would highly recommend this for any one wanting an optical wireless mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars best mouse I've had yet, June 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech Cordless Optical Wheel Mouse (Personal Computers)
I was a little wary of a mouse that was so cheap, but I picked up mine over a year ago on sale at an office store after a little mouse-meets-wall explosion when my old mouse (a regular corded mouse with a ball) stopped working.

I would have gotten something more expensive, having learned that cheap electronics are their own punishment, but I had a project due and NO extra money, so I settled on this little guy. I am glad that I did - it has been the best mouse I've ever had. The one POSSIBLE problem is that you have to replace the batteries, but hey, until they can power mice with tiny little internal nuclear reactors, I'll deal with changing my batteries (which happens MAYBE every 3-4 months for me).

If you have some sort of deranged problem with changing batteries, or if you are willing to pay around a hundred bucks for a mouse, don't get this one. Otherwise, if you're just looking for something that will outperform your outdated old mouse for very few dollars, this is so worth it!
