Solid Bluetooth Keyboard for the Mac,
By
This review is from: Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac (Personal Computers)
I purchased this to replace the newer Apple keyboard. I was impressed with the build and extra features. However I think the integrated mouse is unnecessary and the device would be much better served with a dedicated number pad. The home, end, page up and page down keys do take a little while to get comfortable with. I'm not a fan of Logitech software and I set up the keyboard without having to install anything in OS X (though I did lose access to the custom function keys). I really liked the key action of the Apple keyboard and found the diNovo only slightly less enjoyable in that respect. Finally I absolutely love the audible feedback when the caps lock key is pressed. If you can get over the price, this is a very nice keyboard.
EDIT: In light of Logitech's newest diNovo keyboard, Logitech diNovo Mac Edition Keyboard, I feel I should adjust my review. Had I known that Logitech would release a diNovo Mac keyboard with a full numeric keypad I wouldn't have been as critical at the lack of said keypad on the diNovo Edge. After 4+ months of use with the Edge, I would still heartily recommend it.

Excellent keyboard for home theater Mac,

For those of you sitting on the couch while using your home theater Mac mini like me this is an excellent keyboard. The integrated touchdisc works well (vertical and horizontal scrolling is pretty cool once you get the hang of it) and is a must since using a trackball is cumbersome and a mouse is all but impossible from the couch. The touchdisc and the recharging base are main reasons I got this keyboard (manual says it will go for a month of "normal" use on one charge). Apple needs a keyboard with a multi-touch pad and charging station. Anway, the amber lighting when use the disc or pressing certain keys is nice but I wish the keyboard would be backlit. The keys are fine for home theater use (although as the other reviewer states the apple wireless keyboard feels slightly better). The programmable keys are very useful for macs like mine where you only run a small subset of apps. I really don't even need the apple remote anymore. The dedicated front row key is a nice extra as are the itunes media buttons. I found the Logitech control center to be fine and you need it for the buttons and to calibrate the touchdisc (which you will want to do). The lit audio slider is cool but since my mini is attached to the receiver using the optical-out it is of no use. The brightness keys don't seem to work on the mini either with my plasma but I never really use them anyway, it just gives me more keys to reassign. There is also a left mouse button key on the left side of the keyboard which allows you to move and scroll with the right hand and click with left which felt very natural to me (the mouse buttons under the tracking disc are kind of hard press when using the pad). I don't miss the numeric keypad since I never use one of those anyway. The only other criticisms I have are the on/off switch is a little difficult to access and move, there is no shut down computer button (there is a sleep button and you can create a simple applescript to shutdown the computer that you can then program a button for), and the shiny black surface of the keyboard shows every mark and fingerprint. So while not a perfect keyboard it is still very good for home theater use with the only major criticisms being lack of backlit keys and the price is a little steep.

Nearly flawless,

I purchased this keyboard after the "u" key went out on my Apple keyboard that shipped with my 20" aluminum iMac back in December of '07. This keyboard has, so far, been an excellent purchase. (I'm typing the review on it right now!) The keyboard has a MUCH better feel than the Apple keyboard, with much more room required to press a key, which adds to the comfort greatly. The touchpad is an interesting innovation, as well.
PROS: * Easy-to-use volume control * iTunes music control * Touchpad w/ horizontal and vertical scrolling capabilities * Very comfortable typing experience * All of the "mac" buttons (command, option, etc) * It's fully Bluetooth, so there's no dongle or anything necessary if your Mac has Bluetooth already (which almost all of them do!) CONS: * Touchpad is rather small * The black plexiglass really attracts fingerprints (it's not superbad, though) Overall, I certainly recommend this keyboard if you're looking for a comfortable wireless keyboard. It's a bit pricey; however, it's paying off quickly for me!

If you hate "tap to click" on your trackpad then buy something else,
By
This review is from: Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac (Personal Computers)
I just received the unit today, and setup was a breeze. The keyboard itself is great. The flaw lies in the TouchDisc trackpad. The TouchDisc ALWAYS interprets a slight tap on the pad as a left click on the mouse button. This "feature" is the first thing I turn off when I receive a new laptop, as I find myself constantly making clicks on links, buttons and menu options that I never intended to. Further investigation indicates that this "functionality" is hard-wired into the device. There is no way to turn it off via the configuration software, and no way that LogiTech can ever release a software patch to fix the problem, (this per their own support staff.) No one mentioned this in the Amazon reviews, and I only discovered it through the LogiTech discussion forum where MANY users have been complaining about the flaw more over a year. I wish I had known this before purchasing the unit, (and I will be returning it, of course.) If all you want is a keyboard, you'll be happy with this unit. But if you want a properly configurable trackpad, look elsewhere!

Works on all my bluetooth enabled stuff...,
This review is from: Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac (Personal Computers)
At first I thought this was too expensive for what it is. After using it for a month or so-- the price for this little keyboard is great. I originally intended to use it with my macbook and an external monitor...turns out it works great with the windows partition on my macbook as well as the mac side. I took a chance and tried it out with my PS3. Much to my surprise it works great with my PS3--it took no time at all to set up--on both the macbook and the PS3-- totally worth it.

