4.0 out of 5 stars Feel like this deserves a better rap than it's getting
I've had this stick for a while now (a couple of years I guess); it's been excellent. Playing CFS3, Heroes of the Pacific for the most part. Hadn't played much for a while until recently, and now I come back to it it seems that it's no longer smooth (hence the missing star); this also makes it hard to keep it nicely centred. I guess it's just seizing up from not being...

I received this product for Christmas and was at first impressed, the overall make of the joystick is sturdy and ergonomic (though it wasn't really ergonomic for me, because I'm left-handed). Unfortunately, it was oversensitive, even when I went into Logitech's software to lower sensitivity.

I could have lived with the sensitivity, since there are several third-party programs that help with Logitech's sensitivity and calibration, like DXTweak2. The only problem was that whenever I rebooted my computer the settings wouldn't register on the stick upon next play. So basically I could get my settings perfect for the game I'm playing but then as soon as I shut down the computer the next day I'd have to figure out those settings again. It was just way too much of a hassle.

Fed up, I ended up returning it to Comp USA and traded it in for a Saitek Cyborg Evo, which is about $30 cheaper then this stick and handles much better.

I guess it's just seizing up from not being used enough ;-)

I can't begin to understand how some of the others here are saying there's not enough feedback - could be that they haven't got it set up right (feedback level is customisable), that Logitech have come up with the most variable manufacturing process in history, or that those complaining of this are insensitive brutes. Whatever, it's been perfect for me - until it's begun to get sticky as mentioned above. Still perfectly usable with force feedback turned off (or no power to the stick) though.

Seeing the poor reviews here has actually prompted me to do one for the first time, I've liked my stick that much :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars Great build quality but the stick is just too finicky, May 2, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick (Black/Grey) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this stick locally, as it was:

A) the only stick of the three local PC shops that had force feedback (1 of the shops didn't even carry joysticks anymore, best buy only had like 2-3 in shop and this is in the SF Bay Area)

B) felt the most comfortable and solid in build quality

I have read all the positive reviews of saitek products but the build quality of them seems very low to their price ratio so I wanted to avoid purchasing one. They just look and feel very cheap to the touch so I wanted to try something different.

I've owned the logitech stick for about a week now and will return it and try a Saitek Evo Force joystick. My main reasons are that there doesn't seem to be much support for the stick and that it's way too finicky in games. You will spend more time configuring the settings to the joystick than you will actually gaming. It's just way too sensitive and the center spring is not smooth enough so all movements are ridgid and feel as though you are fighting with plastic teeth (which you well are I guess) The logitech profile software that is pretty much essential in order to use this stick but also leaves a big footprint. Not really that important in the age of 2 gigs of memory and dual core cpus but I already have 4-5 other programs that must be run at all times in the background and would prefer not to have another. Especially when it leaves a 20+ meg footprint at times.

My last joystick was a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback pro that I owned about 5-6 years ago. I remember what a great joystick it was and it seems as though nothing has topped it since. My impression of the logitech joystick to my memory of the sidewinder is poor. After using the joystick for a week and finally at the end of my patience trying to calibrate it in Il-2 :FB I would rate it poorly.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT JOYSTICK FOR GREAT PRICE!, April 22, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick (Black/Grey) (Personal Computers)
Once again logitech has brought the best product that balances quility and price. I got this item last week and I was thrilled with the quility, looks, feel, and preformance of this joystick. I am right handed but working with the left hand with these isnt nearly as comfortable. Overall it is a great product however I think it should have more programmable buttons and more comfortable on the left hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great force feedback, great control, July 22, 2007

It totally controls the movement of the planes, pretty good sensitivity. Like the way it shakes when the plane is moving on the runway. Great product,!

3.0 out of 5 stars Well-made, but too sensitive, August 15, 2009
This review is from: Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick (Black/Grey) (Personal Computers)
A while back I finally had to dump my old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. Not because the stick itself was bad but because I no longer had a working game port. The current generation of Sidewinders are a pale memory of the older models so I decided to give Logitech a try.

The force feedback on this joystick is great. It really pulls you into the game and gives you a feel for the action. The buttons are well places and very responsive. The placement of the throttle is a godsend. So many companies put the throttle in an out of the way area but in sim games like MechWarrior you need instant access to the throttle.

The downside of this stick is its sensitivity. Though I have gotten used to it the way the stick reacts takes away a bit of the enjoyment in games. Many times I find myself turning off the force feedback so I have better control, but then what was the purpose of this purchase?

If you need the sensitivity, get this stick. However most people should look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Idiot Guide to Joysticks, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick (Black/Grey) (Personal Computers)
Simply Put, go get this.
It works Wonderfully, and its Programmable Keys make it invaluable if you are Flying.
I Fly Orbiter, Microsoft X, and Microsoft Combat Simulator III. Each game has its own fully programmable keys and triggers. Its awesome, and you cannot beat the price.
DON'T over think the wireless, your going to be close to your screen playing a sim anyway Not worth the loss of keys and cost. I have the Logitech wireless Joystick, but cannot land a FA-18 using it. need force feedback even though those planes are fly by wire...just a sim thing..
Good Luck, buy it. :) D

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent stick and works on apple, December 7, 2009
This review is from: Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick (Black/Grey) (Personal Computers)
I use this stick on my apple and it works well. I've read the complaints about drift, etc., but these can easily be solved by creating a deadzone in the middle of the stick. If you want to program this on an apple computer, you need to buy ControllerMate ($15), as Logitech does not provide programming software. It is well worth the buy as ControllerMate recognizes all the buttons and axes and you can map any key you like to them. This means you can use the stick for games like MW2, BF2, etc. I give it a 4-star because it has one less button on the head of the stick than the Cyborg Evo, which is what I benchmark it against.
