The previous G400 was a great mouse. It had a unique shape, great buttons, and a "perfect" sensor. What I mean by a perfect sensor is that it did not have any prediction or acceleration at normal speeds. Prediction is where the mouse decides it knows what you're trying to do, and changes your input to match. Go to MS paint and try to draw perfectly horizontal lines to see what I mean. If you can, then your mouse has prediction. Acceleration happens usually when you move a mouse quickly. For example, if you move some mice quickly across the mouse pad, and then slowly back to the other side, there will be a large difference in where your cursor ends up. The cursor moved faster than your hand when you sped up. But that did not happen on the G400, and it does not happen on the G400s.

Logitech realized that this quality made the G400 a fantastic mouse for FPS gaming, and they have given us this same great feature on the G400s. This is super valuable. It gives you a distinct edge while playing games against people using imperfect sensors. It is also to be noted that most professional gamers never use above 1000dpi. While laser sensors are more "flashy" and can do a lot more DPI than opticals, sadly, laser sensors have acceleration that cannot be disabled, making them inherently inferior for gaming. So as far as tracking quality goes, the G400s is spot on.

A few tweaks since the G400: The mouse now supports up to 4000 dpi instead of 3600 dpi. The buttons are slightly higher grade. These now are rated for 20 million actuations instead of 10 million. Not that I ever had a problem with wearing out the buttons on my old G400.

Things that did NOT change: The cord is still garbage. The G400 was notoriously bad because it would die if its cord was ever pulled on.

Verified Purchase
Until recently, I've never purchased a proper "gaming mouse". I always had the attitude that all mice are the same. I ended up buying this because the previous mouse I had started "mis-clicking" and "double clicking" at random.

I've been using this mouse for only 1 day, but I have to say, so far, it's pretty amazing.

PROS
- The wheel and buttons actually click and can't accidentally be triggered. The scroll wheel doesn't "float" like cheaper mice. Rolling it up and down has distinct clicks. Perfect for cycling weapons in FPS games.
- The buttons are very consistent. The same amount of pressure is required for any and all buttons. The side buttons, which I never used until this mouse, are also perfect. You don't have to press so hard that it throws your aim off.
- The size and shape is perfect. Of course, this depends on your hand size. My hands are average. I can rest my palm on the mouse and everything is in the perfect spot.
- NO OBNOXIOUS LIGHTS!!! My previous two mice had to be covered at night.

CONS
- None that I can think of. I'll update in the future if something wears out or unexpected happens.

I bought this mouse to replace an old Microsoft WMO 1.1 that I had used for the last 10+ years. The Microsoft mouse still worked, but as I got more into computer gaming again, I wanted something with more buttons and a more comfortable shape. The main problem I had with the Microsoft mouse was that it was a little small, and my fingers would hang off and rub against the mousepad. With the G400S, there is a little ridge on each side for you to put your thumb and your pinky, making it perfect for someone like me who gets annoyed by the feeling of a mousepad against their fingers constantly. The size is a little larger and more rounded than the Microsoft mouse, so it fits the shape of my hand and palm better. Keep in mind that it isn't intended to be an ambidextrous mouse, it's a right-handed mouse.

The adjustable DPI can be useful, but I just stick with 400dpi and call it good. Excellent tracking with no negative acceleration issues to be had. I used a GE Dual Scroll mouse for a while, and that one suffered from negative acceleration if you moved the mouse too quickly (the cursor would go haywire). This mouse has no acceleration or prediction, either, which is perfect for gaming and keeping your aim consistent.

I've heard complaints about the cable not being braided, but I actually prefer it this way. I bought a G500S along with the G400S to see which I liked better, and the braided cable of the G500S was too stiff and stuck out like a sore thumb on my desk.

The materials used appear to be high quality and have a nice feel. The anti-moisture coating works better than expected and keeps my hand from slipping off or feeling the need to wipe it off during intense gaming sessions. The rubberized coating on the sides also feels very comfortable.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This Logitech G400s is similar to the G400, with just a few changes to the mouse's look and feel. They both use the same scroll wheel and mouse shape, and the G400s even has the same non-braided cable as the G400. However the feel of the mouse itself is different.

The G400s implements both a smooth semi-gloss feel to the top, and a imitation rubber texture to the sides. The surface of the top is designed to keep your hand from sticking to it, even if your hand starts to get a bit warm or clammy. They call this their Hydrophobic coating. While the mouse works great for all grip types, (claw, finger-tip grip, etc) I find this feature especially nice since I have a palm grip when gaming. I'm able to adjust my grip easily, without my hand adhering to the surface at all. The rubber texture feel of the sides is nice, and as of yet I've had no problems with it peeling or wearing through.

This is a corded mouse, which tends to be what most gamers prefer. The cord is very long, and easily threads from my keyboard tray through the back of my desk and into the back of my tower, with plenty of cable to spare. It's not braided for reinforcement like many other gaming mice are, but the cord is fairly stiff, so it does seem to be tangle free.

There are 8 programmable buttons on the mouse, including the two forward and back buttons on the side, left, right and middle click buttons and the DPI increase, decrease and default buttons on the top. With the included Logitech software, you can program each button how you would like it. All the buttons and the scroll wheel have a good response to them. They're not overly sensitive so that you're accidentally clicking just from the wight of your finger, but it also doesn't take too much pressure to click the either.