I Love This Keyboard,

I hunted around for a wireless Bluetooth keyboard that would work and look great with my iMac and this is the keyboard. The most remarkable thing about the keyboard is how infrequently it needs recharging. I pop it into the recharger holder stand about every two weeks for less the four hours and it has never run out out of charge. The size, weight and balance is perfect for my lap and I can store it on the iMac's stand when not in use. The media features are great but I do miss the numeric keypad that could have been in that space. If you are in the market for a solid good looking Bluetooth keyboard, this is a perfect choice.

Best keyboard for Mac based media center,
By the evil cat (Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac (Personal Computers)
I have a mac mini as a media center in my living room. I used to use a logitech trackball and wireless keyboard to operate it. It was ok but the non-bluetooth device only have a range of 6-feet. Lots of times I have to lean forward towards the receiver to type or move the trackball otherwise it's out of range. I finally got tired of it and decide to give this a try since the mac mini already have built-in bluetooth. I have to say even with a hefty price tag like this, it's worth every penny of it. Here is why:
1) The range is excellent. Though I've never tried to test out it's maximum claimed range (30 feet), I've gone as far as 20+ feet (I have a big living room) and still works flawlessly. 2) For media center use, the trackpad completely eliminated the need for trackball/mouse. It feels very much like the trackpad on your laptop. I know many people hates trackpad, but you really don't do much with trackpad when using a media center. It sure beats having to have a extra trackball/mouse laying around. Also, there's an extra mouse click button on the left side of the keyboard so you can use two hand if you need to perform drag or select where it's hard to handle with one hand. 2.5) The scroll takes a little bit to get a hang of it, but once I got used to it, I think I'd prefer it over the scroll wheel. It scrolls both horizontally and vertically. 3) It's a native mac keyboard. No need to go reassign the key and stuff. All the mac keys are there. My mac mini is connected to my av receiver via optical, the volume control on the keyboard is no use for me. So I don't really know how well it works. But from the look of it, it ought to work pretty well. The charging station is powered off regular wall plug instead of USB, so you can charge it anywhere you like, not limited to only near the computer.

This is the third wireless keyboard I've used in the last six months and this is by far the best. The item description wasn't really clear about the trackpad but yes it is a circular trackpad on the right, with dual scrolling edges. The keyboard looks and feels great, and is perfect for my home theater setup (bluetooth paired to my Mac Mini which is hooked up to a tv). Other wireless keyboards have really tiny option/control buttons for some reason but this is a full-size keyboard which is fantastic. The touchpad lights up when you touch it and is pretty cool. The wireless 2.4ghz wireless keyboards I've used in the past have really odd connection problems while the logitech with bluetooth works perfectly, even from far away! I highly recommend this keyboard.

diNovo Edge ROCKS!,

Logitech 920-000924 DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac I ordered this from Amazon and it arrived quickly even with free standard shipping. This is the exact keyboard I needed to work with my new MacBook Pro. I've used Logitech for many years in the PC world and when I decided to try OS X, I figured I'd give this keyboard a try. The keys seem very much like my old favorite IBM ThinkPad; the spacing is perfect and the keypress has just the right feel. The very thin design, with the black and silver mix is a perfect match for the aluminum and glass laptop. I already love the TouchDisc, too. It is very handy to have that choice rather than use the mouse or reach up for the touchpad on my MacBook Pro. The other main feature is the one-touch access to most of the programs I use on a daily basis. Needless to say, I'm highly recommending this to anyone looking for a classy, efficient keyboard. I'm positive you won't be disappointed.

Much Better than Expected,
By Burt Reynolds "Burt" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac (Personal Computers)
Over the past four or five years, I've purchased six keyboards from varies makers--mostly Apple. Last year I decided to buy the new aluminum Apple keyboards (both the wired and wireless) and they were superb, much better than any previous keyboard. However, I found the keys too short for efficient typing; and, overall, the keyboards felt smaller, as if my hands were being pushed together in an uncomfortable distance from each other.
I waited a while to buy the DiNovo Edge. The price was too high when it first came out. Now that it's in a Mac version, I decided to try it. And, quite frankly, it's one of the best keyboards I've ever had. The little Star Trek controls on the right side are appealing, but nothing I couldn't live without. The physical keys on this keyboard is what makes this product better than all the rest. It just FEELS right. The keys are perfectly aligned; they are deep enough to get good resistance and feel when typing; they're quiet; and the keyboard itself is very responsive. Apple's wireless keyboard has some lagtime, but the Edge works perfectly. If there is some sort of lag, I can't notice it (however, it was quite noticeable with the Apple aluminum wireless keyboard). That being said, I'm very pleased to have purchased this product. It looks good--not as good as in the product photos, but good enough. I sincerely hope this will be my last keyboard purchase for a long time. But you never know what Logitech will throw at us next year...just the novelty of the new product might lure me. |
