If something did not work correctly, it has a help button and it tries to fix the problem.
John
It is so easy to set up that I just plugged it into Logitech's setup software (that I used for the old remote) and it worked perfectly.

Now that I've finally gotten the Harmony 650 Remote programmed to work properly I really love it!

This is a really excellent product. The level of sophistication at its price point is compelling. I won't attempt a comprehensive feature review; others have done a good job of that. A couple of high points for me:

--Remote Assistant. If you start an activity and it fails to complete properly, the Help button brings up an interactive question set that pinpoints which portion of the activity failed, then the remote corrects it. In my experience this works flawlessly in correcting errors in activity launches.

--Remote database. This appears to be quite comprehensive; it had my Anthem 500 AVR, which is a relatively new product and far from mainstream in popularity.

--Ergonomics. Button placement is logical and uncluttered. Button responsiveness is just right. Backlighting is effective without being intrusive.

--IR learning. Easily learned everything I threw at it.

One last point I'll make, echoing a previous review: If you are tech-savvy and want the maximum programming flexibility with this remote, don't use the myHarmony site to set it up. Download the Harmony Remote software and use it instead. It's not quite as pretty as the myHarmony interface, but it has loads of additional features, such as the ability to append additional functions to the end of an activity.

I was confused by some of the negative reviews of this product, since I feel it is excellent. I think at least some of the negative comments arose from failure to fully explore the software for this remote in order to learn what it can do. For anyone who doesn't have an excessively complicated hardware setup, I think this would be hard to beat.

I have owned this remote for about 9 months. VERY PLEASED...but PLEASE READ

Use for :TV , DVR, Bluray(w/Netflix), soundbar

so basically its 4 items, each with various advanced features.

I had no issues with set-up.
I did have to do a customized button function for the DVR 'recorded shows' button, and I had to manually sync my sound bar following the pretty easy directions...but, let me just say it was easy for *me* , maybe a little too complex for say, my parents who are not gadget savvy. Or even my wife (hope she doesnt read this)

This remote CAN and WILL simplify your remote control experience, but it does require some level of geek savvy when it comes to programming and especially troubleshooting.
It helps GREATLY to UNDERSTAND how the remote operates.

example:
when you press DVD ON, understand everything that goes on in order for you to switch from TV watch mode to DVD watch.

The remote will, step by step, and in order, send a different signal to each component. Not simultaneously. Step by step.

You need to keep the remote *aiming* at your component(s) through the entire process..as it will..power on dvd....set input...etc. It could be as many as 4 successive steps with just 1 button being pressed...So, it could take about 10 LONG seconds (I'm used to it now)

You have to keep remote aiming properly during this time...So often I have seen people press the WATCH TV button and then put the remote down once the TV turn on...NOPE...thats asking for trouble...you SHOULD KEEP AIMING IT for about 10 long seconds....and hopefully all your components are roughly in the same direction of where u are aiming. For most people thats not an issue. But worth noting.

Verified Purchase
I received the Harmony 650 remote in a blister pack, which I initially started to open with scissors. On the back there is a perforated area that can easily be peeled back to remove the contents, so no scissors are required. I setup a MyHarmony account online and programmed the remote for my TV, Blu-ray player, cable box, and 7.1 surround receiver. The online programming is pretty straight forward.

The remote worked to turn on my TV and switch between activities, but failed to properly set the correct source (TV, HDMI1, HDMI2) after being turned off. I searched the internet and found a suggestion to increase the Power-On Delay for my Samsung TV from the 7.2sec default setting. I needed to use a 10sec. Power-On Delay setting to get the TV to turn on, wait for the delay, and then reliably set the correct source. I also set the Inter-Device Delay from its .5sec. default setting to 1.0sec. Logitech provides NO instructions online for making these changes. To change these two settings you need to manually hold down the `Help' button on the remote for five seconds and then select the device you want to change. The rest is pretty straight forward, but it took searching the Internet to even find out that I need to make these changes, so I am deducting ½ Star from my Amazon rating.

Next I created a Netflix activity for my Panasonic BDP-DMT220 Blu-ray player. On the first try it stopped at the `Internet' screen and did not properly accept the `Netflix' IR command. I went back into the online program selected `Customize this Activity' and then added a delay before the Netflix IR command, which required 5sec. This is probably a requirement for setup of functions with any Blu-ray player.
